View Full Version : News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted

News is now coming in that FlashForward is not being renewed for a second season. This series had a lot left to show us and if only a portion of what I think I uncovered was going to be used, the series had a fantastic story to tell. My advice to David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga is to steer clear of the networks as they are quite fond to eat their young. First Threshold at CBS and now FlashForward at ABC. Great concepts that were aborted before the true tale could be told. The cry from both shows was the same to the networks of "You don't understand what you are doing."

Just saw this when I went to search for recaps.
No 2nd season.

I just hope we will get some sort of an ending and are not left totally hanging as has been done too many times.

Network execs just don't get it......many are now not willing to invest in any series until they are sure it will continue.
......and the audience keeps shrinking.

edit*
We knew the hiatus would sink this series.
Why didn't the execs?

Here is a link about the cancellation of FF. (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/05/13/abc-cancels-romantically-challenged-scrubs-ted-flashforward/)

I am going to have to give up on the big 3 networks and stay with Fox and CW. Heck Vampire Diaries is doing worse than FF, but they are getting a second season. Geez, renew V, which has not got a snowballs chance in hades of delivering a good story and kill FF.

I watch V but do not see a deeply thought out mythology as I think FF has. FF was years in the making and the story tapestry was expertly thought out by the creators. I hope they are able to get out the word on what was planned because it would have been fun to see what is being currently woven (if I was anywhere close to it) to be explained. It was nothing short of brilliant and I say this knowing the series hasn't been perfect in its delivery. It was getting its running legs under it like any first season needs and with Lost completed those fans will drift off now.

We were seeing retrocausal time loops beginning to manifest and later become linked to each other into a large loop in history that would ultimately break out in a huge and wonderful reveal. All of that potential is lost now with the network decision to cancel. What a waste for most likely one of the best created stories that will now never be told. What they had planned with the Antikythera Mechanism would have been a major plot element and we never even got to see it develop. We only got a glimpse of the potential of a cool fictional use of a real and extremely interesting artifact.

I wonder how many wonderful shows never would have made it with the standards in place today. I know some "classic" shows had rough starts. The network really doomed FF from the start with 2 things:
1. 8:00 EST start (7:00 Central). That was too early of a start for a show like this. I can't be the only mom trying to get children to sleep, dishes in the dishwasher, and laundry folded at the 8:00 hour. The 8:00 spot had historically been used for "family hour" where more grown up shows, like FF would have a 9:00 or even a 10:00 start time.

2. Hiatus, for both FF and V (although I am not a big fan of V) should never have been started, then taken off the air for 2 months. It would have been better to start them both in March.

FF was really the ONLY network show that I watched, and that is no exaggeration. When FF wasn't on, my television would be on the Travel Channel, Discovery, or the History Channel. After this stunt, the networks won't get me back again.

I do hope FF can be picked up (by someone other than HBO as we don't have that). It just seems a waste all the thought that went in to the show. I am actually quite sad and I feel a bit betrayed. This show was never designed to be a "pilot" type of show. Either you commit to the series or don't. We all went into this show (the fans, the people behind FF and the network) knowing this was a long term commitment. I really feel the network broke some handshake deal we all made with each other - I give you my time and watch your ads, you give me FF. I kept up my end of the deal and the network didn't.

Well said. I too am done with the "big" (in their own minds only) networks.

And the problem with renewal, after the network has already expressed it's disappointment - people feel the impending doom and don't want to become attached to something that could be snatched away from them once again. ABC completely missed the boat here and the summer replacements look abysmal.

Yes it does. They must still be drunk.

Fans may want to hold off on eulogizing Ghost and Christinefor a day or two, however. There’s an outside chance that ABC (which co-owns GW and has long coveted Christine) may swoop in and rescue one or both.

Good grief. I thought some of those shows were doing well for CBS. They don't even get a good-bye.

So apparently FF is going to end in a cliffhanger. This is good news if the show gets picked back up somewhere down the line, but kind of bad if it doesn't since it sort of leaves us wanting for closure. This seems to not jibe with the Jack Davenport quote I read about the show earlier... perhaps they wrap up some threads but there are other cliffhangers?

Interesting, Beema. I

If it's ending in a cliff hanger, I think it is kind of obvious what's going to happen.

Tonight's the night and I guess we'll be getting all we are getting unless the show is picked up by another station......and that would necessitate different actors in at least some roles because I'm sure most are off and running to try and get new jobs and by now, have succeeded..

Enjoy the Finale.

You as well. I'll be hanging around and working things out here, like Ben in Lost, lol.

Happen on the show. My guess (which I'm sure a lot of people here would agree with) the cliffhanger relates to this new black out. Maybe it's 12/21/2012.

It reminds me of what happen to Surface a few years back. It like FF had a pretty good plot, good characters and it was a good romp, i.e. it was a story what answered questions as it went along, plus it actually went somewhere.

FF is in the same boat. Too bad it's ending and not even a chance for a short mini-series to finish it off. Now that's sad

There was a show a few years ago called Traveler (ABC again, I think) that ran for the summer and was hoping to be picked up for the fall season, but wasn't. Very suspenseful sort of show, so its creators did a blog on TV Guide's site to outline (after they were sure it wasn't going to be picked up) what their story arc would have been and their overall ideas for the show. It was very interesting and provided some closure for fans. That was my first experience with show writers/creators who interacted with their fans and chatted with them. Maybe the FF people would consider doing something similar. Or perhaps they will just include it in the DVD.

Well, whatever they end up doing, they'll have my undivided attention. The show had its bumps and dry spots but overall had a very compelling attraction for me and fresh story so I'll keep on the watch for anything. It's been a great season here on RPR and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be going away any time soon. I've still got a puzzle to solve, lol.

What a bummer... I really really hoped they would change their rating-driven minds. Seems that TV-show history has come to an end... for now. 24, Lost and FF. I really don't know what to watch now.

Breaking Bad, Burn Notice...

although neither of those really satisfy the obsessive, theorizing, delving-in-to-details type drive that FF did.
Breaking Bad is a stellar show, but pretty cut and dry in the way the story unfolds.

There are rumors of Alias getting a reboot. I'm betting that's going to gel and the network will try to use that to keep the Lost crowd from flitting away.

Here's an article to think about: http://www.remotepatrolled.com/2010/04/flash-in-the-pan/. It says why FlashForward didn't work.

Some of this news has already been covered somewhere else here but here is a recap of where our FlashForward actors are off to next:

Joseph Fiennes has landed a lead role in a Starz' ten-part series retelling of Camelot. He will play Merlin, with Eva Green playing Morgana. This looks like fun.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Camelot-Fienne...en-1019201.aspx (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Camelot-Fiennes-Green-1019201.aspx)

Christine Woods has a lead part in Perfect Couples on NBC. The buddytv link has a clip. Although I like Christine's work (I loved her in FF) I don't think I'll be watching a sit-com. Sorry Christine although I wish you great success with it.

Zachary Knighton has been cast as the lead actor in ABC's Happy Endings, alongside Elisha Cuthbert.

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/flash-forw...h-fi-37018.aspx (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/flash-forward/flashforward-roundup-joseph-fi-37018.aspx)

Ryan Wynott (Dylan Simcoe) landed at NBC's new show "The Cape", alongside Jennifer Ferrin (Life on Mars) and Summer Glau ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Firefly").

That's why it's so hard to get a series back, friends. Once ABC did "the deed" to us fans, the actors went onwards with their lives. FlashForward did have a positive impact on us, and for that I'm very glad to have watched it.
