View Full Version : Sawyer had a change of heart.... Or did he??
dpayne82 05-19-2010, 01:23 AM He seemed to have a moment with Jack, when he realized it might have been his fault for their deaths.
However towards the end of the episode, he had a sinister look on his face. One I haven't seen in a long while. Did anyone else catch this?
He even had another moment with the God complex line, like he was truly changing, but that look he gave afterwards.... It is still perplexing me...
Devera 05-19-2010, 01:46 AM Do you have a screencap of this look? I didn't notice anyone at the fire looking anything but contemplative and maybe a bit frustrated.
Facehead 05-19-2010, 01:50 AM Somehow I took it that Sawyer now forgives Jack for Juliet's death.

I'll look, but it wasn't during that scene, it was while Jack and Jacob were talking, and Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley were with eachother.
xanderthemighty 05-19-2010, 04:03 AM I remember thinking it looked like Sawyer might have it out for Jack. He was dooing this Ron from Goblet of Fire (after Harry got called to be in the tournament) look... but I don't think there'd be any reason for Sayer to hate on Jack anymore unless it had to do with leaving the island which I think Jack wouldn't care about... but yeah, I noticed it. Could be he was gooing for deep contemplation and could only muster an irked expression.

-calypso- 05-19-2010, 06:31 AM No, i think Sawyer finally understand that when you make decisions you can be wrong and some people can die....he made the same mistake jack did so he's more comprehensive now even if he can't help but critisizing jack...he perfectly knows it's not fair! lol
EllsBells1960 05-19-2010, 06:37 AM I think he just looks really serious in that screencap, not evil.
I think that facial expression was just a look. I think he's had a change or heart. But it could be that he's debating whether he should stay behind has well. And I think the whole shot of it being focused on him and Kate being out of focus, I think it was just to transition into the flash-sideways scene. There might not even be any significance of that look because of that.
dpayne82 05-19-2010, 12:02 PM The picture does not do it justice. Rewatch the episode and you will see it. it's not just a look, but you can see it in his eyes. He is pondering something, and I don't think it is, "I can't wait to congratulate Dural Sack Jack!!"
witchypoo 05-19-2010, 01:00 PM My thought when seeing that was that it was part of the long con to find a protector. It seemed like Jacob's "Mother" really appointed MIB as the protector. She did her incantations and ceremonial drinking for another reason. Twins. Together they can protect by distracting the humans with conflict. Cerebrus was a security system. (It seems to me it is protecting the light source/meteorite under the crater. ) It probably took Jacob a while to figure he had been conned but he still needed to get out of his job as protector and leader of the others. So like his mother he was patient in finding his replacement. He has seen Jack come full circle, meanwhile Sawyer is back to his darkness with so many losses and the guilt. He could end up replacing Locke as the smoke monster/ security system.
evanesco75 05-19-2010, 01:05 PM I don't think he's going dark at all. The way he said 'God complex' and then ruefully said,'yeah I know' made me feel he was going to try and end this along with Jack.... like even as he criticized him, he didn't blame or hate him. Goes wel with his 'I killed them didnt I' line too.
carsny 05-19-2010, 01:05 PM I honestly thought he was kind of pissed that Jack immediately jumped at the offer and that he regretted not offering to take the "position."
evanesco75 05-19-2010, 01:20 PM Dude, I hope this rivalry's over! This close to the end.... do we really need Round5455 of Jack vs. Sawyer? I know I don't.
Fierro 05-19-2010, 01:30 PM Sawyer better watch out now. If he pisses Jack off now, Jack is gonna kick his butt with his newly learn Kung Fu skills inherited from Jacob...
lostfromthebeginningYIKES 05-19-2010, 01:42 PM I think that facial expression was just a look. I think he's had a change or heart. The camera did seem to linger on Sawyer for a moment, as if we were supposed to see the look on his face. I took this to mean that either Sawyer was thinking he too wants the job, or perhaps the look was just a coming to terms with all that is happening and that Jack in the end truly is "better" than him. I mean no disrespect to Sawyer and his fans, I'm one of them, just seemed as though it was a look of concession, a realization that Jack really is a leader of men.
quizzical 05-19-2010, 01:52 PM Sawyer looked like he had some doubts to me. It could have been about Jack's ability to do the job, or that Jack would get to play the hero and get special powers. Sawyer might have been a little jealous.
It could also be that Sawyer was looking for Jacob's angle in all this - trying to find a con in progress. Sawyer knows all about the importance of symbolic gestures in convincing your mark that what you are saying is the real deal.

hehehe
chemgirl81 05-19-2010, 02:19 PM I think he just looks really serious in that screencap, not evil.
And agreeing with Hurley that he is glad "it isn't me".
AboutBunnies 05-19-2010, 02:37 PM Gosh, it was a serious moment. Jack had just committed himself to the island. I think Sawyer and the others were taking in the enormity of it all. It's serious stuff. And Sawyer was maybe thinking thru the situation, wondering if he should have stepped up. But evil? Vindictive? Smoke-bound? I sure don't see it. I think some people want Sawyer to become Smokey, so they're reading that scenario into it. (IMO)
Bicklefitch 05-19-2010, 03:03 PM I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sawyer has something up his sleeve. Remember the scene with Hurley, Sawyer and the tree frog in One of them? Sawyer was on a quest for vengeance against a tree frog who wouldn't let him rest (foreshadowing of a quest to make Jack pay for the death of Juliet?). Unable to locate the tree frog on his own, Sawyer had to rely on Hurley's inside knowledge to put him in a position to squash the little critter (just as Hurley's trek to the lighthouse was needed to bring Jack to Camp Locke?). But I'm guessing his plan may be thwarted by Jacob's failsafe. And besides, not everything goes well with DHARMA ranch dressing ;).

I agree, I think Jack gave him the words he needed when he said Flocke killed them and the whole God complex comment we all know he was just being a smart *** trying to change the mood

It was like he just had to make that quip about Jack's "god complex", but his heart wasn't really in it. Hence the quick, "Yeah, I know," in response to Kate's admonishment.
I actually think Sawyer and Jack are at a point where there is no more baggage between them, no more recriminations. Just peace, for real this time. I thought that look after Jack said he would do it was just a moment of consideration as to whether he should try to talk Jack out of it as he didn't quite trust this Jacob guy. In the end, he decided it had to be Jack's choice so he didn't say anything. That was my sense of it.
skate 05-20-2010, 03:51 AM i think he's just worried about what's to come. he realises they are all in danger, especially now that they are no longer candidates and could be easily killed off by flocke.

From your mouth....
Besides, the God Complex line was pretty hilarious, and typical Sawyer. I chuckled too at that moment. It lightened the situation a little. And yes, Sawyer's aware of what a thankless job it is, so I'm sure he will do what he can to help Jack.
Something I've been waiting for since S1: the boys getting along :)

YIKES!!!! That hadn't even registered with me, but yeah----they're all vulnerable now!
the exiled 05-20-2010, 07:16 AM The look I remember is when Jack says it's time to leave the beach. Without a word Sawyer grabs his gun & follows. That was a chilling look. Great job Josh!
That look is for Locke/MIB. It's the look he has when he's out for blood. It's the look he had when he killed the innocent man in Australia & Cooper. Sawyer is back in the Wild, looking for vengeance.
The change of heart I saw was that Sawyer realized he couldn't escape the Island. He had to finish business 1st!
evanesco75 05-20-2010, 07:41 AM I agree, exiled. This time, he simply picked up his gun and followed Jack. I think they all realize now, there ain't no leavin' this rock!

I think Sawyer looks like either Kate or Hurley farted
evanesco75 05-20-2010, 07:48 AM Lol!!
baldlocke 05-20-2010, 04:07 PM yes..I noticed it too
