IMO Des is the event horizon, though DL and CC are not doing it correctly, it is the only thing I can come up with. It helps the two time lines 'bleed' together. This is just a guess, but with little else to work with, it is all I could come up with.

I've actually been considering the light comes from a black hole. As a black hole absorbs light, it can only absorb so much at once, and it actually begins to glow.

In reality, such a thing wouldn't be stable, but it's still a thought, because it would also explain almost every other phenomenon from the EM to the time travel.

Yeah. That's what I take away too. Widmore knew, I guess, that he could send Des into the Magic Cave to do something. Brother now thinks he can send Des into the Magic Cave to do something else. It IS Lord Of The Rings. The cave is damnation and salvation at the same time.

Anyway, on topic, do we know that Island Desmond has the same level of awareness of the Alt-verse that Alt-Desmond has of the Island-verse? While Alt-Desmond appears to have complete knowledge/past memory of the Island-verse, does Island Desmond have the same complete knowledge/future memory of the Alt-verse?
We know that Alt-Desmond has complete awareness through his actions rounding up the Alt-Losties. However, the only "actions" we've seen by Island Desmond is having a Zen-like demeanor right after being exposed to Widmore's electromagnetic chamber, willingly go with Sayid to Smocke, and getting thrown down the well by Smocke. . . .Do these actions indicate that Island Desmond is fully enlightend as to the Alt-verse?

So Desmond is supposed to go into Mother's hole to cause some sort of "event"? What do you think the significance is of both brothers, Jacob and MIB, thinking this is a good idea??

Hah, I guess it's a good thing we're not protecting the island, because if I were Jacob I'd be so curious about what happens when you throw different stuff down there. I'd be winging rocks and frogs and stuff in there, just to see what comes out. Throwing stones and such, into Mother's hole. tee hee hee.
