according to a new article, the lost season 6 dvd will have up to 20 minutes of extra stuff that will explain the bigger unanswered mysteries of the show. the walt question will be answered on the dvd. not to mention other bigger mysteries. it will not just be a straight forward interview but it will be done in a creative unique way to answer the questions.

Hahahahahahahahah. Good for the folks who still believe, but as for me. No. They had plenty of opportunities to solve the long-standing mysteries within the context of the show and chose not to. This seems like a really crass attempt to string the fans along and squeeze a few more dollars out of them.

I'll pass, thanks.

The article says they'll answer "any unanswered questions", but the actual quote is "some of the unanswered questions". It's also less than 20 minutes. My prediction: new DHARMA videos explaining the food drops, and maybe some slightly more substantial stuff like the polar bears and talking birds.

I don't see anything in the article about Walt.

I'm a harcore fan and have all 5 seasons on Blu-Ray but I definitely won't be buying the S6 Blu-Ray or the combo pack. I does seem like it's a way to drive up the sales but I don't want to give ABC or Darlton any more of my cash. Besides once the DVD's/Blu-Rays are released the answers will be available on Lostpedia.

If TPTB were so concerned about giving the audience the answers, why couldn't they have done it in a medium that didn't require anyone spending more money? Giving the answers within the show would have been the best route, but obviously that was too difficult, so why not do interviews after the show, or podcasts?

JK Rowling did exactly that. After the HP series was over, she addressed unresolved issues (which they weren't very many) in interviews with the press, fans and on her website. She didn't go into "radio silence" immediately following the release of the last book.

I'm assuming this is how they will answer the DHARMA drops, because they said in an earlier podcast this season that the food drops would be answered but not within the show.

Um, didn't they go the whole the season claiming the time for questions is over. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I agree with Lordofthefiles, they had 3 years to dish out answers and decided not to. This is kind of an insult.

the answers they are giving are only answers hardcore fans would care about. the majority of the 12-15 million people who watched lost on a weekly basis do not come onto message boards and disect the show down to every sound, every whisper and every scene. the majority are fine with the answer to walt being that he was born special. the majority of fans are ok with the so called hurley bird not being definitivley answered. tptb are adding certain answers to the dvd for fans who will already buy the dvd. its a little extra for the true hardcore fan who has been on message boards breaking down the show in every minute detail.

as to jk rowlings. she also rectoned parts of her story. harry potter is one of my favorite books of all times, but don't act like she was perfect. she rectonned dumbldore into a gay man after the final book came out.

Yeah. It's not just kind of an insult. It's the biggest one yet. "Give us more money and we'll show you the man behind the curtain. Pinky-swear!" And then, ten years later, as the anniversary DVD collector's edition hits the shelves. "Finally, all the LOST answers you've been waiting for! Buy! Buy! Buy!"

If you think Damon and Carlton are going to offer any compelling, satisfying answers to these long-running mysteries, you'd better take a deep breath, because you're going to be holding it for a very long time. If they could have come up with any compelling, satisfying answers to these long-running mysteries they would have told them within the context of the show, where it mattered to the characters and to the audience.

I never said she was perfect, just that she did a better job with HP.

And just because DD was gay doesn't change the fact she actually answered questions immediately following the last book and didn't go into hiding or didn't try to make money from unresolved issues.

none of the answers that they will reveal will be needed to complete the story. the answers are only for those who are already going to be buying the dvd's. so how are they trying to squeeze out extra money from people? the people the answers are for are already buying the dvd's. so i have no clue what your talking about?

From what I've read, these aren't going to be "What is the Island"-caliber answers. More like things that had no bearing on the plot, like (I assume) the food drops (which frankly I see more people asking about than Walt)

Just to be clear, the answers will also be available to those people who don't buy the DVD's, through the media and internet. Thankfully to get these answers you don't need to buy the DVD's/Blu-Rays.

Also, the answers that JKR was providing after the series was over had nothing to do with the outcome of the story either.

"give us more money"???

Lost is a TV show. you can watch it for free online or with a basic-cable subscription.

considering this, it's pretty sad to resort to personal attacks against the writers and judging their motives.

I agree, they even had storylines like Illana being Jacob's daughter cut because they ran out of time, and after seeing the final had went so overtime, why didn't they just do a full season 6 order, to be able to answer everything. Oh well.

I look forward to the 11 extra minutes for the series final, I wonder if they are added to the final or just deleted scenes.

I remember way back TPTB said that if the show got cancelled they would have a talking Orangutan called Joop (I think he appeared in one of the ARGs) answer some of the questions, maybe they'll do it that way to give us some Island related answers.

Well, I'm buying the boxset for the collection either way, so I see this as a bonus. I also believe that Darlton will never get peace regarding this show unless they do answer the bigger mysteries and will probably get asked about them on every interview they'll ever do, so it's better for them to get things out.

edit: doesn't anybody else feel that 20mins is a bit short, though?

Not only that, but Rowling answered mostly fan curiosity issues, not major plot points. That was done inside the series. (She also didn't use her later expositiion as a sales pitch to sell additional material at $79.99, on sale for $51.99 on Amazon.)

Don't forget that the numbers dropped in the millions as payoffs to early season questions didn't get resolved while more and more new questiosn and characters sprung up. If we're going to talk numbers, we can't just act like the majority of people that tuned in didn't have issues with it, whether they expressed it by voicing discontent in detail in the Fuselage or by losing faith in the show and tuning out.

It's sad that they're answering questions outside of the story. They had their time set up, they just kept piling on mysterteries without a solid structure in which to satisfactorily answer them and thus we were left with 'magic light' and chuck-e-cheese.

Are they going to answer the questions regarding the gaping plot holes?

I hope they admit that originally the island was supposed to be a purgatory/limbo type place that these people were 'lost' in before they got to move on. People guessed this within season 1 and so they said let's change it, but decided to shoe-horn in the same ending despite the obvious problems it would, and indeed did, cause.

This is the most blatant marketing gimmick I've ever seen, and sort of disgusting (you want the answers to those mysteries we shirked during the actual show? then fork over more money!). Moreover it would take far more than 20 minutes to wrap up any significant mysteries satisfactorily. I also wouldn't be at all surprised is this is entirely a product of the ABC money machine than something the people who matter cooked up.
Anyways, I'm done being angry, and I try to remember the good in Lost, but there is no way I'm giving any more money to the people behind it. ***mod edit***

Hasn't anybody ever thought that one of the reasons they left mysteries answered was precisely to answer them in some other way once the main show was over?????? Perhaps they did it on purpose....

Millions of fans are gonna buy DVD's just to get some 'answers'....

Millions of fans would go watch a movie based on the show just to have some LOST back in their lives even after 3, 5 or 10 years after the show is over (they did it with the X-files after all)

Millions of fans are gonna buy books, magazines, novels, etc to get some answers....

Millions of fans would watch a new series based even loosely on the show ( I now I would!!!!)....

I mean, it is possible....

Guys, even if the show is over and some of you might think the Fuselage is dying, there are still rules regarding spoilers and copyright that need to be followed here and there are still mods around that will make sure that these rules are followed.

Thank you.
