View Full Version : couple of things
cladams69 12-09-2004, 07:26 AM Im guessing we all pretty much agree that Ethan Rom is not this guys real name. If you rearrange the letters you get "other man". What is his deal. The local radio station is starting a theory that Ethan is the husband of the woman that died on the table and this is all his revenge. Personally I think that is a little tough to grasp mostly because he was "not on the plane".
Also, Im hoping that the whole Charlie incident satifies part of the rumored death count.
I thought this was an awesome episode.

On another thread in here someone mentioned that Ethan looked a lot like the husband of the dead woman from Jack's past...I haven't had the chance to go back and watch it again to check, or check the cast list to see if it was the same actor...here's a couple of wacko theories, cuz that's what I DO! :)
a) The "Other Man" issue with "Ethan Rom" could be very soap opera! Get this: Jack was seeing the woman and it was his baby! The husband, Ethan (or some form of him) never finds out and mourns the loss of both a wife and unborn child for the rest of his life, which haunts Jack. Jack was the other man, and now Ethan Rom is back for revenge, perhaps projected from Jack's own guilt! OMIGOD!!
b) Going along those lines, maybe the Others are all ghosts from the castaways' pasts...maybe if we were to line them up and take a look, we'd not only have the husband of the dead woman there haunting Jack, but Sayid's lost lady, Jack's father, the victims of Sawyer's cons, Michael's ex, etc etc etc. Maybe the creature that confronted Locke early on, when he came to an understanding with the island, was his personal Other. That would explain his encouraging Jack to seek what he needs to find in White Rabbit. Hmmm, maybe even all of Danielle's murdered crewmates. She's obviously not faced up to her demons which would explain why she's constantly bothered by the Others--she's nowhere near making peace, like Locke did.
The sneakiness!

This idea could work, but I* don't want it to. I like this show being less about monsters in the trees and more about the people. So if they are dead, or Jack is dreaming, or the others are ghosts (oooh like in The Others-that movie freaked me out.) I would be disappointed I think.
Nah-I could never be disappointed. As an aspiring writer myself, this show is as good as it gets on TV right now. No matter what, I am here to stay for the writing and the actors, come what may. :)
redjakiblue 12-09-2004, 11:05 AM Hi. This is my first time posting. So this stuff may have been mentioned somewhere else and I haven't gotten to it yet.
I thought it was great that when Kate told Jack to give up and that Charlie was dead he gave her the same look he had given his father, when he told him to quit working on the pregnant woman. And Jack decided he wasn't going to give in this time. Great TV Moment.
Also, did anyone else notice the tension between Michael and Charlie when Michael returned from "the south?" I watch enough JJ to be suspicious of everything. And it seemed that Charlie was glaring at Michael while Michael was avoiding his stare.
Just a thought.
Trueogre 12-09-2004, 12:36 PM The title of the Clair episode was Raised by Another.
Remember if you break it down you have Raised by An Other.
big_daddys32 12-09-2004, 12:38 PM Cladams69... You live in DC??? DC101's Dianne was promoting the same BS...
cladams69 12-10-2004, 07:25 AM Yes BigDaddy, Im around the DC area... while I think the ethan/grieving husband thing is an interesting idea, I dont agree and think that there is way too much for Ethan to have to have planned, I mean, he would have to plan a plane crash, I dont agree w/ her idea, but I think its awesome that they have such a response and its cool hearing them and the callers talk about their ideas.
mgoodnight 12-10-2004, 07:36 AM There is no way that Ethan could be projected from Jack's guilt or a figment of his imagination. Others on the island see him when Jack is not around. So far the only figment we have seen has been Jack's Dad and on one else saw him but Jack.
As for Ethan being the husband of the woman that died on the table, not likely, and not very good story line. To easy to come up with and to difficult to put him on the island at the same time. The similarities in the actors disappears when you realize that Ethan looks to be about 6'3'' (bigger than Jack) and the husband of the woman that died appears to be about 5'8" (shorter than Jack's dad)

Wasn't Charlie staring into space? I don't think he was looking at Michael. Michael was probably freaked out by Charlie's behavior, which would explain a concerned look.

madoo14 12-13-2004, 02:39 PM Wow, I'm in the DC area too :D* I usually listen to HFS but I'll be listening to DC 101 on thursdays from now on.* I don't like this particular theory too much (I'll try to come up with some screen caps to put it to rest) I would love to hear people call in with others, and who knows, I might even try myslef* ::)
