I love the show. Im addicted. But I am also very frustrated and think the writers have let the intelligent audience down by being over ambitious with the plotline.
Every week all season we see more and more weird stuff – things that we think are clues. For every 100 of these “clues” we only get 1 answer. At this point, it would take a 24 hour episode to answer all of the open ends – things the show seems to just forget about but we the viewer are left hanging.
Why doesn’t anyone notice the numbers on the hatch?
Why doesn’t anyone care that there is a cable running in to the ocean? Wouldn’t they investigate that?
What about the info on the maps?
And on and on and on….
The other disappointment is the way the characters communicate, or actually their lack of communication. Wouldn’t Danielle tell them “the blackrock is not really a rock but a ship”. Or wouldn’t the group ask Locke why he just stood there with Hurley instead of running? Instead once the “security system” goes away Jack, Kate, Danielle and Artz just join back up with Locke and Hurley and go on their way. Wouldn’t they want to know what Locke was doing? At least Hurley? There are so many times when I fell like Im watching a cartoon where one character sees something going on but the others don’t – and every time the others look whatever is happening stops. This is on an island!! An island where you have nothing to do all day except share information about your experiences and what is going on and how to survive. It is counter-intuitive to think that these characters wouldn’t be united and totally open in their sharing of intelligence.
I don’t consider the show to be a mystery at this point. I consider it strictly to be entertainment and I check my brain at the door the same way I would in a Schwartzenegger movie – this cant be a mystery that can be solved or explained at this point. There is no “logical or scientific” explanation that can tie everything together at this point.
I read that the creators of Alias got so entangled in the web of their storyline that after a couple of seasons they had to abandon it totally and that they swore it wouldn’t happen again. I think they need to remind themselves of this because it has happened with Lost and the intelligent viewers will still have “what about this” that the show will never answer even after the reveal.
