I'm not sure if anyone has come up with this already, so my appologies if that's the case.

The island seems to intensify peoples abilites/ talents etc.

Walt: The polar bear thing, the bacgammon dice, the rain stopping. his being "lucky"

Locke: His hunting, tracking abilities and intuitiveness in general

Jack: His healing abilities. His father mentioned that healing is his "talent" last night, and he saved charlie with a form of CPR that I've never seen before, nevermind that he didn't really breath for him much at all.

The one caveat is that you have to believe in your abilities for it to work. I mean Ethan had some pretty impressive strength for one guy.

This may all tie into the stolen baby too, but that's yet to be seen.
