View Full Version : Sayid and the Haliburton guns
green_eyed_colleen 05-24-2005, 06:15 PM OK so this has been nagging me and I don't remember if Jack took a gun into DARK TERRITORY or not? Anyone remember?
When Jack handed Sawyer one in Exodus I he told Sawyer he was giving the others to Sayid.
Why on earth would you leave 4 guns with Sayid and trek into something called Dark Territory with Danielle who is carrying a rifle but you wouldn't* carry a weapon and not give the only other person on your expedition you can trust with one ---Kate?
(You would be able to give one to Locke but I doubt Jack would trust him with it.)
I realise* you want to give your "2nd in command" the means to defend the Castaways from the OTHERS but -- hello why all the guns?* ???
Naughty Paws 05-24-2005, 06:17 PM Yeah!
amathews99 05-24-2005, 06:41 PM Unless the writers assumed that we would know Jack would take a gun with him. I mean, I don't think that Jack would say to Sawyer, Oh, I have one gun and I'm giving the rest to Sayid. I think Sawyer would assume that Jack took one as well.

QueenElessar 05-24-2005, 10:56 PM Still though!!! I agree!!! EVERYONE going into dark territory should have had one of those guns!
...Or more accurately 4 of them...since that's how many they had...;)
Cassandra 05-24-2005, 11:27 PM Another good question is what exactly Sayid is supposed to do with the guns, since everyone who knows how to use them is either out tramping through the jungle of mystery or setting sail onto the deep blue sea. Is he supposed to give the other three guns to Charlie, Shannon, and Sun and say, "Okay--just don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes. Or until they try to eat Turniphead. Whichever comes first."
Edited to erase my cat's additions to this post.
QueenElessar 05-24-2005, 11:32 PM ah...now I'm getting it! Jack wanted Sayid to protect everyone...He figured it was more important that the people left behind were safe, than the hikers!
We KNOW Charlie can use a gun ;) And Shannon apparently can too as we saw in The Greater Good. I'm guessing that besides Sayid there has to at least be one other person capable enough to handle it.

i was waiting for his message!!!!!!!!!!!!
>^..^<
DublinLad 05-25-2005, 08:11 AM WOW i never thought of that , why would Dr Phil, give all his guns away
HEIDICT 05-25-2005, 08:41 AM The only reason I could figure is that Jack felt that the people on the beach / caves needed the guns for protection from the others. I'm sure that there are other lostaways that are capable of handling a gun besides Sayid. Charlie, for sure, and Shannon. But I think I might be a bit hesitant to give another gun to Shannon after what happened the last time she had one. :lol2:
DublinLad 05-25-2005, 09:18 AM Man oh man I wouldn't give anything to shannon, she is a selfish loose cannon
DublinLad 05-25-2005, 10:51 AM lOCKE HAS HIS CASE OF 400 KNIVES???
sharma1 05-25-2005, 11:13 AM Jack always kept a gun (the one from the Marshall in the holster) on him. So he has one on him,,
He should of left sayid with 2 guns,, not 3, but I am sure that dialect was for a reason. I'm sure TONIGHT we will get that answer.. I CANT WAIT :)
flora 05-25-2005, 01:16 PM How many guns?
Danielle has one rifle for sure on her. Then she has others at her hideaway- wherever that is- one of these Sayid tried to use to escape from her but she had disabled it, ironically her husband had failed to notice the same thing so many years ago...
Locke picked up the gun from the "Nigerian drug dealing priest pilot". Gave it to Sayid. Sayid said it proved that Locke had "adaptability". So, presumably Sayid still has this gun.
5 guns that originally belonged to the Marshal. Key around Jack's neck. One for sure went to Sawyer, and we were told that the rest were going to Sayid for safekeeping. Unknown whether or not Jack kept one for himself.
People who know how to use guns:
Danielle, presumably. But she's not one of the "group".
Sayid
Sawyer (on raft, the only one who could use a gun I guess)
Jack (or at least Jack thinks so anyway- I thought doctors played golf, but maybe he went to the shooting range?)
Kate (and very well too...don't know where she got her skills)
Shannon (damn good also, don't know where she learned- exboyfriend or what...)
Charlie (how'd a boy from England learn to shoot a 9 mm?)
Locke
any others? I'd find it hard to believe that some more of the extra Lostaways in the background wouldn't have some gun experience...
Cereline 05-25-2005, 01:29 PM For some reason I would just assume that Jack took one as well on his little trek. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight and see if he does have one on him or not.
sharma1 05-25-2005, 01:33 PM We have not seen Jack use a gun at all. So we really don't know if he can use it or use it well.* Shannon - not so sure she was such a good shot. She had the will to pull the trigger that time.
I agree BESS, Shannon was about 4 ft away from Locke, so it would be HARD to miss. *I have fired a 9 mm a few times, with no training I knew to point and shoot, after about the 5th or 6th shoot, you have the confidence to shoot anytime.. but if you have the need to protect yr self it would not be hard to do. *That is IMO of course.
elfdream 05-25-2005, 01:39 PM But its NOT the point and shoot. Its knowing how to handle the recoil. A novice..who knows NOTHING about guns can't just learn to absorb the kick by watching someone else.
I've shot things as well...and even though I knew about the recoil I was NOT ready for it. when it happened. It takes practise.

Yeah after my first bloody lip, I learned REAL quick..lol
But you are right
flora 05-25-2005, 02:15 PM I agree BESS, Shannon was about 4 ft away from Locke, so it would be HARD to miss. *I have fired a 9 mm a few times, with no training I knew to point and shoot, after about the 5th or 6th shoot, you have the confidence to shoot anytime.. but if you have the need to protect yr self it would not be hard to do. *That is IMO of course.
She was a little bit farther away than four feet! Plus, you have to remember her "warning shot" to the side to show that she knew what she was doing- she didn't even flinch at the recoil, and convincingly showed everyone that she did indeed know what she was doing. Then she still managed to graze Locke's temple though Sayid tackled her. If that's not skill, I don't know what is. So, yeah, I think it's safe to assume that she's had some gun handling in her background. Maybe during her brief marriage? Who knows?
Jack...yeah, even Jack dropped his gun during the Ethan ambush and chose to just use his fists. This allowed Charlie to pick up his dropped gun and shoot Ethan. (Surprise, surprise, surprise!) Though, who else dropped his gun (or else put it somewhere else) during this struggle? Locke. Put his gun away and whipped out a knife. I guess he just likes knives more than guns?
flora 05-25-2005, 02:41 PM I don't agree. I think what you are refering to as a warning shot was a miss. And until I SEE otherwise, I am standing firm in my Shannon does not know how to handle a weapon.*
A miss? When she delibrately turned to her left to shoot a shot to show Jack, Kate, Sayid and Locke that she could do it? She was standing directly in front of Locke, with a perfect straight shot ahead of her, she turned and fired a warning shot, then turned back to face Locke. That wasn't a miss; that was intentional.

I agree, I think Shannon shot that warning shot on purpose as well. Aren't Boone and Shannon from Texas?
Naughty Paws 05-25-2005, 05:18 PM yes, i certainly third that. not a miss.
elfdream 05-25-2005, 06:56 PM I hope that the two of them never make each other mad.... :lol2:
