View Full Version : Exodus the Lost Episode...Exodus the song
Wubba1108 05-25-2005, 09:07 AM Every time I think about these two episodes, I hear Bob Marley's song, Exodus, in my head. Kinda interesting if you think about the lyrics...
Men and people will fight ya down (Tell me why!)
When ya see the light.
Let me tell you if you're not wrong; (Then, why?)
Everything is all right.
So we gonna walk - all right! - through the roads of creation:
We the generation (Tell me why!)
trod through great tribulation.
Exodus, all right! Movement of the people!
Exodus: Movement of the people!
Open your eyes and look within:
Are you satisfied (with the life you're living)?
We know where we're going!
We know where we're from.
We're leaving Babylon,
We're going to our Father land.
Exodus: movement of the people!
(Movement of the people!) Send us another brother Moses!
(Movement of the people!) From across the Red Sea!
(Movement of the people!) Send us another brother Moses!
(Movement of the people!) From across the Red Sea!
Movement of the people!
Move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Move!
Open your eyes and look within:
Are you satisfied with the life you're living?
We know where we're going;
We know where we're from.
We're leaving Babylon, y'all!
We're going to our Father's land.
They come to break down opression,
Rule equality,
Wipe away transgression,
Set the captives free.
Movement of the people!
Movement of the people!
Movement of the people!
RamessesIX 05-25-2005, 10:37 AM Me too! I cannot read the title without that staccato chorus thumping in my head -- great tune, though. The way these writers work, it wouldn't surprise me if there were clues in the song lyrics, and it really wouldn't surprise me if there were clues in the Book of Exodus. They've admitted, IIRC, that there is a Biblical theme to the show.
flora 05-26-2005, 10:48 AM Man, I thought I was the only one who got that song stuck in my head when they originally released the episode title. I mentioned it on the 'lage but no one bit. I took no offense, but felt redeemed :lol2: last night when Sawyer was singing "Redemption Song" (now that's stuck in my head...damn good song) and Michael said something to the effect of "Everyone likes Bob Marley" or "Who doesn't like Bob Marley" (don't remember exact line). But damn straight!!!
Now...big question. Did anyone find anything ironic about Sawyer singing "Redemption Song"?
When Sawyer dove in after the rudder and Michael said, "You just saved our ***, buddy."
or
When Sawyer mentioned to Michael that he had "the patience of a saint" and admitted when asked about his father "My daddy never got a chance to beat me, he died when I was 8, man." Which lead Michael to say: "Is that why you want to die, man...[to be on this raft] you're either a hero or you want to die." To which, Saywer said:
'Well, I ain't no hero, Mike."
But he saved the rudder and he tried to save Walt but got shot before he got a good shot in. My question is: was Sawyer "redeemed"? and was his singing "Redemption Song" foreshadowing?
And then once you look at the words of "Redemption Song"...whoa! Pirates stole me (slave ship)? Hello??? Walt??????
Old pirates, yes, they rob i;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took i
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the ’and of the almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
’cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
’cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ooh!
Some say it’s just a part of it:
We’ve got to fulfil de book.
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
’cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! have no fear for atomic energy,
’cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it’s just a part of it:
We’ve got to fulfil de book.
Won’t you help to sing
Dese songs of freedom? -
’cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.
McGuane 05-26-2005, 11:59 AM Yep. Those I watched with immediately began the thumping chorus of the great song Exodus when Bob Marley was mentioned.
How 'bout: Send us another brother Moses.
Like maybe Aaron, Moses' brother?
I did think the Redemption Song ref to Old Pirate Ships and Sell Us to the Merchant Ships was a bit anvil-handed, but its a great song too so oh well.
Even if you are mad at TPTB about the lack or resolutions and the no-reveal hatch reveal, gotta give em credit for great taste in music.
Wubba1108 05-26-2005, 12:34 PM Yeah, it kinda stopped me in my tracks last night when Claire referred to her baby as Aaron. Like I said when I posted this, these two episodes have had Bob Marley's "Exodus" stuck in my head.
Then Claire mentions Aaron...who was Moses' older brother....and that ties into the song lyrics...
and then Sawyer's singing Redemption Song (which, for some reason, always chokes me up when I hear it...its just so damn beautiful).
But hey, we're in the islands, people.
Now what would've been REALLY cool is if the others in the boat were a bunch of rasta men and they had a big 'ole party back on the beach w/ the survivors! :lol2:

Maybe that was one of the alternate endings they shot? :lol2: Would have given the whole show a different feel...an irie vibe!
thebridgeisover 05-28-2005, 02:33 AM amazing thread. I cant believe this isnt being discussed more! Anybody mentioned the atomic energy line?

What atomic energy line?
Elinnz 05-28-2005, 10:16 AM The whole Bob Marley/Exodus thing got me thinking that a few of the episodes are, obviously, song title names: Born to Run, House of the Rising Sun, White Rabbit.* Even episodes like The Moth (Aimee Man), Walkabout (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Confidence Man (Jeff Healey Band), have songs with the same name.* I wonder if anything is relevent in the lyrics, etc.
Does anyone know if this has already been discussed somewhere else?
steveg 05-28-2005, 10:32 AM But he saved the rudder and he tried to save Walt but got shot before he got a good shot in.* My question is: was Sawyer "redeemed"? and was his singing "Redemption Song" foreshadowing?
I don't think Sawyer is Redeemed, he still mentioned how he still wanted to kill a man. He has not forgiven and still wants revenge!
bartleby 05-28-2005, 11:24 AM I posted some ideas about this over on the General Theories board under the subject heading "Wipe away transgression,
Set the captives free." Check it out.
