View Full Version : People on the Boat
fldhockeyplyr22 05-25-2005, 10:26 PM Who were the people on the boat? *Are these the "Others"? *Pirates, smugglers, bounty hunters?
* * * * * * *- The had American accents, and there was a woman. *The woman would fit into the whispers heard in the jungle.
How does Ethan fit into this (remember he sounded American too...but I believe he said he was from Canada)
Were they coming for Walt all along? *Why?

They are The Others. Problely Alex. Ethan was an other. Yes and because he is special.
mizbehavn 05-25-2005, 10:35 PM I think the woman on the boat may have been Alex. *We know Danielle's transmission has been playing for 16 years but who knows how long she's really been on the island. *Her daughter could possibly be the about the same age as the woman on the boat. *When Danielle said the whispers said they "needed to get the boy", she thought they meant the baby. *Poor Walt....he seemed terrified. *And poor Michael....to be helpless to stop them. *But shooting my Sawyer....noooooooooooooooooo. :'(
fldhockeyplyr22 05-25-2005, 10:38 PM I am trying to get to who the "Others" actually are.......thoughts?
daftbrain 05-25-2005, 10:44 PM Are there any screencaps of the others available?
fiawc 05-25-2005, 10:45 PM http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0301370/
thats the main guy from the boat... he is also credited from the last episode, exodus pt 1....
Earendil 05-25-2005, 10:46 PM I am trying to get to who the "Others" actually are.......thoughts?
I had the thought rolling around that they are the decendants of the Black Rock crew maybe?
katorhue 05-25-2005, 10:49 PM What I want to know is--how are they getting gasoline for their boat?
panthers14 05-25-2005, 10:51 PM just rewatched the scene...3 men...all in front of boat...1 women driving boat, she throws the bomb onto the boat...they are certainly the other, on the science boat...
willy 05-25-2005, 10:53 PM They must have had a stock of gasoline, and they probably use the boat very sparingly. They obviously don't want to get off the island.
Ceceoh 05-25-2005, 10:55 PM I had the thought rolling around that they are the decendants of the Black Rock crew maybe?
But how would the descendents of the Black Rock castaways get a modern fishing boat?
ILikeTurtles 05-25-2005, 10:56 PM They were definately the others.
Clydefrog 05-25-2005, 10:58 PM I had the thought rolling around that they are the decendants of the Black Rock crew maybe?
Here are my 2 cents...(probably needs to go in theories)
The "Others" on the boat are the decendants of, not the crew, but the prisoners(assuming here) of the slave ship on its way to mine for gold or whatever....the crew were locked up when the prisoners took over.
Earendil 05-25-2005, 11:07 PM thats the main guy from the boat... he is also credited from the last episode, exodus pt 1....
On IMDB it just says pat 2 and 3.
how are they getting gasoline for their boat?
I was wondering that too. Unless there is a refinery somewhere. Or there are tons of other Lostaways on the island in different areas, and they have been doing this (collecting special people) for years?
daftbrain 05-25-2005, 11:11 PM please.. can someone post a screencap of the others and their boat, or point me towards a site with screencaps?
QueenElessar 05-25-2005, 11:14 PM I defintitely think it was the others...
Although I was kind of dissapointed that they seemed more like hicks than the incredibly creepy people I thought they'd be
I like the idea that they are descendants of the Black Rock crew...they WERE the ones who were running the number transmission for years I'm guessing...since Danielle said it came from the Black Rock.
And I think Alex was with them...
Raven 05-25-2005, 11:19 PM please.. can someone post a screencap of the others and their boat, or point me towards a site with screencaps?
The best site (I know of) is:
http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&cat=7
At this moment, it says 27 screencaps for Exodus part two. Those are certainly preview shots. Keep watch and when it jumps higher than 27 you got your episode shots. They also have a separate section for promo shots if you dig around.
soxgirl 05-25-2005, 11:23 PM it could be danielle's crew and her boat.
LostGenie 05-25-2005, 11:27 PM If you look again, the two goons on the boat are identical. If not twins, then my theory... CLONES!
So, the island is a WW2 or Cold War Black Opps Project to create a super human fighting force that has gone horribly wrong. The Hatch will likely lead to a laboratory. They need Walt for adolesent pituitary gland grow hormone, or maybe stem cells.
Is anyone one here a specialist on genetic code? Maybe 4-8-15-16-23-42 is a strain or chain in the genetic ladder?
Then again, I know that doesn't explain the "Black Rock".
Sunder 05-25-2005, 11:29 PM But how would the descendents of the Black Rock castaways get a modern fishing boat?
And also -if the Black Rock was an actual slave ship then the descendants of its survivors would not have had modern accents.
Jayde 05-25-2005, 11:32 PM Well, I thought the people were plenty creepy personally. But then maybe I just think hicks are creepy in general? *:lol2:
I didn't think about gasoline. That's a good point. Although, it appears as though the island draws in planes, boats, etc over time. I'm guessing somehow when they had need of a boat with gas, 'the island' or whatever it was, draws in someone with a boat that has gas.
??? am I making ANY sense at all?
mizbehavn 05-25-2005, 11:47 PM And also -if the Black Rock was an actual slave ship then the descendants of its survivors would not have had modern accents.
Maybe they are able to "mimic" the voices/accents of those they encounter??
Pulpy Austinite 05-25-2005, 11:51 PM as far as the gasoline situation goes... i'm already convinced that the established 'others' are fully capable of getting OFF the isalnd, but they just don't have any reason to. its a pefect place to do... whatever it is they do.
LostGenie 05-25-2005, 11:54 PM If you look again, the two goons on the boat are identical. If not twins, then my theory... CLONES!

I've got it! Arzt was right. Maybe the "Black Rock" was swept onto the island by a tsunami. And the survivors were living in secret (Like Peter Benchley's novel The Island) when the Black Opp scientists set up shop. Then they somehow interfered with each other, creating a mess.Something mutated into a virus. The experiment then ran amok. Like Benchley's novel, the Black Rock crew learned to survive and adapt. Perhaps the island was a submarine refueling base in WW2 being as it is in the Pacific Rim. In which case it would have vast stores of deisel fuel. Subs of that era ran on deisel, as many boats do. And as in Benchley's novel, anyone coming to or near the island would be pilaged. Hence the "Others" boat may be one of the spoils, or perhaps even one of Danelle's team. Sorry if this should be in theories. *:-[
Raven 05-26-2005, 01:03 AM (Like Peter Benchley's novel The Island)
ooh... funny you should mention this. One of the ads (at least here) during the show was for the movie "The Island", although I'm pretty sure it's not Peter Benchley's story.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399201/
LostGenie 05-26-2005, 01:20 AM No, that looks like a whole other animal. Looked more like the movie COMA to me. Possibly to do with organ harvesting?
If you ever get a chance, check out the movie of Peter Benchley's The Island starring Michael Caine made in 1980. It is pretty good, and there are some erie similaraties. Like when the pirates steal Michael Caine's son and brain wash him. I wonder if that is what is in store for Walt too?
thebridgeisover 05-26-2005, 01:43 AM the others were like "deliverance" meets "the prisoner".
"You sure gotta prutty mouf boy! Squeal like a monster!"
As a georgia resident, I felt like I was at my family reunion. A friend of mine told me she was scared. I told her it looked like the customers of any waffle house on any day.
(end redneck rant)
waltisfuture 05-26-2005, 02:03 AM The boat people are too inbred, and they need new DNA, but why a boys?
EyeAmLost 05-26-2005, 02:21 AM ok, is it just me or did it seem like the "boat" was underwater almost like some sort of "submarine"/"monster" that was underwater. then when the light came on i was like... ummmmm..... am i seeing things different????
anyone know what i mean?
hugh_da_man 05-26-2005, 02:26 AM How about this.
The Others are cursed souls. *They attract people to the island to try to get them to help them uncover some lost treasure or some unfinished goal. *They are from the ship that they thought was a slave ship but was maybe a prisoner ship. *The skeletons are the crew of the ship.
They escaped the island burying their treasure on the island and their souls have now been drawn back to the island.
The island has been used for other things since then so the Others don't control the security system.
So we would have 4 separate groups. *Ethan and Danielle who were taking Claire to get back Alex, the lostaways, the security system and whoever owns/runs it, and the Others who are trying to do something that we don't know.
I'm starting to think that the Others don't live on the island either. *I think they are anchored to the island with the cable that Sayid found and they have a ship out on the ocean. *They have the gas for their boat because they found other tanks to scavenge on the island.
I thought that the Others would turn out to be descendants of some past wreck, but I was thinking generations ago, in which case they wouldn't speak the way they did or probably even look like that.* So now they're people with a boat, and gas to run it, and a battery for the light I guess (or gas for the generator?) -- blew me away, I tell ya!
So where are they keeping the boat that nobody would notice it chugging out there to intercept the Raft People?* Maybe you're onto something with that cable theory, hugh -- but it would have to be a long, long cable.
EAZYJ 05-26-2005, 02:35 AM The others had guns and it looked like they had some sort of improvised explosive device....so i dont think these people are living as primitvie as the othe survivors.....they probably have gas, and all kinds of stuff(even though it looks like they ran out of clean clothes)
hugh_da_man 05-26-2005, 02:37 AM So where are they keeping the boat that nobody would notice it chugging out there to intercept the Raft People?* Maybe you're onto something with that cable theory, hugh -- but it would have to be a long, long cable.
We didn't start hearing the "motor" till they got closer. For all we know that wasn't the motor.
They wouldn't need a long cable if their boat is underwater.
EAZYJ 05-26-2005, 02:42 AM Well I think they have a motor....but I bet they wish they would of listened to Michael...and not shot the flare at that moment.
Of course I dont blame them...its what they had to do.
Sam G 05-26-2005, 02:48 AM please.. can someone post a screencap of the others and their boat, or point me towards a site with screencaps?
Probably not up yest.

ILikeTurtles 05-26-2005, 02:48 AM Just to confirm to you guys, Harold was on Jimmy Kimmel tonight and did say that they were indeed the Others that we saw tonight that took Walt.
So there you go.
Sam G 05-26-2005, 03:07 AM The woman on the boat looks to be more like Danielle's age. Certainly not 16-20.
waltisfuture 05-26-2005, 03:22 AM Sam Grant. Maybe she's just had a really hard 16 years, as a slave in more ways than one, to the others?
We didn't start hearing the "motor" till they got closer.* For all we know that wasn't the motor.
They wouldn't need a long cable if their boat is underwater.
Wasn't it an ordinary boat, not a submarine or something? How would they get that thing underwater?
wavenest 05-26-2005, 07:40 AM The others have gas from Danielle ship and they could possibly be part of her science team. Maybe they took Alex because Danielle is nuts?
Vertical 05-26-2005, 07:46 AM I'll get some screencaps up of the others soon.
Toonces 05-26-2005, 08:01 AM They freaked me out! Maybe it's because I have two small children, but I made sure the doors were locked last night. I couldn't get Walt's frightened look out of my head. However the Waffle House comment made me giggle - maybe this is where the ghosts of Mayberry rest, Earnest T's soul needs a body! :lol2:
bri_nic23 05-26-2005, 08:02 AM That was definately the others on the boat. *Now whether it is the same others as are ON the island, I don't know. *I have thought that they were cloning too, and if those two people were not twins, then cloning makes sense. *I wonder why they were so intent on taking Walt. *Why would they just leave the men out there by the raft and take off, knowing that they could get back to the island and tellthe castaways what happened?
Luv2BLost 05-26-2005, 09:05 AM As a georgia resident, I felt like I was at my family reunion. A friend of mine told me she was scared. I told her it looked like the customers of any waffle house on any day.

LOL! I thought they looked like people from an episode of Jerry Springer. I wished they looked more scary. It would have been great if we didn't see their faces and as the boat got closer, all you could see were figures in black robes and then a creepy voice speaks out demanding "the boy."
Founder 05-26-2005, 09:37 AM The best part is that the "Guy" from the boat....is the new Sherriff Roscoe P Coltrane in the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie!!! Thats awesome!!!!!!!!!
But I digress. These people can't be decendants of the Black Rock, or people of cursed souls, ect.
The reason why is that it is obvious that there is some sort of underground "lair" or groups of tunnels underneath the island. As well, that was a fairly new looking boat. SO, all of these things would have to have been built on the island and the supplies to build them, brought to the island. So these people must have been in contact with the outside world for at least the last 20 years in order to get the materials to do these things.
This kinda reminds me of The Incredibles. When they bring the Dad to the island to destroy the robot, only the real reason is to help improve the robots deficiencies. What if....
The island is a testing ground for this defense system. If I was going to build a crazy defense system, it would be smart of me to be able to adapt a system that was invisible, or partially. Thats what happened when we saw the smoke, it enveloped the machine and for a second we saw part of it. It would also ne able to be subterrinian when not attacking, like the monsters in Tremors, it just jumps on you without notice.
So maybe the people want Walt and his special powers to test the machine out, or try to defeat it. Maybe they have been doing this all along. Maybe the voices are of the people that have HAD special powers and been defeated by this thing, "Adam and Eve", maybe the priest? Maybe Alex? And that they have been beaten by the the machine and somehow lived on in some form that only allows their consious to survive or something. I don't think that the Voices are in cohoots with the Others. But I think the Others are in cahoots with the Monster. And from the tunnels and hatch and things popping out of the ground, I belive theres alot more UNDER this island than above it.
mikenmo23 05-26-2005, 10:16 AM Founder- I totally agree with you that the island was some sort of military testing ground and that the hatch is probably an old "escape hatch" that doesnt get used....and it connects to a myriad of underground tunnels which will all lead to the "facility" where all the testing went on (still is going on?)....that would explain how "the others" have a boat...have gas...etc.
I believe that the "base" was shut down and a few "scientist's" stayed there and continued their experiments...they can somehow "lure" objects/people to the island and use them to their benefit....
sorry if this belonged in the theory section....

The ladder only went down about 10 feet and it looked like it was broken off.

teighboy 05-26-2005, 03:50 PM Hi everyone.* First time poster but have been lurking for some time now.* I thought it was strange that "the others" on the boat were wearing heavy coats and hats while our rafters were wearing shorts and t-shirts.* I wonder why this is.* Did anyone else find this odd?* It also looked like it was snowing or sleeting on the others but not the rafters.
NurMisur 05-26-2005, 04:50 PM Hi everyone. First time poster but have been lurking for some time now. That's a really good observation.* Something was bugging me about that part but I couldn't figure out what it was.* They looked like deep sea fishermen or something.* Maybe it is cold in the hatch or maybe part of the island is close to antarctica?
pibbsneaker 05-26-2005, 04:50 PM While it has been mentioned that the Others might be descendents of the crew of the Black Rock, it seems more plausible that they are the crew of the Black Rock. With this island, it doesn’t seem to far-fetched that they might have lived that long. Unless the writers really goofed, the ship has to be from the later 19th century because dynamite was not invented until 1866 . I don’t know about anyone else, but those guys looked like they could have been from the late 19th century.

I really think you're onto something here. I also have the notion (supported by 'the Others' having gasoline) that the island is not totally isolated from the rest of the world, the castaways just think it is. I think there are people who come and go regularly, and may even be based in the area to prevent escapes.....
JAZZYJ 05-26-2005, 05:18 PM And they may have been dressed in heavier clothing because they live so far underground that it is cold down there.
RamessesIX 05-26-2005, 05:20 PM Why would they just leave the men out there by the raft and take off, knowing that they could get back to the island and tellthe castaways what happened?
Having burned the raft, I imagine they thought they were leaving them for dead. There may be logs floating around, and the remains of the raft, but I'm on pins and needles wondering how Michael, Jin, and Sawyer (who's been shot, don't forget) are going to make it even back to the relative safety of the island (15 miles or so).
waltisfuture 05-26-2005, 05:28 PM Hi everyone.* First time poster but have been lurking for some time now.* I thought it was strange that "the others" on the boat were wearing heavy coats and hats while our rafters were wearing shorts and t-shirts.* I wonder why this is.* Did anyone else find this odd?* It also looked like it was snowing or sleeting on the others but not the rafters.
Excellent first post. ;D I can't wait to see piks to look for this weather anomoly. I love the idea of different dimensions, and time travel etc. Are the others actually in the waters off of Canada, and they come to the island for new meat, through a (?). I know this can't be, but I love playing with the idea.
JAZZYJ 05-26-2005, 05:29 PM grab a log and get to kicking, we've got a long haul before were back
nonyabizwaz 05-26-2005, 07:26 PM Great catch about the coats, etc.
Here's why I think they're the Others: The scene prior was Danielle telling Sayid and Charlie that she heard the Others whispering that they wanted the boy (assuming they were whispering about the baby). And the Others WERE at the black smoke station until they saw the raft launch with Walt on it. That's why no one was there when Danielle, et al arrived...they were on their own boat headed for a Walt-knapping.
Now, how will Sawyer, Jin and Michael survive (because they MUST!)? Well Jin and/or Sawyer have crawled. Oops. Swam under the Others' boat and latched on so they could "follow" them to "safety". Michael, who was too far from their boat, will float on the remaining raft. Where he floats to, I'm not sure. But this is my story and I'm sticking to it. Until I change my mind. ;D

Heavy coats & jackets / snowing or sleeting? Any possible tie in with polar bears on the island? I think the boat, gasoline, clothes & current speech patterns all point to the others being in frequent contact with the outside world. As far as the way they look? Sorry but they looked fairly normal to me for being out at sea on a small boat miles from any large city.

In the South Pacific, where the temperature is a pretty steady 80 degrees? Dressed a little warmly I think.

LOL I meant the people looked normal for the situation, not their choice of tropical attire. Suits would have been out of place so I expected their working clothes to look scruffy. The obvious disconnect between their tropical location and their cold weather attire is what I find similar to the polar bears being on the island. I thought the polar bears (excluding the awful CGI one) looked normal for polar bears too which doesn't mean I thought they looked as if they belonged in the tropics.

The Gorton's fisherman's guy look a little gray to me. And his eyes were funny. I wouldn't get on a boat with him. ;D
