View Full Version : Silenced pistols, grenades... the others have an arsenal!
Vertical 05-27-2005, 09:34 AM Did I see/hear correctly - did Sawyer get shot with a silenced pistol? It sounded like one, to me... although I could be wrong.
And was that a grenade attached to the jar of gasoline thrown aboard the raft?
Where are these guys getting this weaponry?
billm75 05-27-2005, 09:38 AM The gun did sound muffled - a silencer would make sense.
Regarding the jar? I think that was just some kind of weight or something designed to break the jar when it was thrown. Again, I'm not sure, but it didn't look like a grenade to me.
Vertical 05-27-2005, 09:40 AM Oh, I'm pretty sure it's a grenade... I've taken several screenshots:

boo_boo_cat 05-27-2005, 09:48 AM If it's a grenade what is the point of the jar (which I thought was filled with some type of flammable liquid - molotov cocktail kind of thing)?
Vertical 05-27-2005, 09:52 AM To ensure the raft will completely burn, I assume. Having a grenade go off (especially if it's just a 'flashbang' kind of grenade, which it looked to be, based on the 'explosion') wouldn't completely destroy the raft, but using the explosion to spread and ignite an accelerant all over the bamboo would guarantee the raft would not survive.
boo_boo_cat 05-27-2005, 09:56 AM Gotcha - thanks. I couldn't tell if it was a grenade or not but your screencap shows it more clearly!
EAZYJ 05-27-2005, 09:57 AM Why would someone attach a grenade to a jar?
Wouldnt they just throw the grenade....lol
looked like some sort of improvised explosive device
And I thought I heard a gun shot besides sawyer's, but I could be wrong.
billm75 05-27-2005, 10:02 AM Your screencap is good, but it still doesn't convince me that it's a grenade...you can only see bits of it.
I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm not saying I'm wrong. I'm just saying.....
Vertical 05-27-2005, 10:03 AM Two shots were fired - the first coming from one of the goon-twins (I shall call them the goonies), and the second coming from Sawyer's pistol. The first shot from the goonie seemed silenced.
Re: why not just throw the grenade - read my post above. If it was a 'flashbang', it would do no damage to the raft itself, which is why a jar full of accelerant would be needed.
EDIT: Regarding the screencap - yeah, it's not that clear with just that single cap, but I have the whole sequence of them (Unfortunately I didn't upload them all), and when you see it rolling around, you really get an idea of shape, dimension, texture, etc., and it looks like a grenade (of some sort) to me.
Besides, it kind of has to be, doesn't it? The jar doesn't break, so whatever is taped to it has an internal fuse (we don't see an external one), and it explodes... sounds like a grenade to me. But, like I said, since it isn't a HUGE explosion, and it has a very similar explosion to a flashbang, I'm guessing that's what it was...
EAZYJ 05-27-2005, 10:07 AM Sawyer waited a second too long....i kept thinking while the "others" were talking , that sawyer should just shoot them already.....if only he would of tried it faster.
I know they had more guns, and probably would of got a shot off anyway, but at least he would of killed one of those bastards...and maybe they wouldnt of gotten Walt so easily, if at all.

I dunno....could have been a blast cap rather than a grenade. (I'm going to assume the flashbang that you mention is a similar device) Either way, you're right about no external fuse and that the jar didn't break on impact. Hmmm.......
Vertical 05-27-2005, 10:15 AM I'm not familiar with a blast cap. I'll google it.
A flashbang is a device used by the military which looks (and functions) similar to a grenade, but instead of exploding and sending shrapnel out, it simply is used to blind and stun - it's extremely bright and hot... it would certainly break the jar and ignite the fuel...
billm75 05-27-2005, 10:17 AM A blasting cap is something used to ignite a larger explosive.
Muzzle loader guns use them to ignite gun powder. When the hammer hits the cap it sparks and causes combustion of the powder.
Blast caps are also used for much larger explosives, like dynamite, in some situations by demolition and excavation crews.
Vertical 05-27-2005, 10:24 AM OK, that makes sense. But if it was a true blasting cap, what would have set it off? The impact with the raft didn't do it - it sat on the raft for a second or two before the explosion... Is there a way to remote-detonate a blast cap? Would it have to be wired, or do they have internal fuses also?
billm75 05-27-2005, 10:46 AM Again, I'm not certain, it's just a thought.
Could be triggered the same way a land mine is. Pressure switch?
I dunno.....I just don't see a grenade in the pics. LOL
