View Full Version : I'm interested in seeing character reactions after this episode...

I don't know about anyone else, but the thing I'm interested in (more than what the buried metal is, more than the others, etc.) is seeing character reactions to Charlie's 'death' in the next episode. Claire probably had to see him get hung, after all -- if she survives all this I hope the people who make the show go in depth about that.

So, how do you all think other characters will be affected by Charlie's death? It seems to be the first real proof that someone on the island is 'evil'. Before it was always monsters, dreams, etc. I think this'll have pretty fascinating consequences.

(First post, btw :) Hope this is the right place, and hi all)

Welcome, I'm a newb myself, but everyone has been really cool! Way better than the ABC boards!

I think that the people on the island will definitely be more on guard in the upcoming episodes, suddenly the psuedo-paradise that they have found is becoming much more dark and sinister. I have a feeling that Charlie's character, and Claire's if she lives will never be the same. I hope I'm wrong as I really love both of those characters. There will be a lot less "walking in the jungle" alone I can imagine. It's almost like the Lord of the Flies in a way, we've gotten past the first little bit of.. "Hey cool! We're on an island, and there's no adults! WOOHOO!!" and now we've reached the point where they start to begin arming themselves, it would probably be smart of them to get a bit of weapons if the "others" does in fact become a "they". But then again, do the others actually want them, or was it only Claire they were after as Charlie said... I guess we're just going to have to keep watching to find out. Darn those writers! :)

Cheers!

I'm really interested in seeing how people react to knowing that the are not alone on the island AND that one of them has been kidnapped. Hopefully, this will get them to pull together a little more, since everyone has seemed pretty scattered so far.

I'm pretty sure this will affect the characters greatly, as now the island will be even more dangerous and scary and The Others will be very threatening and I doubt anyone will wander around the jungle by themselves, or even accompanied.
Charlie and Claire will most probably never be the same again. They could, but they'd need high psycological help, and as far as I know they don't have that(yet) on the island.
I also think that Kate, Jack and Charlie will form some kind of strong bond. They already seemed pretty close, they were the first ones that we saw link up in a friendly way(If I remember correctly), but after that, I think their friendship will be different.

If Charlie ever returns to a slightly more 'normal' state, that is. *:-[

I posted this in one of the other boards today, but thought it was interesting. I hope we'll see Charlie come back to his kind of goofy fun loving sort of character, but I fear that he will forever be dark and somewhat frightened. I will say this, I'd hate to see what he would do with Ethan if ever given the opportunity... I think he'll be back though.

One of the writers talked about how Rose would come back in a future episode to talk a character out of a post-traumatic situation, this has got to be Charlie!

Sapphire, I think you are right. This will force them into more of a societal construct as opposed to a bunch of people waiting for rescue. I wonder if it will follow the Lord of the Flies route with 2 different sides fighting each other.

Thanks!* ;D

I could see the survivors splitting up into two groups. I'll assume that the group that branches off would be reacting harshly to one of the leaders, most probably Jack. But instead of just spillting off (giving us way too many groups on the island to keep track of), I think this group will probably join "the others."

But I don't think this will happen for a bit. They need to pull together first before they can be sick of each other.

I kind of wondered why they didn't have someone stay awake as a guard after Claire was attacked, just to be sure. I'm betting they do that now.

I think it will have a polarizing effect - that we'll see a bunch of people moving to the caves, and those that don't move to the caves (if there are some) will look even more like they are their own group - or more seperate. It won't just be the optimists vs. the pragmatists, but the ones who think they should all pull together to protect themselves from the crazies, and the ones who think that perhaps they can't trust the people at the caves and would rather fend for themselves.

I'd personally like to see *everyone* move to the caves and be a big happy family for a while - at least while they're looking for Claire.

Hmm . . . I hadn't thought of it that way. It makes sense though, when people find out that Ethan was hiding among them, that they'd be suspicious of each other. I wonder if people would try to survive by themselves.

I could see Sawyer going off by himself - similar to Sayid going off to map the island.

That spoiler you posted? Sounds like an awesome scene. I shall be looking forward to that one.

I also want to see Charlie make a full recovery as the island goof, but I also hope that he retains a bit of sobriety in the face of danger. Charlie was already just a bit neurotic and jumpy to begin with- now he has a good reason.

ennui re that spoiler.
Charley is a good bet at this point but I would say Charley and Claire are about equal in that possiblility at least until we see what has happened with her.

Well, we have a reaction from a "sort of" character. The Diarist is completely freaked. You have to go read that if you haven't seen it yet.

I agree that things are going to change with the setting up of watches and people being a lot more careful about walking in the jungle. I hope so, anyway. Otherwise, it would be really unrealistic. Not that a jungle with a monster and bears and Others is realistic, but you know what I mean.

I definately think the show will be very much changed from this point on. Maybe even Jin will be more willing to work with the other survivors (btw, I REALLY miss Jin and Sun!). However, I will be very sad if the writers use fewer comic relief lines in the episodes - "I'm not going to the rape caves!" At the very least, I'm sure they'll be playing less golf from this point on...
