View Full Version : Country Folks and City Folks
JohnnyREB1977 06-12-2005, 12:46 PM Okay, so do we have more city folks or country folks here? I's curious for some unfathomable reason.
Okay, I'll get this started. I'm a country boy, born and raised. I worked in town until a couple months ago.
angelharp42 06-12-2005, 01:08 PM Currently, a country girl, living in a farmhouse, working in a teeny tiny one-stoplight town about 35 minutes outside Nashville. Before that, a curious mix of country and city. Born in Omaha, Nebraska (city/country)... raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa (country)... Flint, Michigan (city)... Orlando, Florida (CITY!)... Cleveland, MIssissippi (COUNTRY!)... Oxford, Mississippi (college - doesn't count)... Livingston, Alabama (country)...Memphis, Tennessee (city)...Holly Springs, Mississippi... Greenville, Mississippi (both country-fried)... and finally Fairview, Tennessee (country).
I guess my countries outweigh my cities.
addicted2much 06-12-2005, 01:10 PM *I'm a country girl from Mississippi
JohnnyREB1977 06-12-2005, 01:17 PM angelharp and addicted:
thanks for posting. Dang, angel, you been everywhere!
Countrygirl, who lives in city...
But city Norwegian size, which probably means town...
God's tom 06-12-2005, 02:31 PM I was a country boy up in Indiana, & still am down here in 'Bama!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaa! :smiling:
canuck19girl 06-12-2005, 02:43 PM City girl all the way. ;D
CaraLUVsLOST 06-12-2005, 02:58 PM City girl right here as well! ;D
LostCSIFan 06-12-2005, 03:02 PM thats a little hard for me because where I live is considered a City but if you drive not but two blocks away from my house its Country (Trees EVERYWHERE) so I think its both
slash_vic73 06-12-2005, 05:57 PM Well, I'm a city girl, but I live on the outskirts!
RamessesIX 06-12-2005, 07:20 PM Neither, really, I'm a suburban guy and always have been. If I had to pick, I'm probably more of a city boy.
Aurora10 06-12-2005, 07:25 PM City girl, right here. I could never live in a small town.
PhillyGirl2873 06-12-2005, 07:26 PM I am a city girl, but I do like to go camping and hiking. *I'm just a go with the flow kind of girl. *And I hate that song by the way (Built this City on Rock N Roll *).
Aurora10 06-12-2005, 07:31 PM I have that freakin song in my head and it's really annoying!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!! I'm never gonna finish my homework.
Superman 06-12-2005, 07:32 PM i'm a city guy in both living and working
XxNicholeexX 06-12-2005, 07:33 PM City girl here.
RamessesIX 06-12-2005, 07:36 PM You know that song was voted worst of all time in a VH-1 poll a couple of years ago? *Now I have on a mad loop in my head. *Thank you, ladies. * :P
JohnnyREB1977 06-12-2005, 07:38 PM Sorry y'all! Didn't mean for y'all to have that in your heads all day.
PhillyGirl2873 06-12-2005, 07:39 PM Not our fault. *REB put it in the survey.
Fate_ 06-12-2005, 07:41 PM Um i dont know if im a city or country girl cause I live near to town but it small!
God's tom 06-12-2005, 07:41 PM Does anyone know the difference between a city bed & a country bed?

JohnnyREB1977 06-12-2005, 07:42 PM Does it help at all that I've got "A Country Boy Can Survive" in my head, and have almost all day?
CharlieLuv 06-12-2005, 07:42 PM A city girl at heart. But I guess I could survive in the country.
JohnnyREB1977 06-12-2005, 07:43 PM *winces* that was bad, lonewolf! *:D
PhillyGirl2873 06-12-2005, 07:45 PM Yes. It belongs in the lame jokes thread. ;D
RamessesIX 06-12-2005, 07:49 PM Not our fault. *REB put it in the survey.
I stand corrected, and duly chastised.
PhillyGirl2873 06-12-2005, 07:52 PM Just poking fun. :poking:
God's tom 06-12-2005, 07:56 PM *winces* that was bad, lonewolf! *:D
I've been hearing that joke ever since I moved to 'Bama. Sorry - couldn't resist!
(It wouldn't have had the same effect in lame jokes...it sort of fit in this thread!)
RamessesIX 06-12-2005, 07:57 PM Just poking fun.* *:poking:
Oh, I'm used to it, I can take it and dish it out when the time is right... :poking:
PhillyGirl2873 06-12-2005, 08:04 PM Bring it On ;) Just kidding, you know I'm just a smart a$$
RamessesIX 06-12-2005, 08:07 PM Bring it On* ;)* Just kidding, you know I'm just a smart a$$
Yes, I think I have played 'straight man' to you around the 'lage a few times. ;)
elfdream 06-12-2005, 08:21 PM I was born in the Smokey Mountains in a reservation town. It was small...moved to another small town in Va. I have lived in Greenville SC which is a city...Fitchburg Mass which is a good sized town...Okiyomaton Okinawa which was a pretty good sized village...Tucson Arizona is the largest city I have lived in so far and then I came back to the small town in VA where I grew up.
So right now I'm in a small town..but I live within a hour of DC...so I kind of go back and forth between the two extremes.
notfadeaway 06-12-2005, 09:37 PM I'm a Suburb herb.
AIRHOSTESS 06-13-2005, 02:52 AM I was b/r in a suburb just outside of Los Angeles, but also just outside of the Los Angeles county, so Its kind of country. Literally on the border of LA county (where the San Fernando Valley ends) Most of my jobs have been in the LA area though.
Rock Goddess 06-13-2005, 04:44 AM I'm a city girl. Nature is my enemy - I have horrible allergies (like, to everything green and leafy), and when I was a kid, whenever I had to go visit my grandma who lived in the country, I suffered. So I will never live in the country if I can help it. :lol2: That, and I couldn't survive being more than a 10 min. drive from a mall.
~ RG
Superman 06-13-2005, 04:48 AM ^ i'm the same way, RG... i need commerce!
my roommates are from iowa, and they love the country... they plan on moving back and working there... give me the city or the suburbs any day
Rock Goddess 06-13-2005, 04:57 AM Yeah, I'd be totally screwed on the island...no shopping! :o
My dad grew up in the country, and he always goes on about how great it was. Sure, it's nice to visit, I guess, but give me buildings, shopping complexes, movie theaters, etc. They're necessary, I tell you. :lol2:

miss emme 06-13-2005, 06:17 AM Where l live is considered a city (by population l guess) but its no where near the size of Vancouver. I lived in the country half my life. Theres something about going outside at night and being able to see the stars. And listening to coyotes howl. I was in Vancouver for about two weeks looking for work and did not like it one little bit. No thanks, l like the size of the place where l live. We have the malls and theatres. Good enough for me.
JohnnyREB1977 06-13-2005, 09:15 AM I cannot stand towns/cities. They're nice to visit, but give me the open spaces any day. I go into a town/city and instantly my shoulders and neck tighten up.
miss emme, I know exactly how you feel. I love being able to see the stars. Especially when the Leonides come soaring through in November. But, the coyotes? *lol* I hate'em. Can't they shut up for five minutes?! I think they're the ones that finally ran off my deer.
pug3323 06-13-2005, 12:06 PM I grew up in a small town, went to college in a small town.. and now im back in a small town... sooo, Im a country girl ;D I Could live in a city, I guess... But I really like having all the open space and grass.... plus, I can leave my keys in my car... which is good, because if I take them out, chances are I'll lose them within 5 mins :P
Bess2728 06-13-2005, 12:10 PM Small town raised - country like setting. Lived in cities (and one rural town) since 1994. Live in a small city now. Wish to be in the country - with acres around me. One thing I'd miss though is bakeries! I'm a stay-at-home mom - so I guess I work in the city as well.
BurningStar4 06-13-2005, 02:24 PM City slicker, born and raised....and I built it on Rock N' Roll!
fanofangel 06-13-2005, 03:27 PM Well besides Reb being bored :P I I would say born into sin, come on in. Oh wait, that's the movie quote thread :lol2:. Really, I was born in the city, I live in a small town 30 miles north of Atlanta. Small towns are nice but I will always be a city girl, I guess I like the action.
elfdream 06-13-2005, 07:23 PM Cities scare me. More than bears or snakes. Honestly..and I have lived in one.
No..its not the crime. I'm not sure what it is...

elfdream 06-13-2005, 11:16 PM Awww come on, it's not scary.
Not to you maybe...I just know that when I have to go to one I make my visit as short as possible.. ;)

Oh so you're from the country haha.
lostfan88 06-14-2005, 12:15 AM I live in the 'burbs of Atlanta. My county is currently trying to secede from Atlanta and become it's own city. :lol2: Ah, the joys of living in the South... ;) just kidding
SaraPace 06-14-2005, 03:42 AM I'm a city kid, even tho my city isn't the biggest one (in Canada) have lived in the city my whole life.
But I love nature and I would sacrifice everything city to live in the mountians near a lake :lol2:
miss emme 06-14-2005, 04:02 AM Hey Sara, I vacationed up north a few years ago. (about 26 yrs ago) you sure got some big lakes in Manitoba, and big Jackfish too.

You know what they say, lostfan: Atlanta is a city surrounded by Georgia :lol2:.
I despise that city with a passion that is almost holy in its intensity. Sherman did one good thing in his whole miserable life when he burnt her to the ground.
God's tom 06-14-2005, 01:05 PM That's how I feel about Oneonta, Alabama!

My brother is a southerner as well and he says Shermen (and Sheridan) should have burned MORE of the south.... :o
JohnnyREB1977 06-14-2005, 04:12 PM Now, that I don't agree with. But, there are certain areas that definitely need a good cleansing. Howver, that'd get us into a whole political debate I don't wanna pollute the board with :lol2:.
lostfan88 06-14-2005, 11:39 PM :lol2:
sawyergirl2 06-14-2005, 11:42 PM Country girl from North Carolina... even the cities around here aren't cities, which is fine with me.... i like the nice open spaces ;D

Oh yeah for sure. We have lakes comming out of everywere in Manitoba  Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg are the biggest one's tho

I love cities. To me they energize me. I feel so awake and alive in the city. I would love to live in NYC (manhattan) for a little while at least, but I would want to do it the right way, with money. :lol2: I grew up in Philly when I was a kid and moved to the burbs (Jersey) when I was 12. I'm a city girl again, but there's no city in the world like New York. You gotta love it!
elfdream 06-15-2005, 01:12 PM I love cities.* To me they energize me.* I feel so awake and alive in the city.* I would love to live in NYC (manhattan) for a little while at least, but I would want to do it the right way, with money.* *:lol2:* I grew up in Philly when I was a kid and moved to the burbs (Jersey) when I was 12.* I'm a city girl again, but there's no city in the world like New York.* You gotta love it!
I'm less that five hours away by car and I've never been there....really have no interest in going.
PhillyGirl2873 06-15-2005, 01:14 PM That's like my dad (step-dad, really). He grew up in Philly, but hates cities. Especially NYC.
JohnnyREB1977 06-15-2005, 02:12 PM This thread's got pretty interesting. Thanks for posting y'all!
The only city I can honestly say I like is Savannah. It's falling into some disrepair in areas now. There's a more visible gang element, and the crime has been bad for years (though not as bad as other cities I don't think). But, aside from those problems (minor at the moment to me) it's still the most beautiful city in the South and there is so much history there. I don't get to go half as much as I'd like.
Other than that, I would like to visit each State Capitol in the thirteen Southern States -- and maybe Washington someday, just to slap some of those idjits up there.

Smack 'em one for me. And give Boston a try someday - you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's got class, charm, culture, and great steak.
elfdream 06-15-2005, 02:27 PM Now I did like Boston but just to visit. We used to go there quite a bit when hubbie was stationed at Ft. Devons. However I still don't think I would actually like to live there...

Great steak? Looking for tickets right now.
Bess2728 06-15-2005, 02:39 PM hey RamessesIX - lived in Somerville for a couple of years. Where are you thinking of great steak?
RamessesIX 06-15-2005, 02:52 PM hey RamessesIX - lived in Somerville for a couple of years.* Where are you thinking of great steak?
My favorite's probably Fleming's in the Theater District. Great food, great atmosphere, and absolutely first-class service. They ask you when you make your reservation if it's a special occasion or anything going on. We went there before Grease a year or two ago and on our way out, every employee we passed said, "Thanks for coming, enjoy the show!" I also like Plaza III in Quincy Market and the Capital Grille, although we've been to the Brookline location, not yet the Boston location. We went there recently, before Phantom, and the food was mouth-watering, my only complaint was that the tables were a little too close together. Nefertiti, seated against the wall, would have had to ask someone to move to get up and go to the ladies' room.
There are several others that are supposed to be good, but that I've not been to yet, so absence from my list is not necessarily a thumbs-down!
Bess2728 06-15-2005, 02:59 PM It's not steak - but check out Redbones in Davis Square - it's a BBQ place.* Also, I loved Ma Bartley's Burger Cottage in Cambridge - you may not like it there - b/c it's very crowded and close.* Both of those places are VERY casual. *Check out the Elephant Walk, if you have not done so already.* More of a place to eat before a show.

Thanks for the tips, Bess! I think I may have been to Redbones, is that the place where it's always crowded and you sit at big long tables? I might be thinking of something else. Never heard of the Elephant Walk, I'll have to look that one up! I don't venture into Cambridge / Somerville too often - people say Boston's hard to drive in but those towns are impossible. But, now and then I do find myself there and it is always good to know where to eat. :-)
Maddie C 06-16-2005, 09:54 PM Me, I'm neither a country girl, nor a city girl. I live in the Suburbs :) It's fun though, because whenever we go downtown (to Chicago) we'll get people who will ask us where we're from, and when we tell them they're like "Ahh...you live out in the country." and then when we go out to the country, people tell us we're from the city.
fanofangel 06-16-2005, 10:31 PM I live in the 'burbs of Atlanta. My county is currently trying to secede from Atlanta and become it's own city. :lol2: Ah, the joys of living in the South... ;) just kidding
Hey lostfan nice to see a fellow Atlantan. I'm from the county just northwest of you.
GettinLost 06-24-2005, 07:09 PM Does anyone know the difference between a city bed & a country bed?
A city bed has a canopy over it.
A country bed has a can o pee under it!
 :lol2:    :jump1: :jump: :roflmao:
BOOOOOOOO lonewolf!!! :lol2:
I heard one similar to that...
A teacher friend used to make fun of this girl in school who had a real SOUTHERN accent. He would make fun of her accent by spelling out what she was saying on the blackboard!!! Like "yes" would be spelt "yeh-yus" or "stop" would be spelt "stah-op". :lol2:
One day we were taking about pecans. And she called them "pee-cans". He said, "Pee-can"? "Isn't that something you put under your bed at night"?? *rimshot, please* ;D
I am from a small town so really that's living in the city and in the country and working both ways too! Currently I live in town and work in town. I can't say it's really the CITY because that would imply a lot more... And it ain't (a lot more, that is!)!
God's tom 06-25-2005, 05:54 AM Ha!
It drives my mother in law crazy that I still say pee - cans!
;D
JohnnyREB1977 06-25-2005, 09:27 AM Ha!
It drives my mother in law crazy that I still say pee - cans!
That's what they are . Ain't no such thing as Puh-Khans ::)
Sassy Lassie 06-25-2005, 02:48 PM I live in the Backwoods of Alabama. The biggest city I've ever seen is probably Birmingham!
Born and raised here in Atlanta - guess that makes me a southern city girl. ;)
Tobacco-spitting, Beam-drinking country boy here. Tain't nothing wrong with it.
As mentioned above, Basstun's a decent place. Too bad the drivers there are effing insane.
LindaBB 07-25-2005, 04:31 AM I'm so spoiled to living in Eureka Springs, Ark, that I get an anxiety attack in towns with traffic lights!!
:lol2:

Where are you DR? Love the Ozarks...nothing quite like them!
Charlie-Survivor 07-25-2005, 01:20 PM I'm city through and through. Kansas City that is :lol2:
JohnnyREB1977 07-25-2005, 01:26 PM Man, am I surprised to see this resurrected from the Abyss . It's kinda cool, almost half city folks/half country. Probably would be a bit more spaced out if I'd had enough sense to put a suburban section.
