Check this out:

Tabula Rasa:

1.
a. The mind before it receives the impressions gained from experience.
b. The unformed, featureless mind in the philosophy of John Locke.

2. A need or an opportunity to start from the beginning.

Otherwise known as blank slate...and it's Latin. Not Spanish.

Spanish IS one of the Latin languages, thus the similarity.

whenever i hear "tabula rasa" i giggle cuz in high school i had this social studies teacher with a couple weird social studies teacher friends, and one random day, they walked in right in the middle of class. one had "tabula" written on a piece of paper taped to his back. he commenced washing all my teacher's lecture notes from the board. the second one had "rasa" taped to his back. he had a wet./dry vac and blow dried the board after "tabula" washed it with a wet sponge. the vacuum blew papers and posters and newspaper clippings everywhere. neither one said a word while they did it, then just walked out of the classroom. so, to tie it in to lost ( ::) ), i think the spontinaity exhibited by these two teachers is similar to the whim of the island, screwing up plans for inexplicable reasons.
