Does anyone know what the device on Locke's nightstand is? It has a display screen that he turns off when he's talking to Helen.

For anyone interested here goes: It has been confirmed as a TENS machine, or as they call it a Electric Muscle Stimulation device. ETA Sorry I forgot to state its purpose. Generally they are used during physiotherapy to cause strong but controlled muscle contractions during initial recovery before you are able to do weights by placing electrodes at both ends of a muscle. I've heard of it used for pain control as well, concievably he'd have it on his neck/back. There is some research that mild electric pulses can speed healing (possibly of nerves). Its possible there are other uses as well. Thought the cap might be interesting. April Sam G 06-23-2005, 02:03 PM If you are really interested the TENS machine, it has been discussed in many threads. If you do an advanced search you can find what has been said. We talked about it alot in N.E.R.D.S. but it was so long ago a search will take you right to the message. KJones_usa 06-23-2005, 05:53 PM This was my first time seeing this ep so thanks for letting me know about what that thing was. I think the director was hinting during the entire episode that Locke was paralyzed without saying it until the end. chico2323 06-25-2005, 10:34 PM is this the ''same'' machine that some folks are calling a Geiger counter? or is there on other machine on the night stand? my tape stopped 1/2 way through the show...so I can't re watch and see for myself :-\ waltisfuture 06-25-2005, 10:55 PM is this the ''same'' machine that some folks are calling a Geiger counter? or is there on other machine on the night stand? my tape stopped 1/2 way through the show...so I can't re watch and see for myself :-\ Good question. I was under the impression that it was two different items too. Sam G 06-26-2005, 01:40 AM 2 different machines. The TENS unit is by Locke's bed and it is used to stimulate muscles. They use it in physical therapy. The geiger counter is on the table whe they do the wide shot of Locke's room, there is a kitchen table with many things on it ant the geiger counter is there and yellow. shootfire 06-26-2005, 08:42 PM TabbyRasa, it's a flag.
