View Full Version : Do you have a Celebrity connection?
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 01:54 AM Some of us have had the pleasure/displeasure of working with celebs. Some of us have had once chance encounter with one awsome celeb. Here's a place to tell your stories...
My first and favorite was when I was in high school, I sang for a choir and a few of us, would pick up our own side gigs. One Christmas Eve we got a call from a local country club to sing for their midnight dinner. When we got there we were escorted into the board room to warm up. In there were pictures of the board members, one of them was super cool Tom Sellek!
Then we were escorted into the dining hall, it was one of the smallest audiences I've had... There were only two big families there. One gentleman in the back caught our attention immediatley, because he was wearing sunglasses...inside...at midnight. He was the only one paying any attention to us, he swayed along to the music and eventually got up and started to come towards us..of course we knew exactly who he was and I thought my friend was going to wet his pants when he walked by and patted him on the shoulder..on his way to the dessert table. It was none other than Jack Nickelson! He is so awesome, I have always been such a big fan and I still am, it was probably one of the best Christmas eve's I have even spent!
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:01 AM I have a few encounters with celebrities. I used to work in a year-round christmas store in the 90's and a few celebrities came in there, including Ray Liotta, Sean Connery, the women who played Wonder Woman, Billy Connelly, Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall and Tim Conway. I met Gordie Howe one time at a gas station. He was so nice. And one time in Vancouver, way back in the 80's, I met Richie Sambora and Tico Torres of Bon Jovi when they were making the New Jersey album.
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:05 AM Hey that's cool! I Love Dave Foley!!! I was actually in a Bon Jovi Video... if you pause it and look really really close with a magnifying glass, you can see my shoe! :lol2: :roflmao: :lol2: :roflmao:
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:06 AM which video? and which part of it?
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:11 AM Lets see...it was taped at a concert here in LA, where he runs out on the catwalk, then they pan the audience...jeez why can't I remember the name of it...
That was my very first concert...Skid Row opened for them and it was before people here even knew who Skid Row was...
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:12 AM The video is probably "lay your hands on me".
I saw them on the Slippery When Wet tour when Cinderella opened for them. Have I just totally aged myself? ;D
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:13 AM That's the one.
Yeah no kidding about aging ourselves! Hair bands kicked *** didn't they?!
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:15 AM Yeah, they so totally did. I wish I still had my concert t-shirts from back then. Actually at the end of August I am going to see Def Leppard. I can't wait. Should I get a special mullet for the occasion? ;D
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:18 AM Since I work in retail, in the LA area I get to meet celebs and even sell goods for the TV shows that sre filmed inthe area, *just today I helped someone for the OC, I was just disappointed it wasn't for LOST, but I've seen our stuff on the show, so I remain hopeful *Anyways, sometimes, they're not very nice, and sometimes they're super cool. *Robert Picardo was one of the nicest! *He was the coach on the Wonder Years and he played the Cowboy in Innerspace...among many other great roles! *
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:19 AM Yeah, they so totally did.* I wish I still had my concert t-shirts from back then.* Actually at the end of August I am going to see Def Leppard.* I can't wait.* *Should I get a special mullet for the occasion?* *;D
Oooh Def Lep I am SOOOO jealous :punk:
I miss GNR.. I saw them open for the Stones in '89...they rocked!
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:21 AM yeah, it should be a good concert. Hoping to crash the stage ;D

canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:29 AM I don't know if she is coming on here tonight or not. She had a pretty rough day in class today.
AIRHOSTESS 06-28-2005, 02:30 AM Aw too bad, I hope she has a better evening. We had a couple of nice chats last night. I'm getting ready to turn in myself tonight! Tell her I hope tomorrow is better :) Have a good one canuck!
canuck19girl 06-28-2005, 02:31 AM Have a good night Airhostess. Nice talking to you. See you later
BurningStar4 06-28-2005, 02:39 AM I saw someone mention Skid Row :lol2: I actually had Sebastian Bach (the lead singer) grind on my leg when he was in Rocky Horror Picture Show a couple years ago. Then he kissed me on the cheek, he was pretty hot too for an 80's acid rocker.
I've met a lot of celebrities, but I think my favorite was when I met Al Pacino and he hugged me. He was so sweet and so cool, plus he looked 15 years younger in person which was just amazing. But the best was running home to go rub it in my Mother's face since she loves him :P :lol2:
Mads13 06-28-2005, 02:44 AM oooh oooh.....got one
years ago....I was in a Chicago hospital with my mom and sister...I don't remember who we were visiting
we got into an elevator....when the doors were closing, Jim Belusci walked towards us
my sister held the door and asked if he was going down
he said he was going up to the seventh floor
slash_vic73 06-28-2005, 04:10 AM yeah, it should be a good concert.* Hoping to crash the stage* *;D
Don't you dare ya little brat, I do not want to have to restrain you!!! (Why did I buy her the ticket..WHY, WHY, WHY).
I've met a few people thanks to a celeb golf tourny we have up here: Pam Anderson (my hubby was so happy), Keifer Sutherland, Chris Judd, Kevin Sorbo, Cheech, Cam Neely, Russ and Jeff Courtnall, Kirk McLean, etc. The Vancouver Canucks held their training camp here one year too, and had a BBQ, so I met the entire 1994 (Stanley Cup run) team, Trevor Linden, Pavel Bure, Petr Nedved, etc, etc.
I also met a Canadian rocker names Kim Mitchell, don't know if anyone knows him!
miss emme 06-28-2005, 04:22 AM fellow canuck girl here. l know who Kim Mitchell is...'just doin' my rock n roll duty'
slash_vic73 06-28-2005, 04:41 AM Yay! I won tickets to his "Rockland Wonderland" concert tour, I had to bring a big rock to a contest site. I lost the rock contest, but won the grand prize: Limo, tickets, backstage passes, etc, etc. we got to meet the whole group, great guys! I still have my pics somewhere, too funny!
JohnnyREB1977 06-28-2005, 10:42 AM I've met Sterling Sharpe, back in middle school. He came to talk at my school and I got him to sign a trading card. Eh, it was okay. He's kind of arrogant, in my opinion. His brother's nicer (they were born and raised in a neighboring county -- like 30 minutes away, probably less).
I've met H.K. Edgerton, he's a Black man from North Carolina and a Southern Heritage activist. THAT was the highlight of my life, literally. My folks and I were at my Camp's annual Lee/Jackson Banquet and Mr. Edgerton was the guest speaker. He was moving around, talking to everyone, working the room and he saw me. He made a B-line right to me, shook my hand and my father's and hugged my mother. I got him to sign the brochure for the Banquet and a letter he wrote to President Bush after the '04 election. If every person in this world had the same courage of conviction that Mr. H.K. Edgerton does, this world would be a far better place.
I also know, vaguely, Senator Jack Hill and I'm on pretty good speaking terms with Dal Canady, a reporter for WTOC11 news out of Savannah. He did an interview with me when I was younger and he worked for the Claxton Enterprise, the local paper.
None of these people are Tom Cruise celebrities, but they're pretty high up their locally and in the South -- with the exception of Sterling, who I think any football fan knows.
wednesd777 06-28-2005, 12:51 PM I met and had my picture taken with Shannon Doherty back in the day when she was on Our House...like a million years ago. I also went to a party of a friends girlfriend who is a movie director and Natasha Lyonne was there so I got to chit chat with her for a while.
morning_glory 06-28-2005, 01:44 PM I've met Tori Amos, The Indigo Girls, James Marsters and in Aug I will be spending a day with Bruce Campbell :)
Sam G 06-28-2005, 01:50 PM I know Scott Paulin who played "The Rash Guy", His Wife Wendy Phillips and an English Actress Sammi Davis
makemelaugh 06-28-2005, 03:15 PM I've met country singer Billy Dean. My dad knew his uncle for 50 years, and he used to see Billy around when he was a kid. He was so gorgeous in person that it was hard not to stare at him.
My brother's best friend Rich Turner tried to be an actor for awhile. He was in Reservoir Dogs, and his voice is in Pulp Fiction but he got completely cut out. He went to an acting school with Quentin Tarantino, and was the only person who would give him a ride home because everybody thought Quentin was weird. He couldn't afford a car so Rich felt sorry for him - they were friends until Pulp Fiction hit the big time, then Quentin got new and improved friends.
sawyergirl2 06-28-2005, 06:48 PM Worked at the same Y as Clay Aiken, he was there while I worked there and even sang at one of our employee meetings, but didn't really know him b/c he worked in a different part...also went to the same school at me, but before I was there. And my high school teacher knew a bunch of famous people b/c her cousin was some famous 80's music person..she was always getting tickets and going off to some concert for the weekend.
God's tom 06-28-2005, 07:59 PM The closest I've come is when Terry O'quinn read my post & responded.
He called me "Lupo"! (Thanks, Terry - coolest nickname ever!)
:jump1:
car88win 06-28-2005, 08:03 PM Not really a celebrity, but I went to high school with Browning Nagle. He was the QB for the Jets from 91-93, then Colts in 94 and then the Falcons in 95-96. That's it as far as I know.
AIRHOSTESS 06-29-2005, 01:09 AM ANyone remember Goober from The Andy Griffith Show? He was Gomers cousin...
I dated his son a couple times :)
I also met Debbie Reynold one, spent some time with her one evening...all I can say is that in the Movie Post Cards from the Edge, Shirley MacLaine played her PERFECTLY!!!
morning_glory 06-29-2005, 09:36 AM My dad just went out to Ca, last week to play golf at Pebble, and while he was there he traveled to San Fran and was at a Jazz/Blues bar and he went outside to have a cigar and this man came up to him and asked if the seat was taken, dad said no the guy sat down introduced himself as Steven and my dad gave him his name and they sat and talked for about 30-45mins(had a drink and a cigar together) and then the guy got up and said "oh i'm sorry I didn't get your last name" my dad told him what it was and said the same to him and the guy said "Speilberg". My dad sat and talked with Steven Speilberg and had NO CLUE who it was until he told him his last name!!! :head-wall:
When he got home and told me I pulled up a pic of Speilberg and said "Is this is man you met" and dad said "Yeah thats him, he was really nice, incredibly down to earth"
LockeLove 06-29-2005, 01:31 PM Ray Liotta graduated from my H.S. About 10 years or so ago he came for his induction ceremony into our hall of fame. I wasn't there (because I was still in middle school) but I heard he came to our school high, drunk or a combination of those.
Robert Wuhl (Arliss) graduated from my H.S. too and was inducted into our school's Hall of Fame. I didn't really meet him but I was in his vicinity since I was in yearbook I had to be present at the "after party." The one in our library...HA!
I also met David Copperfield when he was mostly doing shows in Atlantic City. I got his autograph and had my picture taken with him.
I also met Jim McGreevey when he was just a mayor. He expected me to know who he was. I was an employee in a store and never had a desire to learn about politics. From that day on I didn't like him!
And if you couldn't tell.. I'm from Jersey. All Jersey celebrities!
lostfan88 06-29-2005, 09:12 PM My cousin's best friend is Scott Rolen, third baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals.
And I met one of the pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean -- the bald one -- so I have a connection to Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. woo hoo!
I've met Mandy Moore and several Braves players (Javy Lopez, Kyle Davies, Andruw Jones, Johnny Estrada, John Smoltz - who's son actually went to my school, etc).
StarfireKC 06-30-2005, 10:38 AM My brother is a musician, and when he recorded his album he had Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees) play on one of the songs, and Cindy Lauper sang backup on another.

AIRHOSTESS 07-01-2005, 01:47 AM I just saw Sideways for the first time yesterday and there was a girl in it who played a waitress (towards the end of the movie) she hooks up with Lowell (the guy from WINGS, I totally can't think of his name right now) and they get caught by her husband...anyways, I worked with her on a community theater show like 10 years ago, it was so funny to see her, then I saw a LOT more of her than I ever thought I would. Great for her that she's working, she's a very talented actress ;D
AIRHOSTESS 07-03-2005, 04:06 AM whatever works ;)
JohnnyREB1977 07-03-2005, 09:47 AM Somehow related to John Adams and John Qunicy Adams. Does that count?
stircrazy, that definitely counts in my book! Take pride in that connection.
Sam G 07-04-2005, 07:11 PM I have something that may be better than a celebrity connection. Someone who is going to be a celebrity connection. Or friend Brian Herzlinger made a movie that won a bunch of awards at film festivals and is going to be released in theaters August 5th. He was being interviewed by ET last week and hopefully it will be on this week. . Trailers are going to start being shown this week at the movie theaters. I was lucky enough to see the film at it's first screening and screened it at our house twice. It's really a cool summer film. Check out.

They look really surprised.) My mom had alot when she was young. She met alot of celebrities (of yesteryear) because my grandfather was the vice pres. of Standard Oil of the Real Estate (in California - later just in San Francisco). My grandfather was also the athletic director for Harold Lloyd. My aunt worked for the Westmores of Hollywood (doing makeup). elfdream 07-05-2005, 06:22 PM My husband was once the driver of the late Jack Kent Cooke. Former owner of the Washington Redskins. We lived on his farm in Middleburg VA and famous people were always coming and going. Mostly sports people though...my husband so did not care. That was one of the reasons he got the job. We would be watching tv and he would point to a random news person or whatever and say "I met her last week. Picked her up at the airport for Mr. Cooke'
Once the then Vice President Dan Quayle sat in Mr. Cooke's box at during a game. He borrowed Mr. Cooke's binoculors. My husband had the task of going up to the Vice President of the United States and saying .."Excuse me but Mr. Cooke would like his glasses back!'
Another time when he was in the sky box he bent down to tie his shoe and when he straightened up again he was staring up at the Rev. Jesse Jackson... ;)
