We have the most percious little cat in the whole world. Her name is Melinda(we also call her Wee Pea, Kibblet and Princess). She is a 7lb black jewel. We figure she is 15 right now, but she acts like a cat of 5. :) She had been showing signs of something wrong with her the last 2 weeks. I took her in today because of her increased water intake and potty box visits, which are NOT her usual MO. Our vet said tests show her kidney is weekening. This is just shattering my heart. :'( I have been through the 7th Circle of Hell in the last 3 and 1/2 years with pet health disasters. We had a male cat named Twin that was about 3 years older than Melinda. He had been getting weak and drinking water like there was no tomorrow. He had diabetes. :( We gave him a couple more years of life with all the treatments of insulin shots once a day and check-ups to monitor his condidtion. We had to put him to rest June of last year. :'(

About 6 months after Twin had been diagnosed, our dog Mandy(a standard dachsund mix with some miniture pincher, 35-40 lbs)started to show some of the same signs that Twin did. I took Mandy in and found out she had diabetes too. :( The vet was shocked because she had never seen 2 pets in the same household come down with diabetes at the same time. We gave her the same treatment as Twin, yet because her's was more advanced with keytons in her urine, she had to get shots twice a day. We lost her in January of this year. :'(

Now we have our Princess in ill health. I swear I will mentally check out if she goes this year. I cant take it any more. :( She has to be at the vets until Thursday to receive fluid IV treatments and then will need daily subcutainous fluid shots for about 2 weeks after that. I am hoping that the diety I am having convo's with about her will make her get better. The vet said we caught it early and is hopeful. We just want her back with us and in good health. I am gonna be toast for the next 2 weeks, but am hopeful that she will be okay. :unhappy:

You know the first dog I ever owned was named Princess. She was a Spitz. I hope everything turns out ok for you.

My thoughts are with you krazy and with Melinda. I've lost a couple of kitties to failing kidneys because I didn't catch it in time.
I live in the country and my biggest problem is with coyotes. I've lost several special kitties over the last two years- the coyotes seem to know which ones they are. Last year I lost a kitty I had bottle fed and he still insisted on being held and cuddled at over a year old. He would grab me with his paw when I walked by him and then would snuggle into my neck and hold on very tightly if I tried to put him down. His name was Simba and he had long orange hair. One day he just disappeared.....

I hope all goes well- please let us know.

I hope your cat improves...I love cats, and have not lived a day without at least one cat as a pet. Two of my cats died a few months ago. Technically one belonged to a relative, but I spent a lot of time with the cat so it sucked when he died. I really hope yours gets better.

Thanks guys. This has been a blow for me today. I thought I was just gonna be told that she was bored or needed to have her food changed. I was just numb when the vet was talking to me. I was so glad my hubby got off a little early today so he could come to the vet and help me make the choices for her. Our 10 year old daughter was with me and it was hard to look at her and have to discuss the info with the vet. She is taking this hard too. I hope she will get better, she has to! :(

I'm very sorry to hear about your kitties. We lost a family cat to hyperthyroidism nearly 8 years ago. She just stopped eating one day and after 3 days we had her diagnosed. Sometimes their signals are so subtle It is tough to know what to do. Our cat was 15 and fighting but the disease was stronger than she was. She was like my sister from 7 to 21. Pets become family and don't let anyone make you feel bad for thinking of them that way. My thoughts will be with you. Remember animals are more in tune to things around them then we are. She will let you know what needs to be done.

Hi Krazy -

Sorry to hear about your cat. I can only imagine how hard that must be. I had a cocker spaniel for 9 years before we had to put her to sleep after she got cancer for the 4th time. My daughter who was almost 4 at the time still hasn't fully gotten over it so I know your daughter is probably having a hard time.

Hang in there. Hopefully all will improve and Princess will be okay!!

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. I hope she returns in good health as well. But even if she doesn't, just know that if the worst comes, she is at peace in death, as are the rest of your pets. Try to feel a little better, but I know how hard it is to lose something or someone you love.

We went to see her today. The vet said she is doing well, but she slept most of the day. She has an IV drip with fluids in her so we could not pick her up. She was VERY happy to see us, but she was sad when we had to leave her there. The vet is hopeful and I am just going into a kind of "numb" mode to set myself up just in case. :( I am glad that she looked fine. I just want this horrible nightmare to end with her being the precious princess she is.

Well, we will be bringing Melinda home tomorrow. I hope she will be fine. We cant go she her today like we did yesterday because the vet is closed every Wednesday. The vet and her tech will be going in to check on her a few times today though, she wont be left alone the whole day. They need to check the IV and they have another cat that is recouping as well. I miss like nuts. :( I cross my fingures in hope.

It's been an exhausting day, so I will give a short update here. We brought Melinda home today after 3 days away. She seems to be doing better and has been able to eat more food than before she went into the vet. We will have to give her subcutanious fluid shots under her skin for the next 10 days and then the vet will asess what we need to do fron there. Some ats do alright enough with the vet stay and shots at home directly after. We are by no means out of the woods yet. However, we keep being told that we have caught this very early, so the vet is optimistic. We are very hopeful that this will work. It has to.

I thank all of you for your supportive posts. It did indeed help to get through the last few days. :)

AWW Krazy, I'm so sorry to hear of your kittys predicament. I hope all is well, just remember no matter what she will always be "the precious princess she is."
**hugs**

I have a dach too and he is my little guy, not too long ago he went paralysed for a couple of days (he has a malformed back leg that hurts him sometimes) and we thought for a little bit that this might be it for him, and he's still a baby, I was so hurt. I can only imagine what you and your family might be going through right now. **sending good vibes**

Melinda seems to be doing fine this morning. We will be giving her her first treatment tonight and I hope all goes well. Both of us will need to do this unlike when one of (mostly me)gave the other 2 the shots for diabetes. One of us will need to hold her, while the other gives her the IV treatment. Wish us luck! :-\

hey krazy - hope the treatment went well for your kitty. It's not fun having to give pets medicine much less if it will hurt at all. Is the kitty doing better?

Have a safe and Happy 4th!!
