From the diary
Day 7
Joanna drowned today, she's someone i went diving with in Australia and she ended up on my plane. She even switched seats so we could sit together and talk about the trip. she was traveling the coast diving the Great Barrier Reef.
it just doesnt make sense, she was smarter than that- she knew about the rip tides and how to swim parallel to the beach.
(wonder why writer did not try and aid her?)
I think she saw something and was either pulled under and drowned or captured
I think captured because because the others would be needing females going on WatershipDown premise.

The diary writer also talked about seeing a "whale" while swimming, or at least she thought. I am guessing it was not a whale, I think there is something in the water as well.

Let's see ::) There has been two shark attacks in a week at the Great Barrier Reef. Could it be that?

possible.
I think though more would have been made of it if it were part of the story line. Like the shark circling for drama effect.

So, do the diaries have to do with the show? Or is it just people doing a fanfic kinda thing? Guess I am confused about that.

The diary is on the official ABC boards written by the assistants to the writers.

I also think that Joanna didn't drown but was taken by the "others". That was no whale that the diary writer saw, IMO.

I've managed to convince myself that the "others" have created an underwater habitat. I've also managed to convince myself that Joanna was pregnant, that's why she was taken. She evidently wasn't far enough along for the diary writer to have noticed; perhaps Joanna's pregnancy was so new that she didn't even know she was pregnant herself. But the "others" sensed it and abducted her.

but why would "the others" only want pregnant women? maybe they're trying to make up for the loss (or supposed loss) of Alex? But then again, how could joanna have been pregnant because if you're going to go diving on like a professional thing don't you have o take a physical? she would have found out she was pregnant. And she probably would have told the diary writer.

Yet another connection of characters in the outside world before they boarded the plane. So Now we've Seen Sayid with Sun and Jin, Sawyer with Jack's dad, Hurley on the TV, and Sawyer in the police station with Sawyer. And obviously Sun & Jin and Shannon & Boone :lol2:

You probably wouldn't go scuba dive when/if you are pregnant....

However, I also thought about the mentioning of the whale, interesting!!!

Maybe the ear infection was an excuse. She could have found out she was pregnant in Australia.

Also, remember that Ethan came in from the water when he {or whoever else} killed Scott. This makes me think the other people on the island are very friendly with the ocean, and getting around in it. And perhaps the hatch is related, somehow. Perhaps it involves some sort of tunnel under the ocean. I am rambling now.

My question is why would they give a name to a random character who ended up drowning?
Does Joanna have any additional significance?

They probably named her since she DID something effecting the whole group, namely drowning. This was also the factor that drove Jack into the forrest and his breakdown. The drowning was a rather important happening, and because of that they couldn't just said "someone" drowned today, like the person was totally unimportant..... IMO

Sorry, Momo, someone on the boards said that we saw Sayid with Sun and Jin nut then they commented back saying that they had made a mistake-we had seen Jin on line in the airport with Jack.

Ethan came out of the water. Where does the cable go, to an underwater barge?
The ear infection is a great excuse if she found out she was pregnant while in Australia.
There are Claire theories about "others" and her pregnancy, and I really think you've hit on something here. Even in the lostaways the men way outnumber the women.

All names in this show have meaning.* Look what I found on Joanna, which is a catalan (lang.) form of John.* English form of Johannes....."is gracious",* this connected me to John in relation to Joanna.

Apostle John was supposedly the author of the fourth (4) Gospel and Revelation.* The name has been used by ( 23 ) Popes and many Kings.* It was also borne by the philosopher "John Locke"

Seems to me that we have a name to connect with next season when the introduce a new character "Joanna" when she is
found alive after finding there way into the Hatch.

Creative way to be able to add a brand new person to the cast at a later time without
having to introduce them now.

Good to hear speculation on the reemergence of Joanna some are saying it may be she on the boat. She was athletic which might account for the good shot with the explosive device. Also she could have picked up boating skills with her diving adventures.

She even switched seats so we could sit together.

Maybe she wasn't meant to have survived the crash since she had switched seats...that could be why she died.
