View Full Version : Whose side would Charlie be on?
sleepingpanda 07-21-2005, 08:32 PM If Charlie were forced to choice between Jack and Locke who do you think he would choose? On one hand charlie did say that he trust Locke more than anyone else on the island...however he does spend alot more time with Jack. I haven't seen him really communicate with Locke since the Moth. He also might want to stay with Jack because of Claire and the baby.
gumpy5 07-21-2005, 10:36 PM I think Charlie would side with Locke.
Locke helped him out greatly to get him off the drugs (although a relapse seems imminent), plus Charlie is/was a religious man, so I think he would have more of an acceptance of following his faith.
sleepingpanda 07-21-2005, 10:47 PM That is true...Charlie and Jack have not always seen eye to eye on certian issues...
stircrazy 07-21-2005, 11:03 PM I thought I would say Jack for sure but after reading your posts not so sure.* do you think he still has a thing for Kate? where she goes may have an influence.* He would also want to be with Hurley since they seem pretty chummy.* I don't know if he is totally confident in his decisions yet.* He may go where Claire wants to go.* *
Man that's a tough one.* * *??? :-\
sleepingpanda 07-22-2005, 12:10 AM I totally agree...i know when i first thought about it i thought he would go with Jack without a doubt. It appears as though he would on the surface....but if you really think about the relationship he has with both of them i start leaning towards locke
teresamarie 07-22-2005, 12:34 AM Who Charlie would side with depends on how the drug situation will pan out. I am pretty sure he will take the drugs at some point of time and how it pans out from there depends on how that plays out.
At the present point of time, if you ask him to choose, I think he will choose Jack because there is a general distrust of Locke because of the Boone thing. I mean, in the end, except for Shannon, nobody seems to be holding any noticeable grudges. But, I don't think anybody generally trusts him either.
Also, he is closer to Jack. But he has been shown to chafe at times under Jack's authoritativeness like in Homecoming. If Jack becomes stern during any subsequent withdrawals, I am really not sure how impulsive Charlie will take it at the heat of the moment.
And Charlie is searching for a medium to regain his faith. Though unlike Locke, he had a faith pre-island that worked for him, his need for faith makes him a ripe candidate for Locke's tutelage. However, it will take skilful maneouvring on Locke's part as Charlie would really not be that open to a new God.
Then of course, there is the Claire factor. Claire has to come to the conclusion about the psychic that she came to pre-amnesia as evinced by her statement in Exodus 3 about faith. However, she has a predisposition for such beliefs and post-amnesia has connected more with Locke than Jack. Again, the general distrust holds.
lostfan4ever 07-22-2005, 12:53 AM I tend to think Charlie would side more with Locke because of the faith issue. I don't think Charlie would totally alienate Jack though either. I don't know. Maybe he will be a straddle the fence kind of guy.
elfdream 07-22-2005, 08:51 AM I go with how the drug issue plays out. If Charlie finds out Locke knew about the drugs and did nothing to warn others to keep Charlie away from them...he might have issues with Locke.
However if Claire goes with Locke...he has this need to protect her and Aaron so he might go where she goes.
But then Claire might hold a grudge against Locke for the drug thing as well. At the very end of Exodus it looks like she is finally warming up to Charlie and she might think that her situation might work out after all. She is there for her baby..Charlie is there for her and baby is happy. If Locke by a 'sin of omission' messes that up she might well go with Jack as well.
I think they might start out with Locke..but perhaps feel betrayed and go to Jack...
CharlieLuv 07-22-2005, 09:07 AM I think that Charlie would go with Locke. Because Charlie is religious and believes in faith then he would go with that group. But depending on which group Claire goes with might affect his decision. Remember in Exodus she said "there's no such thing as fate." So is that foreshadowing she'll be going with Jack?
sleepingpanda 07-22-2005, 12:47 PM If Claire goes with Jack then there is no way he wouldn't go with Jack....He is way to in love with Claire not to go with him. But if he feels going with Locke would be the best for Claire and the baby then he might be able to talk Claire into going with Locke. I agree with everyone who said that the drug thing will play a big factor in who Charlie would go with. I feel like Locke mgiht abandon him if he goes back to using....but thats just based on how he reacted to charlie asking fordrugs back for the third time at the end of the moth. I am guessing that Jack would be far more understanding about that issue with father. Also being a doctor he understands additcion and have lower exspectations.
i_love_dmjgmfna 07-24-2005, 07:30 PM I would have to lean more towards Jack. Just for the reason that the people on the island that he is most close with (Claire and Hurley mostly) would most likely be siding with Jack. But it's a tough question...because he would side with Locke for obvious reasons, too. But I think I would still stick with him being more on Jack's side.
jbdean 07-24-2005, 09:01 PM I think it will depend on where Claire goes. Charlie loves that baby and I think he's in love with Claire but doesn't know it fully yet (although I think he has an inkling of an idea that he is from when she was abducted by Ethan and when she came back he seemed sad that she didn't remember him and how they were progressing).
But if it was just up to Charlie, I think he'd go with Locke. I don't think he'd be as upset as some think if and when he finds out that Locke knew about the drugs and didn't tell. For 2 reasons: 1] Locke wasn't ready to tell when he was forced to so he really had no time to prepare anyone for that news & 2] He gave Charlie valuable advice when he told him that he [Charlie] had to make the decision and it was best to make it when he still had the drugs than after because waiting until afterwards made it really not his decision. I think Charlie remembers that. And Charlie knows that a plane full of his drug of choice would kill him in no time (that's a LOT of drugs on that plane!) and he really does care about Claire and her baby. I'm hoping that, while tempted, he won't give into temptation.
msfiction 08-11-2005, 09:06 PM Locke. They had that hole mentor-apprentice thing going on during 'The Moth', it just fit.
lostfan4ever 08-12-2005, 12:25 AM I still think we may see Charlie not fully committing to one or the other. I could see him going back and forth between Locke and Jack.
I think Charlie would be closer to Claire and then Jack. Of course if he is hiding the drugs then I would say it wouldn't be Jack.
lambchops972 08-17-2005, 08:16 AM I believe he will go with Locke. If there is a choosing of a sides, a sort of split of the group I think it will include Charlie and Claire. I think Claire will choose Jack and Charlie Locke.
It makes for more tension and excitement. Besides J.J. doesn't like to see couples happy. ;)
lostfan4ever 08-18-2005, 12:59 AM I think Claire might choose Locke. They bonded over building the cradle. In which case Charlie would most definitely side with Locke.
~Lirpa~ 08-18-2005, 01:05 AM I can see both Claire and Charlie siding with Locke. Like some of you have pointed out, Locke helped Charlie overcome his addiction and he said he trusts Locke. Even if Charlie were embarresed if he became a user again, I could see him going to Locke for help once more. And I agree, Claire and Locke had that cradle connection. Now, Shannon, she's another story!
