Alright...so I'm here, it's three am, and do you know what we need on this site? AN ADVICE COLUMN!!! And I am here to serve...just call me aunt coldqueen and ask away...

FYI You don't have to ask for advice...you can just ask any old question, like what my favorite color is or when was the last time I had a psychiatric evaluation...you know, let's get to know each other!

Let's start off with a question from one of my fanfic fans from ff.net...she asks...

Coldqueen,

Why do people feel the need to write crappy fanfiction about a couple that sucks like Shannon and Sayid...they are a HORRIBLE COUPLE! AND YOU SUCK!

Love,

Jenn

Okay...take your MEDS YOU PSYCHO!

(PS that was totally my friend Jenn writing to piss me off but you get the idea)

A/N If you don't wish to pose your question here (id-ing reasons), feel free to e-mail me darlings, I am here to help.

Hi Coldqueen, wassup? I've been hoping to get to know you a bit, because I admire your posts. You're always so articulate, and funny. I'm not sure how to PM on this thing, but maybe I'll try next time I notice you're online. So here's my question:

Dear Aunt Coldqueen,

At the end of a long hot summer, vacations come and gone, visitors come and gone, going back to work soon, HOW DOES A PERSON LIVE FROM WEDNESDAY TO WEDNESDAY????? Please give strategies for surviving a Lost dry spell.

Your humble servant,

Elf-lady;)

Dear Elf-Lady,

I can say the same of you...your posts in Spoiler Theories are always thought provoking and interesting. And to your question...I have a couple of things I can recommend, that I personally have tried and find somewhat effective.

1) You can go the tried and true route, record the Lost episode on Wednesday and spend the next week re-watching and obsessing over the smallest things in the episode (and by extension, coming to the Fuselage and letting everyone else in on what you've found). This is a good one if you want to feel helpful or like you're doing something for the community.

2) (and my personal favorite that I have tried) You can fly out to Hawaii (or is California now?) and stalk every writer, producer, and actor on the show, steal the scripts, break into ABC offices in hopes of finding free stuff from the show, and in the end of it all, you can watch Lost from prison...with a big, burly man named Sue.

3) (and highly recommended for the religious) You can take up yoga and meditation and pass the week on a higher plane...

4) You can drag out the maps and struggle to pinpoint just WHERE THE LOSTers ARE!

Okay, so yeah. I hope this helps. If you have any more problems, I'm here, and I care.

Love,

Coldqueen

Dear Lonewolf,

Wow...bet you loved it when they played that Blind Boys of Alabama song on Lost...but back to the point, what's your daughter's name? How long have you been married? What got you interested in Lost? What's your favorite episode so far? Why are you living in Alabama if you're a Yankee?

For my part, I'm a St. Louisian and always have been. I'm not married, don't have any kids, love Sci-Fi and horror, try but can't doodle or draw (and this is after 13 years of performing and visual arts education), I love all music (and I mean this quite literally), and am currently working two jobs to go to college. So, yeah...any questions from you, and I hope to hear from you!

Hi again!

My daughter's name is Stacy (She posts as Sassy lassie)
I've been married 24 years to a lovely southern belle named Linda.:inlove:
She's from Bama, & I'm from Indiana - but we met - fell in love & married in Alaska
where we were both serving in the Navy. (Her parents gave us land down here, so that's why I'm a transplanted yankee!
I saw the ad for the show on the back of the tv guide, & was totally intrigued! Got in on it from the begining. Favorite episode? :39: Probably the season finale where Locke was
talking about playing "operation" (Bzzzzzzz!)
Do you like to read? Who are your favorite authers? (Sassy lassie has a group ship called The book nook cafe' in "not lost " section. I pretty much like every kind of music, too (except rap & opera!) But I'm especialy fond of 60s folk & Classical.
It's great to get to know you, CQ, & feel free to holler at me anytime if you feel like talking!

Your friend always

Dear Thomas,

24 years...that's a long time. I'm happy for you, and for your daughter; my parents didn't last a year (and that was out of wedlock). I feel like I need a tissue, it's like a fairy tale. I feel special if my boyfriend offers me a fry.

Okay, I'll totally confess something to you...I didn't start watching Lost until they started doing repeats in like December 2004, but I love it justa s much as anyone else! Promise. I did it this way because a lot of new shows don't make it, and like you said it sounded interesting. I didn't want to get attached and then have it taken away, that kind of thing hurts a girl.

I LOVE TO READ! I'm doing it most of the time. I have to admit though, that I am a romance reader, so you know what that entails. I have a thing for vampire fiction, my fav used to be Anne Rice, but I've moved on to the more humorous writers of that genre, like MaryJanice Davidson and Laurell K. Hamilton. See, I have a...well, I guess you could call it a standard. I like to be amused and entertained when I read. It's one reason my creative writing teacher and I always argued over what I read. He thinks that books should stimulate your mind and make you think, and I think that they should entertain and make you smile (if not laugh). By extension, when I force myself to try reading "intellectual" books it takes a lot longer than it would with an entertaining one.

I love rock music...soft rock, old rock, hard rock, just rock. That is my fave. One of my favorite songs, and my lullaby from when I was a baby, is Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World." Now, that is music. I'm not that much of a fan of classical music, but I love soundtracks. And I mean it, some movies have some awesome instrumentals on there, ie 28 Days Later, The Fifth Element (my first and fave), and Cirque De Soleil's "Varekai" are just a few of the best I own.

So, yeah, I have to cut this short, today is my b-day and my friends want to take me out so...smooches!

Truth,

Tiffany

Dear XxNicholeexX,

Despite the fact that I am a rabid Shannon/Sayid shipper...I could see. It's all Josh's fault for having great chemistry with almost everyone on the show. I actually read a fanfic once that captured said chemistry perfectly, but however much a Shannon/Sawyer ship on the show would be amusing, I don't think their chemistry is, ahem, hot enough for that. I would like to see my man make some friends on the show though, and with Shannon I can see this happening. Everyone thinks he's an *** and she's a bitch...so what are you gonna do?

Hi Coldqueen, :hb2: Hope you had an excellent birthday. Are you only 18? I don't even remember 18. I'm 48, my name is Dreama, and I teach college in Huntington, WV. I have two grown children, ages 28 and 24. One's in Florida and one's in Ohio, so it takes some driving to see them.
I love to read, too-- love good writing. I read lots of stuff, pretty much anything that's good. I go in phases: one week I'm reading Jane Austen (again) and the next I'm reading Caleb Carr. Or both at once! I read lots of science fiction when I was your age, lost interest after a while. I'm not smart enough to keep up with the tech! A student once gave me "Interview With the Vampire", and I think Anne Rice is the best writer of our age, but I couldn't get far in it; I'm a wimp, and it freaked me out, I could feel every heartbeat and smell every smell. I got to looking over my shoulder all the time. Couldn't sleep. Now, THAT'S a writer! I later read the one about Cleopatra or someone coming back to life...liked it, she has great pacing. Anyway.
I started watching Lost from day one, couldn't wait when I heard Dom Monoghan was playing a junkie. I am a huge LOTR fan, read the books over 20 times (lost count), and liked the movies overall, though I have complaints. Anyway, that's why I started watching it, and I can't get enough! I started taping episodes during the much-resented reruns back in the winter and watching them once or twice each before the next one.
Better stop for now. See ya!

Dear Elflady,

Thank you for wishing me a happy b-day! Everyone's so nice. But yeah, only eighteen, and it's cool, cause I barely remember seventeen. I have a horrible memory. Okay, so a little impertinent question here...is your real name Dreama? Were your parents hippies?

Wow, two kids...they drive you crazy?

You're talking about "The Mummy" by Anne Rice...yeah, that one got me mad because there was no sequel written even though it all but set one up. But, yeah, Anne Rice can cause freak outs...but that's not why I quit reading her books. I just got interested in other things (she takes so long to write the next book, which I completely understood with her medical problems). I am actually currently completely in love with Janet Evanovich, an extremely funny romance/mystery writer! She makes me crack up so bad!

And that is why I love LOST! It can include a fanbase of every culture around, every age, and every other category you want to put people in! It is that broad an interest for people.

Okay, gotta get off now...work calls...

Love,

Tiffany

PS About the LOTR book thing...you go to Spoiler Theories right? So you've probably seen Patch and my little argument about them...and if you haven't then basically, all I have to say is that reading is an older generation thing...nowadays with people in my age group if there's a movie about it we don't need to read the book (With the exclusion of me, because I did TRY to read them...finished the Fellowship but couldn't get started on the Two Towers...I will try again though...sometime)

Dear psychoballerina,

While not a huge fan of the Beatles (long live ELVIS!) I do love John Lennon. I cannot get enough of that man, a genius tragically taken before I could be born and steal him from Yoko...but I can tell you that with the Beatles, he created some of the most immortal music of that generation...and yes...they were more popular than Jesus.

Dear Coldqueen,

What an inventive thread! Don't know why someone else didn't think of it. So, I don't really have anything to ask you, just wanted to say hi in general. I love the 'lage and all of the great minds that seem to just converge here.

Love reading but don't have much time. I decided late in life to head back to school and am working on my degree. Plus I have a 10 month old and work, so that leaves little time (I'm at work right now...shhhhh). I was once obsessed with Anne Rice, she is such a phenomenal writer. I was surprised recently when looking on amazon.com at the reviews of one of her books and she actually posted a reply. My respect for her grew by leaps and bounds (as if that were possible).

I'm always on the look out for new authors (new to me I mean), so if you have suggestions they are appreciated! That goes for others as well. I often go to the Book Nook and get ideas from everyone.

Happy belated b-day!

All the best,

Michele

Wow, two kids...they drive you crazy?" Hey again; first, Yes, my real name. It's rare, but it's out there. My parents weren't hippies, silly, I was! I'm 48; there weren't hippies in 1956. My kids, however, got normal names. No Moonbeams or Hickorys for me. Their names are Kate & Tom, and they drove me crazy when they were home, but they're both on their own now, so I spend a lot of time wishing I could see them. Halloween and birthdays are terrible.

No biggie about LOTR; it's not for everyone.

Hope you're recovered from your birthday bash!

Sorry, bad with the history placement thing...I still think the Depression happened in the 1910's...or 20's...maybe 30's(this explains my bad grade in history)...Aww...no Moonbeams? That's an awesome name...sad...

Dear Michele,

Hi, welcome to the wonderful world of me and my opinion (of which there are many). So what degree are you working on? I am actually just starting college in a few weeks so YAY! And your ten month old? Boy or girl? Name? Cute?

You asked for new authors and since you read Anne Rice I assume you like vamp fic, so I highly recommend Laurell K Hamilton and her Anita Blake series (or if you're just a sci-fi buff like me her Meredith Gentry books are good too). I also recommend MaryJanice Davidson for a humorous vamp read...or if you're into the slightly darker read Kim Harrison has a series out (starting with Dead Witch Walking) that is pretty good. Some other authors I like include Christine Feehan, Linda Francis Lee, Sandra Hill, and Angela Knight...yeah, any of them are good.

I'm a member in the Book Nook Cafe too so you'll probably see me there...later!

Tiffany,

I'm currently working on my degree in Criminal Justice. I say currently because I have changed my mind at least 10 times. My 10 month old (11 months in Saturday!) is a boy and his name is Wyatt. He is the light of my life. He is absolutely adorable (if I do say so myself). Will be happy to send you a picture sometime.

I have jotted down all of the authors you listed. I read a little of everything from mystery to sci-fi to true crime. I appreciate the suggestions and will let you know what I think! May be a while as I don't get a lot of time to read, but I'll be sure to check in with ya.

Take care,

Dear Michele,

I'd love a picture sometime...since my cousin had a baby boy in December I've become interested in kids ( a wonder of wonders coming from someone unable to bear and thus uninterested in children).

Whenever you have to time to chat or just write a quick note, feel free...I usually check in at least every two days...the Fuselage is my lifeblood! And please, do let me know what you think...I have plenty of suggestions where those came from if you liked them.

Oh, well..two am and very tired...will chat with you later!

Hey Tiffany. The Depression was 1929-about 33. Moonbeam is a cool name; I'd like to name a dog or a horse that. Not a kid. It's hard growing up with a weird name (ask Dreama, dear), and though I miss them, it's great to have the place to myself & hubby, not be handing out cash and loaning the car all the time, and knowing where the scissors are! Not to mention the remote!
I'm doing fine, go back to work next week (ick!), trying to get as much couch time as possible until then. What's your gig? Are you in college? Work? Why are you only online in the wee hours of the morning?

Dreama,

Yes, Moonbeam very cool name...I'm glad you aren't pining for your birdies that have flown the coop...and yes, as a teenager I have hoarded all the scissors in the house...not the remote though, does Grandma no good to have because she can't work it...

I am in college (just paid $500 dollars for books today effectively clearing out my bank account and got a tuition payment coming so...MUST WORK MORE!) "Wee hours" LOL I love you, you're funny...but yeah, I'm on in the "wee hours" because I work from four in the afternoon to midnight, and when I get home I'm way too hyper off all the activity to go to sleep. Or, I'm also an insomniac so even if I am tired I'm not going to sleep.

So, why aren't you working? Couch? Are you on vacation? Yeah, this summer was supposed to be my vacation (having gotten very used to doing nothing during the summers for the last EIGHTEEN YEARS!!!) but I have to work. I have calluses on my hands...and the skin on my fingers is wearing off from lifting heavy trays...and yes, I am a service assistant at the Old Spaghetti Factory so I do a lot of manual labor (and if you don't know this already I am a tiny little blonde chick so watching me work is pretty funny).

Alright, so it's time to figure out how I'm going to make my tuition payment, so I'll talk to you later...

See, I'm on vacation all summer because I go back to work when you go back to school. I teach college freshmen....I'm surrounded by 18 year-olds all day. No but seriously...it took me a while to settle...for a while I wanted to be a nurse...but then I realized I wasn't a people person...then I wanted to be a stewardess...thenI realized...not tall enough (and that one hurt)...for a while I wanted to be a psychiatrist...then I realized I don't want to listen to other people's problems for a living and not get to tell them what to do (like I get to with this column of mine!) Finally, I decided to do something that I love...I want to be a book editor...see all the best qualities of me?! I get to read, be opinionated, and tell people what to do!!!

Yeah, COLLEGE IS EXPENSIVE! I just spent $500 on books and it's only my freshman year! God, what's it gonna be next year? 700? I freaked...on the inside...I still got a little money for tuition in there though...but I'm no longer allowed to buy anything else until I save a little for the next payment.

So where do you teach? What subject? Are you liked? (LOL) Yeah...but I have to write those d**n papers!

Talk to you later!

Love,

Tiffany

Hey again Tiff

Well, an English major! Hee hee. I remember those days. I teach English! Freshman comp, mostly, but I have a lit class: American Pop Culture in Literature. I think being a book editor would be cool; I'd like to try that. I teach at Marshall Community College in Huntington, WV. We're attached to Marshall University, if you've ever heard of it. They're a big deal in football.

Do you read the Harry Potter books?

Dreama,

I don't read the HP books...I live them...I spend most of my time AIMing my friend Jenn with insane theories about just what will happen in the final book...and you are my proof that they are not just kids books! HAHA! Vindication!

I've never heard of Marshall University, but unless their football team had an uber-cute QB then I wouldn't have. I'm not a big sports fan...except for Extreme Ironing...now that was awesome...

OH! I know who I'm emailing when I have an English problem! Just kidding...unless you willingly offer your services...

Okay, so do you actually enjoy teaching? Or are you one of those teachers who take the "If I can't do I'll teach" motto to heart? I hope you're not because in my experience those who do lose their love of literature sooner rather than later...and I'd love to have someone to discuss books with!

Love,

Tiffany

Hey, Tiff

Oh good, someone to discuss HP with! If I could have any wish come true, it would be that JK's world is real and I could be a Hogwart's student. Man. A functional magic wand + Moi= Watch out!

You can contact me for help anytime. You can email papers to me and I'll give you feedback or whatever. I do love teaching, it's the thing I do best, honest. I love literature and the written word. I get burnt-out sometimes because of having to deal with students who are just f--- off, trying to pull things on me (fake doctor's excuses, stuff like that), but overall I love it. Some kid in a class once, while I was lecturing on Poe or something, said, "Y'know, somebody should pay you to just talk about this stuff...." I'm like, "Uh, they kinda ARE, little dude...." But anyway.

I know nothing about Marshall's quarterback. Sorry. I don't do sports, either, but a couple of times a year my husband has some guys up and they watch Marshall championship games and stuff. I'll get players in class, they'll say, "You goin' to the game this weekend, Mrs. Stringer?" And I'll go, "What game?" Am I evil?

Tell your friend I know plenty of people older than I am who are addicted to the HP books, too!

Later, 'tater.

I'll chime in here to both of you - I love HP!!! I'm not an "expert" like some, but I love the books. And I'm far from a "child". Granted, my family thinks I'm a dork, but I'm slowly converting them to the HP way.

Coldqueen's Public Service Announcement:

In an effort to be "globally conscious" I feel the need to use my uber-status as a columnist (lately we've diverged into a chat-esque atmosphere) to bring this announcement to our younger readers...

I implore anyone who feels pressured to do things that they don't want to do to seek help and not give in to peer pressure. Also, despite the corniness, abstinence is the key ladies and gentlemen...children are the spawn of Satan and will ruin your life...

Thank you...now back to the general goofiness in my column...

I agree with your announcement for the most part...except for the Spawn of Satan stuff. I have to admit I never wanted kids. Then I had my little accident....er...I mean little boy. :)

In the words of Joey on Friends (not an exact quote by the way): "What do you mean it's not 100%? They should put that on the box!" Everyone else: "They DO put it on the box!"

Man I miss that show.

Anyway, as far as our cult - how about the Harry Pits? lol I'm amusing myself with my own stupid jokes - now I know I've had a long day.

Hey Tiff, Hi Chelle,

We could call ourselves the Gryffindor Girls. Or not. Tiff, nice avi, you're cute. And you're right, kids can be the spawn of Satan and do change your life entirely, completely, irrevocably. And Chelle, the little accidents are the best kind. Mine are grown and gone, thank goodness! I'm afraid, mostly my fault, I'm making this a little Chat-roomy, and I don't want to get busted, so on to other things. What's this I hear about a special episode of Lost to be shown before the opener of the season? Guess I'll cruise the boards and see. You gals stay out of trouble.

Dreama

Oh Chelly, Love your avi! Someone sent me this pic ages ago and I've used it before for other stuff, but don't have it anymore. Can you send me a link to where I can download it? Thanx

I like Gryffindor Girls. I say we go with it.

I can't remember where I found the little penguins, but I have it saved to my pc, so if you want to shoot me a message with your email addy I'll be happy to send it to you.

I heard about the special episode too. I've read a couple of threads about it and there seems to be some question as to whether it'll be new and interesting or on the same lines of the last "special" where they just showed clips from the season.

Everyone,

(Yeah, totally becoming too chat room-y) Gryffindor Girls it is...I'm starting a group...look for it!

On to bigger and better things...I have a situation I feel the need to discuss with my patrons...Let's say, hypothetically, that you have a problem with flirting. With everyone. Let's say that a coworker might have taken it a bit serious and touched a girl in the wrong place...would you say something to management or take care of it yourself? Because seriously, I flirt with everyone, so I blame myself just a little.

Love,

Tiffany

I have to admit that I have a hard time distinguishing between message board-y and chatroom-y. I'm a novice message boarder, so please forgive me.

Regarding your hypothetical situation - I would take care of it myself, but if it continued then I would go to management.

Elf-lady

Queenie,

Bit flirty, are we? I used to do that, too, and lemme tell ya, most guys can't tell whether you're serious or not...they ALL assume you want a piece of them. So you'll have to rein it in, gal....since you feel partly to blame for what happened by being flirty, I'd handle it one-on-one with the guy first, tell him you tend to joke around a lot, didn't mean to lead him on, etc. and to please disregard. If he does something again, go to management and tell them the whole story.

My 2 pennies.

Dreama

Dudes,

Thanks for the advice...and it is unneccesary...situation is resolved. But it got worse before it got better. (And truth be told, the one time I did work with him I wasn't really flirty, I was pissed at management) He totally grabbed my *** in front of customers and I had to do something. And when I mentioned something to my server in that section she got pissed and said something before I could stop her. I was totally planning on saying something though. I was just planning my approach. I had this fear though, because if I had had to go to management it would ruin whatever progress I'd had with the other bussers. I've only worked there two months and I'm just now getting into the "mold" of the place...so moral is? Get someone else to deal with it.

Okay, and just so you both know...Instead of this being just my advice column...I'm turning it into an advice three for all! Everyone who asks for advice here is allowed to give it in return...after all...you can't really trust just one person's advice...but you can trust three.

Love,

Tiffany

Okay, so I have another hypothetical situation for my loyal readers...

You are in a car crash...not your fault...but the other driver is screaming at you and and coming closer...what do you do?

a) Smack her....

b) Politely ask her to share info and get out of your hair

c) Call the cops and have them arrest her for assault

d) other...

Oh! That's sad...but here's something sadder...in my senior year of high school I was in no less thatn three serious accidents...1) My cuz and me were on our way to Springfield MO and we got cut off and our car rolled five times. 2) My Grandmother and I were taking my cat to the Humane Society when a SUV slammed into the back of her car and totalled it...(I was in the back seat by the way). 3) My boyfriend and me were arguing when I was trying to learn how to drive (still can't-don't really want to now) and I slammed the side of his truck into a tree...a large tree...at high speeds...

Yeah, I'm not allowed to drive any more and I wear my seat belt (which I hadn't been in any of these accidents).

BurningStar4
08-22-2005, 05:26 PM
Jeesh Coldqueen, and I thought I was bad. Yea, I wasn't wearing my seatbelt either, and I ended up flying into the passengar side of my car, some guy carried me out of my car and I was fine, just a little bruised.
