I saw John Walsh (from Americas Most Wanted) on Rita Cosby last night and he was urging everyone to take action and write their senators asking to pass the bill to protect our children from sexual predators and to have stronger punishments for sex offenders who fail to register. Go to http://www.amw.com/features/ and read about it. It has a form letter for you to follow. It took 5 minutes for me to email the letter to my congressman. It did not have a link to the senators but it was just another 5 minutes to copy and paste the letter - print copies and snail mail to my senators. To look up the address of your senators go to http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.
This is a subject very close to my heart. I have a family member who was sexually abused as a child and the predator did go to jail but only served a measly few years. However we fought very hard to have his status be that of a level 3 offender and come to find out a few years after he got out of jail - he didn't just re-offend he escallated to murder and killed a mother and daughter. He hasn't had his trial yet but the reason they caught him was thru DNA and the registry since he left his dna on the rape/murder victim. Originally he fought his classification and if he had won and was only a level 2 his DNA would not have been on file at all. Thank god he was classified as a level 3 - the most dangerous sex offender who is likely to reoffend. It didn't really hinder him much though -he didn't register like he was supposed to - he had false addresses and lived with children and no one kept tabs on him. He was even busted for passing a false prescription and was let out on the street rather than immediately being sent back to jail for breaking his probation and because he fell thru the cracks a mother and child are dead. He is now in jail serving out the rest of his original sentence for the false script (too little too late) so the streets are safe for the time being from this vile sexual deviant/murder but if it was done right the 1st time those 2 innocent people would be alive today. Please take 10 minutes out of your day and protect our children. Thank you.
