I also love how he has so much class. He is able to continue doing what he needs to do in spite of his own hurts. So many times he has continued to treat someone or walk into an awkward situation even though it may be difficult because he is a total professional. I also love that he is vunerable and feels things so deeply. Yes, I even love that he cries when he is feeling pain. He feels hurt right down to his core and I love him as a character for this.

I love this list. I just rewatched the episode where Jack sat on the beach with Rose without talking but just being there for her. I love how he tried talking but was able to see that Rose didn't want to talk she just wanted to sit there starring out into the water so he just sat there with her not talking just putting a blanket on her and kept her company. Such a great Jack move. He gives you what you need. He's there for you.

Jackaroo, I was just borrowing TWOP's moniker for Christian. They kept calling him JackDaddy in the first recaps and the name kinda stuck. This show's full of daddy issues and sometimes I have a hard time remembering everybody's names from the flashbacks. With Kate, it's GoodDaddy and BadDaddy... Yeah, I'm weird.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Jack's next flasback and I hope DrShephard Sr shows up again.

nice question, it's difficult to say, why we love jack, because he's awesome, he can be funny, he can be serious, I love the flashback when he met his wife, in the hospital, he ended crying, I think that's why I love him, he can show his true feelings to everybody.

Oh I loved Jack from the first moment I saw him and the whole way he dealt with the crisis after the plane crash. It's even more than that though. It's something in the way Foxy portrays his character that is just so endearing and comforting. I'm always so relieved when he is around or when trouble is going on, I am waiting for Jack to come and add his voice. Everyone is important in a show but somehow, Jack is mandatory on that island. Just the sound of his voice is a comfort.

Just like to chime in that I still like Jack's character. Not as much as last season, but he's still near the top of my favourites list. A lot of the traits that other people consider as negatives I consider positives, such as the over commitment, the hero complex and the cold rational way of thinking.

Because we get to see intimately with Jack that universal human struggle we all go through: We see Jack trying to stay in control of himself and his emotions in the middle of turmoil and stress of daily life (now Jack's daily life is quite different from mine - but I think I can relate:) ). And like Jack, we sometimes fail at staying in control, and we have to figure out how to deal with ourselves then. It is sometimes painful (angsty), but always captivating to watch Jack deal with his lack of control, and see how it affects his emotions and his reactions and actions on the island.

so safely to say that Dr. Giggles would not be in need of anything... LOL.. I'm afraid i would be sick alot....especially having eye problems..

One of things I love about Jack is even when he's suffering. He still trys to save other people just like when he tried to save Kate after he was shot at in last week's finale.

Season 1. epi 3. he goes into a wreched smelly fuselage to dig for drugs.
Season 1 epi 1.. he isnt afraid to ask for help.
Season 1 epi 1. he got all mushy when kate said she was going with him to get the transceiver, didnt find her shoes, but let her do it..

season 2 sos.. he went straight to the one person he trusts the most.. kate.

He's all the best things in one! :D

One of the things i love most about Jack is that he accepts people, despite their flaws. He is compassionate to people who are vulnerable and in need.

When all of Charlie's friends walked away when Locke knocked him down in Fire and Water. It was Jack who approached him after and tended to his wounds. I don't believe for a second if he'd been there too that he would of walked away.
When Ana turns up after shooting Shannon, its Jack who spends time with her when she is practically ostracised. (Although Sun and Jin do offer her fish, yes i love them too)
Don't even get me started on Jack and Kate. I'll be here all day. :biggrin:

The health and well-being of his fellow castaways are all he's ever focused on. He's a friend or at least civil to all of them regardless of what they've done in the past or while on the island. He doesn't blab their secrets. He's always ready to do whatever he has to in order to keep them safe and to make sure they are okay emotionally when everything gets crazy. The best example of that was when he was hell bent on finding Locke and all Kate had to say to stop him in his tracks was, "People are scared Jack, they need you to come back".

The Losties would be lost without Jack. They’d be killing each other over a fish or dying of thirst while they whined over who should have to go to the caves to get water or they’d drown in the ocean following their destiny. He’s their compass.

It should be interesting to see who will step up in his absence. Whoever it is will most likely be a lot less combative with him when he gets back after they get a taste of what it's like walk in Jack's island shoes for awhile.

So true. I was rewatching Collision the other day and when he says to Eko that all he cares about is getting all of their people back safe my heart breaks for him. He must be sick of going to to funerals by now.

And mine as a viewer. I've enjoyed some of the season 2 episodes in which he doesn't play a very important part, but I miss him when he's not around.

I hope you're right but I'm not getting my hopes up. I think most of the losties (the ones we see anyway) take him for granted and will probably continue to do so.

That was wonderful, flyer! :clapping: I bolded one of the main reasons I love Jack. He let everyone think Charlie had the flu, he kept Kate's secret even though she was a stranger who lied to him and tried to use him, he never accused Hurley of being crazy and trusted him with the food supply, he didn't treat Ana like an outcast... He didn't owe anything to any of these people and yet he's tried to establish a relationship based on trust and respect with everyone.

One of my favorite moments in Exodus is when he tells Michael "give me twenty minutes" and ralleys everyone to help with the raft. And they all follow him, because I think the majority of the group not only knows they'd be dead without Jack, but they also respect him. It's only those who have their own agendas that conflict with the group's that give Jack a hard time. Ultimately, conflict makes for great entertainment, but I think most of the other castaways are grateful to be led by someone who has their best interest in mind at all times. And if they're not, like you said, this is the perfect opportunity for that penny to drop.

well said, _Ingrid_. :thumb_up: I thought about Jack's leadership and how some people think he's arrogant and power hungry and wants everyone to obey him just because he says so. imo Jack is a great leader, not because he's flawless and always right (he's far from it), but because the person he's the hardest on is himself... the truth is that the well-being of all the Losties is his main priority and he wants everyone to be safe and cared for, as far as it's possible on this island anyway. he works himself to the ground for them... I agree that most castaways have no problems with Jack's leadership, but those that undermine his leadershim are a constant thorn in his side and just love to go behind his back... the sign that Losties generally have nothing against Jack being the head honcho is that they listen to him and help him, when he wants them, as a group, to do something (e.g. with the raft, as you pointed out). if they hadn't accepted Jack as their leader and if his charisma (I think he has quite a bit of it - if he cares about some matter, he can get really convincing and stubborn about it:biggrin: ), we would witness some situations we've seen the example of in SOS. Bernard had this wonderful idea of rallying troops to build a giant SOS sign, right? and at the beginning there were quite a few Losties listening to him explaining his idea... but he assigned to himself the easiest job, got irritated and judgemental when someone did things not the way he wanted etc... at the end he lost supporters remarkably quickly. if Jack wasn't accepted as a leader, he wouldn't be a leader for long...

why i like jack, because Jack is what we would want to be, he appeals to our good side. he struggles with himself over choices, as we do. he is brave and doesnt really think about the pat on the back or reconiziton, he does it because he knows its best.

besides his wonderful emotional side he is who we all would like to be.
