I just finished watching the dvd's in order. There is something very peculiar about the way the writers present the characters.

EVERY character talks about their parents at one point or another. Every single one!! Is that normal to a story like this?

Also, there are 2 common similarities in the parents. Wealth and at least one parent who is missing in some sort of way. Let me list:

Jack: Emotionally missing father - now really missing cause he is dead. Money.
Sun: Dad owns huge company. Only mentions dad.
Jin: Says dad is dead. Dad is not part of his life. No mom. Fisherman so prob no money.
Charlie: Im drawing a blank but know it is mentioned.
Michael: Wife mentions her parents. Is the parent of walt that is abandoned.
Walt: Mother dead. Mother and stepfather with money. Abandoned by walt (essentially)
Kate: Mentions father and we see her mother. I need help here
Hurley: Dad took him fishing when he was a kid - dont see dad only mom in flashback. Money.
Sawyer: Both parents dead - maybe foster family had money
Locke: Mother. Money.
Shannon: Mom only. Money.
Boone: Father only but dead. Money.
Sayid: Mention of parents when Nadia mentions - dont know money or absent.
Claire: Very purposeful use of mentions of her mom not knowing about her pregnancy and how she would be disowned - assume money - nobody poor disowns.

Now I know this is not tied together well but that is why I am posting - for ideas.

I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE IS NO WAY WE WOULD KNOW ABOUT EVERY CHARACTERS PARENTS UNLESS THAT WAS SOMEHOW INVOLVED.
Think of any other drama you know and watch. Do you know every characters parents? Are there forced mentions of those parents? Just look at claire. She says to boyfriend "we cant tell my mom - she would disown me". and then later says to psychic "even my mom doesnt know". THIS DIALOG HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING. What if the boyfriend was a plant from the mom to get claire pregnant and on the island? BF does the deed, reports back to mom, mom tells psychic everything, psychic tells claire what to do, BF dumps claire to force the decision, psychic and mom arrange claire to get on flight.

I dont know the details of how this works but I am sure it goes somewhere.

HELp? IDEAS? THOUGHTS?

THANKS!!

Charlie: We know that his GF dad was wealthy and not married.

The reason I say this is heading towards my thought that the parents have something to do with them being on the island - and in charlies case it was his GF dad who had the money.

MAYBE IF YOU HAVE MONEY AND WANT SOMEONE GONE - THE ISLAND IS A WAY TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.???????

Come on now - 50 people read this and have no thoughts on it?

This sounds perfectly normal? maybe i belong with sam in the looney bin!

vanzack Don't feel bad, we've talked about this lots, and you are right. There definately is a parent connection, but noone has gotten any further than you have.

WIF already answered :)
We discussed this ad nauseam a few months back, and if you didn't get any answers or thoughts, it's because we've already explored this on numerous threads

On my part i even speculated that they were all "in vitro" (or test tube) babies, and none of their parents were actually their real parents

speculations have run wild and you should take a look at the older threads to fish out our thoughts (i guess we moved on to other issues now )

I think we explored this issue to every length we could, and we may resume once the season resumes and we have new flashbacks to feed the theory

We've discussed it so hard that now most of us are "dry" on the subject, and without any new input there's is really not much more to be said

but as WIF told you, we haven't come to more conclusions than you have (except for some pretty wacky theories)
Should you find anything new, we'd be glad to hop on board once again :)
