View Full Version : How old is Jack supposed to be?
lostcause 09-22-2005, 10:41 PM After watching last night's episode "Man of Science, Man of Faith", I'm confused as to how old Jack is supposed to be. I mean, if we know that Desmond and Jack met when he met Sara when she needed her surgery than wasn't that supposed to be four years before Jack and Sara got married? It seemed to me that the equipment in Desmond's apartment were dated back from the early eighties, late seventies, not to mention Jack's groovy hairstyle. Wouldn't that make Jack in his mid-forties? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
banshee 09-23-2005, 01:01 AM Hi lost :)
I'd say mid 40's is too old.
On the UK website, they listed his age as being born in July 1969...
More than that though SoCal's program for neurosurgery is 12 yrs including residency...Post grad you do 1 yr of specialization training if you meet program requirements in ranking/skill etc. Even if it took Jack 14 yrs and he was 18/19 starting college, he'd be 32 when he was a free standing doc. To be 34 would have 2 yrs establishment in practice outside of residency which is more than enough to be considered skilled.By the time you hit then you have to know what you're doing.
Seems to me in Jack's FB's of MoF Christian was still "teaching" Jack how to be a doc which would suggest he's in earlier stages of his doctorship.
Maybe it is Matt Fox's real-life age (39)?

thanks, liz_lost_fan. I knew it was only a few years, but couldn't remember the exact number.
I got the feeling that the wedding and everything took place in the last couple of years, but the flashback seems to indicate that the timeline is back in the late seventies, early eighties. Could this be proof that the "Twin Theory" by French Mathematician Marseille Roussau has some merit? Maybe the flashback isn't really a flashback, but another life???
LostWord 09-24-2005, 01:17 AM That was not 70's style hair. Actually 70's style hair was alot more like today's hair, except for some of the more extreme styles(by which I mean if you look at alot of the magazine ads where the guys have that slightly longer hair but not mullet style, maybe a little naturally wavy at the end or longer in the front, etc). Jack's hairstyle COULD be 80's but it also existed in the 90's.
Matthew Fox had that exact same hairstyle(only it looked much better because it was real hair) in the mid-1990's when he played Charlie Salinger on Party of Five.
Besides I'm pretty sure someone caught the year 1997 as a date in one of the flashback scenes(and that was the style Charlie had in 1997, I was just watching a clip of Matt in one of the "Bailey's an alcoholic and needs an intervention" episodes :) and his hair was just like that, except more natural, so I think they were actually pulling a little in-joke with the hairstyle, too bad they couldn't have spent the money for a proper hairpiece LOL ).
debispretty 09-24-2005, 01:23 AM Did Jack actually get married? He never mentions her at all, you think he would have when he was talking to the lady that thinks her husband is still alive.(i think he is too for the record) They do the flashbacks but she didn't go with him to find his dad or even have a conversation before he left, he never tries to call his on cell from the airport? Did i miss something?
They aren't together anymore. Something happened to split them up.

Or she may have died ...
i_love_dmjgmfna 10-04-2005, 05:02 PM I'd say Jack is probably around late 30's.
banshee 10-05-2005, 04:45 AM I can't be 100% sure how accurate this info is, but it is put out by the UK ABC affiliate that airs Lost. It has a game called "The Untold" (akin to the I-Am-Lost game) which has a ton of spoiler items on the characters. Re:Jack & the age issue, there is a bit of info which lists his DOB as July 24,1969.
You can go here:

If you don't wish to go through all of the clues, simply click "I've been here before", click Jack's name, & this info is under the white stone on his CV.
I didn't think it was a spoiler per se since it just deals with his age.

I am thinking the same thing. Last night when Desmond asked Jack, he said he married her, but hen broke down and cried.
But in the airport bar, when Ana Lucia was hitting on him. He said he wasn't married anymore. Either he was really good at hiding his emotions about it. OR it was a bitter break-up.
