I don't usually buy music from iTunes, but I had to buy "Make Your Own Kind of Music" by Mama Cass on Wednesday night.. The voices in my head told me to.

I like Mama Cass and yes, she was an overweight woman with a very soothing voice.
I'll have to check my Mamas and Pappas CD for Make Your Own Kind of Music. It is one of those songs that once it gets in your head doesn't leave until you sung it endlessly. At least we'll know the Lost fans in a crowd by the songs they are humming!

I'm forced to listen to snippets on cduniverse... my University has the connection here firewalled to hell, so I can't get it via P2P! Http is my only method of getting things these days, it blows.

Did I mention, I freakin NEED it...like a fix or something... or I'm going to go INSANE!!! Haha.

Seasons In the Sun. They're saving that for the episode where they show Sun going through her morning routine ;)
I think the use of this song was brilliant. It captures a sound that is so stongly associated with the 70s (mama cass), but its not a song that we hear ad nauseum today. It really put the icing on an awesome opening scene. And the verse "You're gonna be nowhere; The lonliest kind of lonely; It may be rough going; Just to do your thing, the hardest thing to do..." Very fitting sentiments for someone stuck all alone in a fifty foot deep set from That Seventies Show.

I asked at the record store for this song, and they said people have been asking about it all day. They don't carry it. He seemed puzzled as to why there was suddenly such interest in it.

Don't worry I will still buy the album to make it not stealing!

As I write this I am listening to the song. Man the words sound creepy and fit so well with the charactor. I know music very well and this was a GREAT pick, nice job guys.

Cute! Campy! Evil!

Wow that could sell records even today. Mama Cass was so ahead of her time.

And she says the word "Special" many many times in the song.

It's one of those songs you have forgotten that you love until you hear it again. Also, having the song playing at the time that Desmond and Jack have guns trained on Locke gave it a very, very surreal quality. Like you all everybody, I've been humming it since Wednesday night.

If Mama Cass gave half of everything she ate to Karen Carpenter, they'd BOTH still be here today...

That song is from 1970, just after the Mamas and Papas split. Another super catchy tune of hers is called "Different", from the 'HR Puff n Stuff' series. You'll have that one rolling around in your brain for a few days as well (I call that phenomenon the "Devil's Jukebox").

Some other songs from that era certain to bring on the Devil's Jukebox:

"Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" - Edison Lighthouse
"I Woke Up in Love This Morning" - The Partridge Family
"I Want You Back" - Jackson 5
"Little Willy" - Sweet
"The Locomotion" - Grand Funk Railroad
"She's a Lady" - Tom Jones
"Jet" - Wings

*hugs thread* I love everyone here. I couldn't sleep Wednesday night because of that song! Every time I woke up it was in my head and now, if I just don't find it somewhere, I'll go completely insane and be with Hurley's friend. I did see that I can download the song from Yahoo music but I want to make sure it's a good copy.

It's not the entire song for me just "make your own kind of music " "make your own kind of music " over and over :ranting: :cursing: :bawling:

Bastards infected me too. Started singing it in the car on Friday while my mother was with me. Now she's singing it constantly. She doesn't even watch LOST regularly. Forget the hatch/island. The damn song needs to be quaranteened.

No, I'm not out of tune. The second stage of the infection causes you to sound just like Mama Cass....which really sucks for me, cuz I'm not a girl. The third stage of the infection causes you to download the guddam song...which I just have. For me, the infection is FATAL. But at least I can die being the type of guy who made his own type of music and who sang his own special song....even if nobody else sang along.

LOL. If you've been singing it...you've already been infected. It's only a matter of time before you download it. In EXTREME cases, the second stage of the infection forces you to go out an actually buy the album rather than download it. Just ask some of the poor bastards from this thread. They've got it BAD.

LMAO!!!!!! My mom watches the show too, and has a thing for singing something constantly, which is just plain embarrassing. :D And I am scared, because she missed the ep on Wednesday, and so has to catch the repeat. I am already infected :) and now she is going to torture me! I need help lol. This song is indeed the disease! :D

:rotflmao:

I agree. Unfortunately for me, I am at the stage where I am the MOST contagious and have infected all 3 daughters --- even the non-Lost watcher! (and no, I don't think she's really mine....)

It started out as a joke, but you can't fool around with this disease. It takes no prisoners. Now, whenever someone starts to hum the first bar we begin to cringe because we all know what will happen. We try valiantly to fight the urge through the first 3 lines, but the sickness compels us to join in and loudly sing the last line in chorus, "even if nobody else sings alooooong!" :whistling:

I haven't been this consumed by a song since "Let the Sunshine In" took possession of me in 1992 for 10 days.

I can't go back there! I won't!

Oh the horror, the horror.........

It was stuck in my head yesterday, and I even heard the part with the explosion and the big skip - that was a very ingenious way to reveal to us that he was actually in the hatch. Amazing!

Can't get it out of my head! It's infected me.

Can't get it out of my head! It's infected me.

Maybe that's why they had Desmond sealed into the hatch with a "quarantine" seal: to make sure the music didn't out and infect anyone else!

I was watching the eppy over to make sure I wasn't missing anything and my son (music major) comes from the other part of the house and says What's that song? I really like it! So you are right, it infects even those who aren't watching Lost.

Lockefan
09-27-2005, 08:50 AM
The song has been stuck in my head, too!!! Picture it: Lockefan in her Dilbertesque, Walkabout-episode cubicle, bursting forth with "Make your own kind of music, sing your own kind of song!". Yeah, I'm very popular with the co-workers *lol*!!!!!
:w00t:

On another note (no pun intended) about the possible symbolism and meaning of that song to the entire hatch "society", I pontificated further in this post but then decided to move that pontification lock, stock and barrel to the speculation forum, so check out my thread there. I'll spoiler-font the title because some folks don't choose to be able to see the subject lines in the spoiler forums, even the speculation forum, so here is the title if'n anyone wants to check it out: "Sinister Utopia?"

the music made me love the show even more. it was so evocative. made me wonder just how long old desmond has been down there. either he's a total music lover (playing vinyl only) or...he went down there long before CDs were invented....

I went to sleep with the song in my head last night, after tossing and turning FOREVER only to wake up this morning to:

whew, I feel a little better now...but the song's still here:frown:

If you all like this song so much, why do you want to rip off the artist (or her estate) by downloading it? It's only a dollar through iTunes...do the right thing and pay for stuff you enjoy.

They both even start the same way with that first word drawn out! I'll start singing the first song and suddenly halfway through the first sentence it morphs into the second.

Ok, this is getting scary.
