Was anyone but me secretly hoping that when Jack stood up to speak to the people when he returned from blowing the shaft (to calm everyone down.. give them hope) that the dynamite in his backpack just exploded showering everyone in pieces of jack..
everyone could have run off separately screaming into the jungle, separating everyone into sub groups (and getting some different character mixes)
then they could freak each other out annd go "lord of the files" on each other for another ep.

Dont get me wrong I love jacks characters, but for some reason i thought the creative team would just throw in something crazy and unexpected like that. :)

i remember the writters saying last season that there were enough characters around that even a main one could be chopped .. BAM.. but now that fans have so much love invested in a few main characters, its hard for them to do this..

Personally, I'd rather Kate blew up. :24: Evie is a great actress but Kate really bugs me. She's just so much like "I've got to do EVERYTHING to prove I'm ok." Blech! Grow up and get a life, gf!

Heh, if Jack was to die like that I think there would be some serious griping from the fans. However in the world of Lost that would be the straw that broke the camels back for the Lostaways. Sayid would have to step up and lead, but a good percentage of the people would follow Locke to God knows where. Jack provides balance, and right now that means going to war with Locke. I mean the Lostaways didnt even LIKE artz and they handled his death pretty poorly, thanks to Shannon.

Of the guys, I like Locke, Sawyer, Charlie, Sayid & Hurley (and Desmond). Of the gals, I like Claire and Danielle. Shannon is beginning to get to me so maybe this season I'll include her.

Wow. Why would he keep two stick of dynamite in his backpack? I didn't even realize he still had some until I read this thread.

I would have been okay with Jack going  because :sayid: and that would have given Sayid a chance to be the leader.

on one hand, I dont really liek Jack's character, but on the other hand the show wouldn't be the same without him, but on the other hand, that woudl've been funny :D

I think it's totally cool folks have their preferences  and do not have to like every single character, but is this necessary? I don't intend to mod *w*hore lol, just it gets disconcerting to constantly see threads that have to derogatorily bash Jack w/no constructive purpose.

Frankly I think his character is underappreciated. I think Jack brings a lot to the show & deserves more of a break than he gets. Then again I guess I can relate to the pressure he's under & emotional pain he's been through. :undecide:

The real question is:

Why Jack chooses to take the risk of bringing back the dynamite to the caves, now that the hatch is open??

btw I love the "fight club" sound of your thread title :wink1:

and don't mistake me, I think he is a great character with (we saw it one more time) exciting background... and we're not finished with that background I think...

Simple answer would be they may need it again. I doubt he's going to keep it "In" the caves.

Maybe we'll see later in a future episode why that dynamite will come in handy. It surely was a risk that Jack felt he could or should take, so there must be a reason. Otherwise I probably would have left what was left right there in the bushes somewhere near the hatch.

whereever tehy put it, it would be dangerous, if they hide them in a bush, adn someone hits them...I think putting them somewhere out of the way, where they know where they are is the safest thing...

I was thinking about this, too. Where are they gonna put the dynamite so that it will be safe from everyone else? Because there really isn't somewhere where the dynamite would be safe from everyone! Is there? :undecide:

banshee, I personally think that everyone on the show are excellent actors. I also think that this excellence is what makes us either like or dislike certain characters. If they were poor actors, we just wouldn't care. But because they are done so well, and so realisticly, we chose sides as we do in real life. It's a compliment to the actors that there is such a strong division between which characters we like and which we don't like. And, like in real life, we don't alwasy have a logical reason why we like or don't like someone. It's just chemestry sometimes. ;)

Hope that insight will help when you find other threads that say they don't care for Jack or anyother character.

I dunno about being the exploding backpack, but I wouldn't mind being just his regular backpack if it meant I'd get to cling to those shoulders :naughty:

*end fangirly-ness, lol*

Seeing how careful he was about the risk of the dynamite in E2, I doubt it was still in his bag at the caves .... what would seem to be most in character for him, would have been to put it somewhere out of the way and tell the rest of the group about it (so they know of it's danger and not end up sitting on it or waving it around saying "Gee, what's this? Could someone bring a torch closer so I can see?", lol) ...

As for the feeling of "waiting for the other shoe to drop" during his pep talk, what would have shocked/freaked me out would have been either having Christian's "ghost" show up in the background, or Ethan pop up saying the Lost equivalent of "Daddy's home! C'mon Charlie, gimme a hug!"

Love the Fight Club reference! I am Jack's medulla oblongata...

But, yeah, it would have been something if he had blown up. He bugs me. Him and his savior/martyr complex. Eeeesh.:drowsy:
Can't stand Kate, either.
