this leads me to think that ethan and desmond are (or were- if ethan is dead) taking the same injections and that a side effect (if not the main purpose) of them is great strength

this would further lead me to conclude desmond and ethan are from the same group and that desmond knows the same information and has the same motives as ethan (knew about crash, wanted claires baby etc).

it really isn't such a stretch to assume desmond and ethan are from the same group. how many different groups can one "deserted" island have?

You know, I was thinking the same thing when Kate was sucked down the hatch. Did you see how hard Locke was trying to keep the cable from being pulled? Yet it went down FAST, as if by machine almost. But I didn't see any wench there, nor did Desmond have time to hook one up. Was it him that pulled it with so much force?

there was quite the supply of 'serum' much more than just for two people. Even if Desmond took an injection a day. Are they 'super vitamins', vaccine for 'the illness', or just part of the psyc exp (drugs to keep him wired) either way he is a junkie and sould get along with Charlie...

Maybe this particular deserted Island has 6 groups on it: one group of 4 (the boat that kidnapped Walt), one group of 8, one group of 15, one group of 16, one group of 23 (the tail section) and one group of 42 (the main plane section). Desmond and Ethan's group got some experimental strength serum, while some other group, perhaps Danielle's got introduced to some virus and she's the only one that proved immune to it.

Just a theory I had.

Maybe if Ethan and Desmond were in there together, they wanted the baby so they would be able to train him to carry on in the bunker.

It's a good theory, pebblesbl, but if they wanted someone to train, it wouldn't just have to be a baby. Why wouldn't they have just gotten someone else to do it? An adult would be easier to train than a baby.

I hadn't thought of Ethan and Desmond being from the same group- good theories everyone! My mom was thinking it might have been steroids that Desmond was taking (the injection).

I also thought about Desmond's strength...with both the stadium comment and the force with which Kate was pulled through the hatch in mind.
