Welcome to Charlie’s Angels #2!!!

Our last thread was so popular, it grew to 220 pages! So it’s time to start a fresh thread for the beginning of Season 2! This is our second thread, and we hope it will be even more popular than the first!

As Charlie’s Angels, our main mission is to discuss everything Charlie Pace - his strengths and weaknesses, his humor and his struggles, and his relationships with other Lost characters. This is also a place to discuss Dominic Monaghan - his portrayal of Charlie, and his other roles.

We’re also a growing resource for all things Charlie and Dom. In this first post you’ll find a resource list with links to favorite and useful Lost, Charlie, and Dom related sites and artwork. If you have any Charlie related avatars, wallpapers, videos, or fanfic, please share them with us! Also, any Charlie or Dom related news or articles are appreciated. I'll be going back to the old thread and trying to find links to some of the art that was posted there soon.

Hostess:

Rock Goddess

This group was originally started by the wonderful Becks last season. Due to her often busy schedule, I’ve taken over the hostess duties for this season. I have gone through the 220 pages of our last thread and updated the long-forgotten member list. If I’ve accidentally left you off, please PM me and let me know. Also, some of us have special Angel nicknames. If you'd like one, let us know what and we'll add it.

Anyone is welcome to join the Angels - the more Charlie fans, the merrier. All you have to do is ask. :wink1: We’re really laid-back around here, all we ask is that you stay fairly on-topic, and keep this the fun, friendly group that it’s been for our first 220 pages. And please, no super-short, one or two word posts or chats - we like to stay on the mod’s good side.

A new thread
Time to spread some Charlie love...
I haven't been in this group for long... do you guys do group discussions after the episodes, or is this all about the greatness of Charlie/Dom???

:charlie:

Rock Goddess

Hey Myha! Welcome to the new thread. :)

We didn't used to have any kind of organized discussion after the new episodes. But we're hoping to change that. Hopefully, when we start to get more Charlie moments, Becks or myself (or anyone who has an interesting discussion question) will post some discussion topics, and hopefully plenty of people will contribute their thoughts. We're all about Charlie, both his funny side, and his deeper side. ;)

No problem. :) I thought it would be nice to have a list where we can easily find it. If you find any good Charlie, Dom, or Lost links or articles, please post them, and I'll add them to the resource list.

I haven't heard anything about an upcoming Charlie episode. I know that the writers have said that Charlie and Claire will come back into more prominence a bit further into the season - late October/November. And that sometime this season we're supposed to find out what really happened when they were taken. But it looks like we WILL have some good Charlie scenes coming up soon. The promo pictures for ep. 4 look promising.

I was just watching the new Lost special on the TV Guide Channel. While they were talking about filming in Hawaii, it kept cutting to a scene being filmed in the background. It was Charlie and Claire, sitting by a fire on the beach at night, with Turniphead's crib next to them. They were wearing the same clothes that they are in the ep. 4 promo pics. So, assuming it makes it into the episode, it looks like we might be getting a new Charlie & Claire scene, as well as Charlie and Locke!

Oh, and Eireann, I love your avatar! Gotta love Finding Nemo. :)

Yeah, they really should have left in that scene from GMA. That was a good Charlie scene, him explaining something to Jack. Let's hope he has some better stuff in tonight's episode.

Rock Goddess
09-28-2005, 06:48 PM
I know what you mean, Half Fling. Though during that deleted scene I was thinking, "Jack is having to get relationship advice from Charlie. Wow, he's really dense." :) Because let's face it, from what we've seen, Charlie doesn't have the best track record, lol.

I hope we at least get a little bit of Charlie tonight, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I figure most of it will be the raft boys, and any other screen time will probably be down in the hatch.

Just 2 hours and 15 minutes to go. Happy Lost Day!

Hmm, I was wrong. :) And happy to be so, we at least got a scene. I'll spoiler font for those who haven't seen it yet:

Yay for Charlie and Claire scenes! It was adorable when he was making faces at Aaron. :) And it definately showed she has some insight into him, calling him on how he always makes a joke when he doesn't want to give a straight answer. And that statue...well, at least it's still intact. Hopefully, going on the promo pics for the next two eps, Charlie will have a little talk with Locke about it.

I loved tonight's scene. By the way, I thought the Angels would like to know that Dom is scheduled as a guest on the Craig Ferguson Show Monday, October 10th.

Rock Goddess
09-29-2005, 03:44 AM
Oooh, thanks for the info, lostfan. :) I hadn't heard about that appearance. So far we have on our calender:

Fri. Oct. 7 - Leno
Mon. Oct. 10 - Ferguson

You know, I just remembered something....last time Dom was on the Tonight Show, Leno told Dom he should make his stand up comedy debut the next time he was on the show . Now, I know it probably won't happen, but if that did...well that would be priceless.

Oh wow that was a hard post to read. What exactly is larf? ...nevermind, I don't need to know. :drowsy:
Anyhow, I wanted to post that I enjoyed the brief interaction that we got with Claire and Charlie last night (and his oh-so-adorable baby faces). This character has a lot of potential and I sincerely hope to see it fleshed out this season.

Rock Goddess

Hey Christine, welcome back! :)

Charlie does have a lot of potential, I just hope they give him more of a chance to grow this season. The intereaction with Claire last night gives me hope - you could definately seen the growing conflict within him. And it also showed that Claire is far more perceptive about his nature than I think he realized. If he does relapse, he's got to realize that's she's no Lucy - Claire won't easily be lied to or fooled.

lostfan - I agree, Dom always does a great interview, no matter what show he's on. And did everyone see that Foxy is going to be on Oprah on Wed.? It's about time she had someone from Lost on her show - I just wish it could've been more of the cast, including Dom.

~ RG I agree about the Oprah thing. She should go to Hawaii and do a show with the whole cast. She did a Desperate Housewives show last year.

Rock Goddess
10-01-2005, 02:19 AM
Welcome back, Liz! It's good that you have more time now. That really bites that you missed the first part of Adrift...maybe you know someone who taped it? If not, I'm sure they'll show it again soon - you know how they are with repeats.

Half Fling - Charlie's part in Adrift was definately better...less angry, anyway. And I was actually happy that they went ahead and addressed the statue issue, it shows that they're not totally putting Charlie's story on the backburner. Personally, I'd like to see Charlie's reaction to what's in the hatch...remember how he was going on and on to Claire about food he missed? I'd love to see his reaction to the candybars and cookies and things - it might take his mind off the statue for a bit, anyway. And surely Desmond has some peanut butter down there, of the real variety. :wink1:

Lostfan - She did a couple of DH shows last year. I actually remember hearing over the summer (a few weeks before Katrina hit, actually) that Oprah was vacationing in Hawaii. I kept hoping it was a working vacation, and that maybe, just maybe she'd visit the set of Lost. I knew it probably wasn't, but hey, at least we're getting Foxy on wednesday, better than no one from Lost at all.

I really love that last thought, Lostfan. I kept thinking after I saw Desmond - "dude, it would've been awesome if they'd gotten Billy to play the part, imagine finding HIM in the hatch." But it would be great to see how Desmond connects to some of the other survivors, and some kind of connection through Billy in a Charlie flashback would be perfect.

There should be lots of Charlie in Everybody Hates Hugo next week. Charlie and Locke interaction, Charlie and Hurley, possibly Charlie and Claire. Sorry I assumed that "Hooligans" was Elijah's new film but I was mistaken. Last night on Leno he promoted "Everything is Illuminated." Looks good... a sort of dorky role.

He looked pretty adorable. His hair was black with long sideburns ( not the greatest look for him if you ask me) and he had a little goatee. Jay teased him a lot but he took it in stride. He told a story about how he is finally living on his own and enjoys doing laundry. OK end of my Elijah update since this is a Dom thread. I haven't heard about any other press appearances, lostfan.

He was great on the Tonight Show - short segment, but hilarious as usual. Between the sports bar story and the driver's license photo...too funny.

Looks like we'll be getting more Charlie in episode 6, too. Here's the synopis (spoilerfonted for the unspoiled):

LOST - "Abandoned" - Sawyer's wound becomes life-threatening as he, Michael and Jin make their way through the interior of the island with the tail section survivors. Meanwhile, Shannon is once again haunted by visions of Walt, and Charlie becomes jealous of Locke's interest in Claire, on "Lost," WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26

Well....that should be interesting. :undecide: I'm not quite sure what I think of that yet.

The Ferguson interview was really funny, though I wish they'd actually talked about the show a bit.

Dom is on the cover of Inside TV, I saw it the other day at the grocery store. Actually it's Dom and Evie...it's a paparazzi shot of them together. They look really cute together, but it sucks that they've got the stupid press plastering them all over the front of a magazine when they don't want to discuss it.

BTW, I know some don't like the whole Dom and Evie thing. But this is NOT the place to slam them, so please don't do so in here. We're a fan group for Charlie and Dom, and quite frankly, who Dom is or isn't with is no one's business but his own. So let's try to keep the discussion positive. :)

well said Rockgoddess. We don't need this turning into a gossip thread like the abc boards. This is a Charlie appreciation thread and should stay that way.

The interview was very funny. I Knew Dom would have fun with Craig. No mention of the Speedo Dom's father wore on Holiday or the "I am my Father's son" comment. I literally Gafawed when he said that.

That's cool.

If its called that that means Charlie ACTUALLY goes back to the Herion. I just hope that he knows what he's doing. But then again I don't think Charlie would considering the fact he's never really gotten over his drug addiction. Or so I think.

I was definately glad to see more of Charlie...yay for REAL peanut butter! :)

Though my favorite bit was the rant to Hurley..."Yeah, and I'm worth 300 trillion dollars back home...baby/chocolate lollipops!!!" comment. Though I really hate it when they have Charlie being nasty to Hurley, I couldn't help but laugh at that part.

I'll definately be happy for another Charlie flashback, but if that's the title, I dread it at the same time. I'm already bracing myself for another wave of Charlie hate...you know, the "oh no, not another useless junkie flashback!" whining that went on forever after Homecoming. I'm holding out hope that though "old habits" die hard, he'll keep fighting it....or at least there will be more character growth from it, and we'll get something new from the flashbacks.

I'm also bracing myself for backlash from Charlie haters, especially if he starts using again. I'll just have to take refuge here if that happens.

Yes, Charlie's best scenes lately have all been with Aaron around. :) Nice to see him utilizing that baby carrier. And that he's managing to keep Aaron quiet without anyone's help...the kid is obviously comfortable with Charlie now.

Yes, we can all take refuge here when the inevitable backlash happens, we've weathered the storm here before. At least we have this one pleasant place to discuss Charlie without being insulted.

I've been thinking about changing the thread title...giving it a subtitle. I was going to do it in the beginning when I started it, but I didn't want to without asking everyone's opinion first. I'm thinking - "Charlie's Angels #2 - Still on the Bloody Island." But I wanted to hear your input first.

Rock Goddess
10-14-2005, 03:52 AM
I'm glad you like the idea, lostfan. I thought, maybe with a more amusing title, we might be able to attract some newer members to our group. There have to be more Charlie appreciators out there who need a safe place to call home. :)

At the beginning of the season, when we started this thread, I said we'd have discussion topics every week. Our mission for season 2 is to show that not only are we a fun group, but that we also take Charlie's character and his role amongst the survivors seriously, and can view him objectively. Basically trying to prove all of the "Charlie fans are all fangirls who think he can do no wrong" people dead wrong, because I'm so sick of hearing that. While admittedly there are plenty of those out there, it still sucks being stereotyped! (Sorry, I just got finished reading a post like that on the ep thread  ...end of rant.:) )

So, since we FINALLY got a reasonable amount of Charlie-time this week, I thought I'd post a few questions, based on discussions (or flat out arguments) I've seen in some of the episode threads. I want the Angels' opinions. :)

1. When Charlie asked Hurley about the food, all he asked for was peanut butter for Claire. But did he do it for purely benevolent reasons? Was he just trying to impress Claire and "score points" by being about to provide the peanut butter? Or was he asking for it to provide her with happiness and nourishment? Or both?

2. So far, Charlie and Hurley's friendship has been fairly one-sided - Charlie seems to have benefitted most from it. Hurley helped Charlie catch the fish for Shannon, he listened to him confess his addiction without judging him, and despite Charlie's manipulative behavior to get the peanut butter (the old "what about the baby?" guilt trip), Hurley gave it to him anyway, when he could've held a grudge. He also let Charlie's "fat guy hoarding the food" comment slip in CM last season, and has put up with Charlie's continued refusal to believe Hurley won the lotto.

Hurley is probably the most well-liked person on the island, and could befriend just about anyone he wanted to. So why does he continue to work on his friendship with Charlie? What quality is it that Hurley sees in him that makes him want to keep being friends with Charlie?

3. Going back to the last question, what could Charlie gain by opening up more and truly becoming Hurley's "friend" - really listening to Hurley and making it a two-sided friendship? Will Hurley's friendship be instrumental in helping Charlie get through the forthcoming battle with his demons? And could that friendship end up being even more useful than Locke's mentoring?

4. Charlie wants to be treated as an adult, not like he's at the "kid's table." But is he really ready for that kind of responsibility? And are the writers red-shirting Charlie? His speech about the top-dogs being a clique and keeping secrets from the rest sounds a lot like a certain Arzt who went boom.

An easy one: What was your favorite Charlie moment of EHH? And what was your least favorite thing that Charlie did or said?

I really hope ya'll answer, I'm excited to see what your opinions are! I'll answer them later...it's almost 3am here, and I got out of bed to type these out.:28:

Rock Goddess, Here we go:
1. I think trying to get the peanut butter for Claire was part of Charlie's need to prove he can follow through. He promised Claire peanut butter and he was finally able to provide it. I also think he genuinely cares for Claire now and that is part of it too.
2. I think Charlie probably reminds Hurley of his buddy in EHH. The humor side of their personalities is similar, that plus Hurley and Charlie are about the same age. Don't we tend to seek out friends near our own age?
3. I think Hurley is the type of person who could be a true friend. Charlie really needs that. We know Locke has an agenda, and Jack with his savior complex mainly sees Charlie as someone he's responsible for. I think Charlie really should try harder with Hurley.
4. I don't really think Charlie will be ready for the responsibility he wants until he faces the heroin demon once and for all. I hope its soon. I really hope the writers aren't red shirting Charlie, but I have my concerns.
5. fave moment: peanut butter of course, least favorite: Charlie's continued refusal to believe Hurley about the money.

Ok fellow angels, someone else's turn. I know you are out there.

stircrazy
10-15-2005, 12:38 AM
1. Charlie wanted to provide the peanut butter for Claire to prove that he was not useless and that he could provide for her. I thought it was odd that he didn't demand powdered milk for the Aaron. The Peanut Butter was symbolic.

2.Charlie and Hurley are both, sort of, fun loving, free spirited guys. They connected on that sort of level and became friends. The are like Laurel and Hardy or Martin and Lewis.

3. I don't know how being open with Hurley would help Charlie. Having a friend is always good but at this point in his life Charlie NEEDS a mentor. Unfortunately I do not trust Locke's judgment very much these days.

4. I totally know what Charlie means about "being at the kids table" I always feel that way when I am part of a group. I usually end up taking the Sawyer route and do my own thing. Since Charlie has the chosen responsibilities of Claire and Aaron now he has to step up, be heard and be part of the decision making group. Red shirting? NEVER!

Charlie carrying Aaron does it for me every time. Charlie guilt tripping Hurley wasn't cool but if I were on that island and people were keeping food from me I would be the same way.

OK. Fairly trite answers but I did my best.

Rock Goddess
10-15-2005, 01:15 AM
You both gave excellent answers! :) I really like hearing your opinions, it helps hearing different perspectives.

Ok, now for my answers:

Or both?

I really think it was both. I was really shocked in the episode thread to see people arguing either/or on this one...they seemed to think he either had a selfish agenda, or was being purely selfless, and nothing inbetween. Personally, I do think it was a mixed motive. He wanted to keep his promise and provide the peanut butter for Claire...that's one of Charlie's great self-esteem problems, that in the past he's been unable to provide and take care of people. The PB was a small token, but meant a lot to his own self-worth, being able to provide it. I think he also knew it would make Claire happy, and the happier and more well-nourished she is, the healthy and happier both she and Aaron will be. But Charlie's not stupid...he also knew that it would endear him even more to Claire, that it would score him more points. Ah, the power of one small jar of peanut butter. :)

I agree with you both. One is the age thing. And Charlie's humor does seem similar to his friend Johnny's. They both are fairly laid back....Jack's always running around saving people, Locke's off forcing valuable life-lessons on people and sacrificing recruits to the island....Sayid's always fixing something or taking Shannon for picnics. And Kate's usually to be found saying "I'm coming with you!" to one of the three above. Hurley and Charlie both want to be helpful in whatever way they can, and a lot of time that means taking care of camp business...fishing, getting firewood, helping people move, getting water....I think they've bonded over that. Plus, Hurley must see something in Charlie - Dom often refers to Charlie as a "bad good guy." I think Hurley is the sort to recognize that beneath Charlie's bad traits, there really is a good heart.

I think to battle his addiction, Charlie is going to have to have a good support system...and Hurley is very important to that. He obviously will need Claire's friendship, love and support. And I agree that he needs a mentor - though personally, I vote Rose for that position. Locke always has a personal agenda, where Rose is just kind and says what she believes. But I think he definately needs Hurley - he's not judgemental, and apparently has had his share of personal problems. We still don't know WHY Hurley was in the psych ward, but maybe whatever treatment or knowledge he gained there, any experience with handling emotional or self-esteem issues, could be a real help to Charlie. First Charlie has to want to help himself...but then he'll need the KNOWLEDGE of how to control his emotional and self-esteem demons. Not something Jack of Locke are going to be much help with. The drugs just mask and numb that pain and those problems, and having a good friend who might understand some of that would be very good for Charlie.

I understand his frustration there...I hate it when people talk down to me, or try to make decisions for me. But I do think it's a hard to balance situation. I think Charlie needs some of the responsibility....if he has something to do, a sense of purpose, it will help keep him concentrating on recovery. Also, I think treating him like a child brings out the childishness in him. Charlie wants to prove himself worthy of the group...give him some responsibility and he will try the best he can. BUT...until he learns to balance his own issues and control his addiction, too much resposibility could push him to using, too. He needs it, but in baby steps.

As for red-shirting - I really, really hope not. It's just the similarity to Arzt's complaints kind of gave me a chill. But maybe the fact that it's CHARLIE, someone Jack, Kate, Locke, etc. knows, bringing these issues up to the Island Inner Circle, maybe that will make them actually hear it. His complaints are entirely valid - keeping secrets and not letting their fellow survivors know the truth or make their own decisions is really a big flaw in their group.

An easy one: What was your favorite Charlie moment of EHH? And what was your least favorite thing that Charlie did or said?

Favorite - Real Peanut Butter. :)
Least Favorite - It's a tie...his continuing refusal to believe Hurley, and saying that he got Aaron back from Danielle - I would respect that achievement more if he'd acknowledge that Sayid was a BIG part of the success of Operation: Turniphead.

I had another idea for one...a play on the old "Choosy Junkies Choose JIF" still avatar I made ages ago. It's going to be more like a commercial though..."Dharma Brand Peanut Butter: Now in Imaginary, Smooth, and Chunky varities. Pick some up at your local Hatch-Mart Today!" Or something like that.

Ok, time for some shameless pimping. For anyone here who is also a fan of Rose and Bernard, I've started a new ship for them. I thought I'd post this here for the Angels, since many of us have loved Rose and her scenes with Charlie. It's there to appreciate Rose, Bernard, their relationship (as well as their interactions with our other survivors) and the actors who play them. So if you'd like to show support for them, and help us show TPTB that you like these characters and would like to see more of them, please take a look. :)

I know lostfan, it's wrong. :( Not even a glimpse tonight.

I know the writers said for us to be patient, that there would be far more Charlie closer to mid-season...but I'm not a very patient person. And I wonder if TPTB are cutting back because they're not seeing the Charlie-support there was in the beginning. With all of the hate for him that's been going around since Homecoming, maybe they're not hearing the voices of those of us who still love the character.

I would be so depressed if Charlie became another Boone...that death was so pointless in the end. I know Dom has said that if they ever decide to kill him, he wants to go out guns blazing, not some fall off a cliff and no one cares death.

We need to find a way to let TPTB know some of us still love the character. I don't know what, but something. I couldn't stand a Boone, Pt. 2. Even if they go for Dark Charlie...anything to get a real storyline going.

I agree with stircrazy that we still have a lot yet to learn about Charlie. For example, most of the characters we've heard something about their parents. Ususally culminating in they have "daddy issues" and their moms tend to be shrews. But the only one of Charlie's family we know of is Liam. Charlie mentioned his mother once, when he was talking about his dreams with Claire, but that was it. I wonder if his parents are dead, and Liam raised him, or if there isn't some other family history that explains his obsessive need to be loved and needed.

Yep, the more active we are, and the more we voice our opinions, the better chance we have of TPTB seeing the Charlie-love that's still out here. And hopefully they'll provide us with many more Charlie scenes to discuss in the near future. :)

Here's something I was thinking about earlier. With the Tailies heading for Cavetown, what will Charlie's reaction to them be? Cindy the flight attendant is with them...and she's the one who was suspicious of him and chased Charlie through the plane in the Pilot. Just curious what effect you think that'll have on Charlie, or how Charlie is going to deal with the presence of these strangers.

~ RG

I wondered about the Charlie/Cindy interaction as well. I'm sure that could be an awkward scene. I hope the writers address that.

Rock Goddess
10-25-2005, 04:40 AM
Another interesting posibility is what will happen with the heroin. Will he succumb because of his jealousies and protectiveness? Or will it still be intact when the tailies finally make it to cavetown?

My boyfriend and I were discussing that earlier. We know Sawyer is going to be on death's door by the time they make it there, and Jack is going to have to try and do something for him. But how is Jack going to ease his pain? Maybe there might be something strong enough in Jack's stock, or in the hatch. But if there isn't, would Charlie come forward with the statue? While it's certainly not a good treatment, small doses for a short time could be helpful in easing the pain long enough for Jack to perform some kind of procedure. I can see the scene my boyfriend put forth...Charlie (after much deliberating) telling Jack he has an answer, and handing Jack the statue. Jack looking all confused, asking of Charlie wants him to pray or something. Charlie smashes the statue, revealing the heroin.

The really interesting part of that would be the fallout. What will it do to Jack's relationship with Charlie, if he believes Charlie was keeping it for himself, keeping the secret of the plane's cargo? And then what further reprocussions will it have between Jack and Locke (and Sayid), since they kept the secret of the heroin, too.

What would Claire's reaction be, knowing Charlie hadn't used it, but kept it in his posession with the intent to possibly starting using again in the future. Cindy could come into play there also, already thinking the worst of him from her suspicions on the plane. And what would Charlie's reaction to the suspicion be...to try and prove himself, or to be angry and defensive. After all, there's still a plane load out there, even if he gave one statue up.

See, there are plenty of ideas for interesting Charlie plots...let's hope something interesting comes to fruition on the show soon, not just another "I feel sorry for myself, I'll snort heroin now" repeat storyline.

Does any one know...
I had herad that episode 8 was supposed to be about Charlie and entitled "Old Habits" but then I heard it was about Ana Lucia and entitled "Forgiveness" but then I heard it IS about Charlie but titled "Forgiveness" so I'm confused.

I think that the Old Habits spoilers were false. Just there to torture us I guess. The latest news is that episode 8 is about Ana Lucia. I think that's risky during a sweeps period. She doesn't have the established fan base that Charlie does. I wonder when we will see a Charlie episode?

lostfan...If the AICN spoilers are right, there won't be a Charlie flashback until January, at least. :( I know AICN is usually right, but this is one time I hope they're dead wrong. We'll need more than our DVDs and some Reese Cups to sustain us if that's the case.

Maybe we should have a project to get us through this break, at any rate. Not really a project, but to relive some of our favorite Charlie moments, how about everyone post a few of their favorite Charlie pictures, or other Charlie-art you've made or found. If they're not going to give us much new Charlie, we'll just have to make our own collage. :)

Unfortunately, AICN was right.

Episode 7 is "The Other 48 Days", dealing with what happened to the tailies.
Episode 8 is "Collision", and deals with Ana Lucia.
Episode 9 is "What Kate Did" - the title says it all.
Episode 10 hasn't been disclosed yet, but it's reportedly supposed to cover flashbacks pre-crash on the island.
Episode 11 might be Sawyer.

So it sounds like it will definately be January before Charlie gets a flashback, as those cover November sweeps and maybe 1 or 2 in December. :(

Heya stircrazy!

Cute story....I babysit my neighbor's kids, and my boyfriend and I took them trick-or-treating out at the university campus tonight. The fraternities and sororities always have a safe trick-or-treat thing for the kids. Anyway, some of the college kids that were participating were dressed up as the cast of Lost. They had a blonde guy with dimples, a black shirt (complete with gunshot wound) and black shades as Sawyer - he really did look the part, and he kept nicknaming everyone. And they had a Kate, and a Jack, pretty much everyone...and a Charlie! I think they made the shortest frat guy dress up as him, lol. Complete with striped shirt, hoodie, and fingertapes. They had fake cardboard plane wreckage, eerie jungle monster sounds...the works. It really cracked me up, it was too perfect.

We didn't see the Lost group until we were about to head home from the campus. :(

Oh, and "Charlie" also had peanut butter, and another girl was a pregnant Claire. It was priceless. :)

It was nice to see more substantial Charlie scenes tonight. He also seemed more mellow even when scolding Claire or expressing issues with Locke.

stircrazy
11-10-2005, 01:25 AM
I've had men talk to me that way and I umm... wouldn't have taken it as politely as Claire did. I think Locke putCharlie in his place with the "responsible, heroin addict comment."

Locke definitely earned points with me there.

I still love you DOM!!! Charlie you can make it up to me. ;)

Rock Goddess
11-10-2005, 01:44 AM
I agree, stircrazy. As much as I love Charlie, if he spoke to me like that, I would've handled it far less nicely than Claire. Granted, Charlie was more toned down than usual...but still. And I loved that Locke put him in his place...I wanted Claire to ask him who died and made him Super Dad.

That being said, I loved the scenes. We're finally getting a storyline, not just cutesy stuff. It's nice to see Claire struggling with being a mom...and I do think she was having a bit of a flashback to the psychic's "raised by another" speech, with the way Charlie kept trying to take control.

And Charlie's self-esteem issues are back with a vengeance. He only feels "worthy" if he's doing something he sees as useful, and that's being transferred into his constant care of Aaron. It's great that he wants to help, but he needs to step back and ask himself why he's doing it...because of his love for Claire, or because it makes him feel useful and is a diversion from the stash.

Locke is definately going to play an interesting role. I thought his line about babies needing to feel constricted, while adults need freedom, was VERY prophetic. Claire is getting to the point where she's not a child anymore, she's an adult with a baby of her own, and if Charlie wants to be with her, he'll have to give her space and freedom. Because right now, he's treating her like a child, keeping her wrapped up...ironic, considering he hates when people treat him like a child. Locke cares about both Charlie and Claire, and it will be interesting to see what kind of role he plays in this over the coming weeks. :)

Yay for the return of a storyline!

~ RG

lostfan4ever
11-10-2005, 02:36 AM
Locke did seem kind of paternal to both Charlie and Claire tonight didn't he? Like he is challenging them to look at what this relationship is. He also seems to know that Charlie needs to face his heroin temptation on his own this time. Locke could have asked Charlie to hand over the heroin like he did last season, but he didn't. Instead he made Charlie think about his status as an addict.

Rock Goddess
11-11-2005, 01:12 AM
I agree that Locke is handling it the right way. A friend asked me earlier why Locke didn't just take the statue away. Locke knows Charlie has to make his own choices for him to continue with recovery. Charlie has to want to stay clean, and make that choice for himself, not for anyone else, or by being forced into it. If anything, it would be a set-back for Charlie if Locke tried to intervene...it all goes back to the moth analogy again. Charlie has to think and act for himself as much as he needs to let Claire think and act for herself.

~ RG

lostfan4ever
11-11-2005, 01:19 AM
Well said RG. If Charlie is ever to give up the drugs for good, he has to face his demons and make the choice himself and for himself. I've never known a drug addict yet who stayed clean after being forced into rehab, recovery etc.

I am pleased that Charlie was in the spotlight more this week. It definately showed more of his character.

I think that Charlie might be over doing it with the responsibilty of the baby. I am absolutely sure his heart is in the right place and he cares deeply for Claire, but he needs to give her some space to explore her relationship with Aaron. This over zealous concern may come from his issues of not wanting to let anyone down again.

Charlie is a wonderful character and I really hope that he gets the chance to shin, he certainly deserves it. I think that Locke will be a major factor in keeping Charlie on the straight and narrow and a very strong bond wil form between them.

lostfan4ever
11-14-2005, 12:22 AM

He and Claire had another arguement or fight that makes him look like he is sad or something. Or it could possibly be that he's ran out of peanut butter. :p Only joking, but maybe something happened and Claire left him all by himself making him get his guitar for another "addiction." or whatever.

Rock Goddess

Yes, I thought he looked kinda sad too.

I think you're probably close with that idea, Becky. Especially after the last somewhat strained Charlie/Claire interaction we saw. But, I will say that I think it's good he has his guitar to turn to, and maybe he should try that more often (and not just because I love those scenes). It's obvious that music was once a great outlet for Charlie, and the island gives him that opportunity again...to enjoy the music without the lure of fame. And it gives him an alternative source of distraction, something separate from Aaron and Claire.

I also wonder what impact the arrival of the tailies will have on Charlie. These are the discussion questions I was thinking of this week:

He was so certain that the raft guys would get them rescued at the end of last season...what impact will the knowledge that they'll be on the island indefinately have on Charlie?

What effects/interactions might the individual tailies themselves have on Charlie? Will Bernard's arrival give him hope in Rose's faith? Eko seems to be a very spiritual, religious type of guy, will Charlie form a bond with him? And Libby is a psychologist - do you think she might be able to help Charlie really start the true recovery process?

~ RG

lostfan4ever

I'm not so sure about Libby. Somehow she seems suspicious to me. I like the rest of your questions though, especially about the raft. Charlie was so sure it would work.

Rock Goddess
11-20-2005, 12:34 AM
I agree that there's something...off, about Libby. I don't particularly trust her, but I do wonder if she could be of some help.

And I think the raft guys returning is going to have a profound effect on Charlie. He was all set to get off the island, head back to LA, score a record deal, record Monster Eats the Pilot ...have Claire and Aaron stay with him. But now he's going to have to come to terms with the fact that those things won't be happening in the near future, if at all. And he's found the Mary statues since then...it's a toss up where his priorities might go. Should be interesting, nonetheless.

Yummy. Thanks. Hey, is anyone else here pissed off that there seem to be quite a few people on the boards who think Charlie is really evil, working with the Others and knows more about Ethan and the abduction than he's letting on? I think its a stretch. I think people tend to judge him too harshly and don't really understand him.

Rock Goddess
11-22-2005, 12:23 AM
I agree that people tend to judge Charlie too harshly, pacejunkie. What annoys me most is when people write him off as "annoying" or "useless" - but they don't bother to really think about his circumstances, or even try to understand his point of view or motivations. Is Charlie annoying sometimes? Yep. Selfish? Most certainly. But he's also an addict with no reliable resources for help, who's doing the best he knows how.

As far as the "Charlie is evil" crowd goes...they don't piss me off that much. But then again, I'm not opposed to Charlie having a substantial dark side, as long as it means Dom has a good, interesting storyline to play off of. I'd love for him to have the opportunity to show Charlie's more dark, serious, dramatic side - and if they did go a "Dark Charlie" route, and if they did it well, I think it could be brilliant with Dom's talent. As far as Charlie knowing more about Ethan and the abduction, it's not impossible, especially on this show. But I agree some people are so vociferously "Evil Charlie!" and have such wacked out theories on how he HAS to be bad, it can get very annoying. I just try to ignore the ones who only see Charlie as a bad person. :)

Well said, RG. I agree and have no problem seeing Charlie as deeply flawed and I even liked him as a druggie. That the character has an edge is really cool, I just think it's more complicated than simply saying he's an Other in disguise. Personally I think all the stuff with Claire last year was nice but was getting a little too cutesy. I'm not necessarily a C/C shipper and would prefer to see Charlie become an interesting character rather than island daddy, with or without Claire. I don't care if the two get together or not.

My favorite messed up Charlie moments? Picking up Claire's dairy (and putting it down and picking it up...) and reading Hurley's note for the bottle the second he told him not to. The boy has NO impulse control! I love it.

Charlie and the diary is like me and the spoiler section.

I totally agree with you, pacejunkie. Charlie is by no means one dimensional, and a lot of the time people divide into two camps...either they think Charlie is adorable, or they think he's evil. The whole "Other in disguise" is just too easy of an answer for Lost, I think. And so is Charlie just becoming the island daddy. That's why I LOVE this show...every character is multi-dimensional, none of them are just cardboard cut-out stereotypes.

And while I do ship C/C, I agree that it was getting too cutesy. That's why I loved the Peanut Butter scene in EHH. It seemed like a nice bookend for the C/C "honeymoon" period. That scene was like the writers saying "ok, the mellow part of the ride is over, it was fun, it was nice, but hang on because the REAL ride is about to start." I'd love it if they get together eventually, but I want a real thrill ride first...something compelling, dramatic, with all the ups and downs of a really interesting story. A story that's going to allow Charlie to grow and become even more compelling.

lostfan, I'd heard that Dom was mentioned in the People's Sexiest Man issue, but I haven't gotten it yet. I thumbed through it while I was in line at the grocery store (I hate going there so close to Thanksgiving! And I STILL managed to forget stuff I needed.), but must have missed Dom in it. Showing Charlie in the promo to make us think he would have a signifiicant part in the episode was wrong. They know that Dom fans are waiting and hoping.... and getting annoyed.

I agree. Eight episodes and Charlie is still just in the background. What do we as fans need to do to get the writers attention? It was nice to see a Churlie scene though.

I was pretty disappointed at the lack of Charlie face time. Although I do have to say I loved the ep. I really miss those Charlie scenes. One thing though is that Charlie seemed more like his old self. Loved the scene with Hurley. I'm thinking that Charlie is actually less annoying so long as he stays away from Claire. Hmmm........Maybe what I need is more Charlie AND less Claire.

When Charlie shows up on the screen I get this big spontaneous grin on my face, which slowly fades into a disappointed frown when I realize he isn't going to say more than 5 words.

I'm feeling the disappointment, too. But I agree that at least the bits of Charlie we got seemed positive. He was finding other distractions for himself, which shows he's not constantly hovering over Claire. First the golf scene with Hurley and Kate (always love the Churlie interaction)...and then he was just sitting around, strumming his guitar, so he is finding some solace in the music.

But my favorite bit....Charlie hugging Jin. It was adorable...I was so afraid he was going to be terribly disappointed, with the high hopes he had for the raft, but he seemed so genuinely happy to see Jin home and safe. It reminded me of the nice Charlie and Jin moments we had last season, which made me happy. That and that he was there to see Rose and Bernard's reunion, maybe that'll boost his faith, knowing Rose was right all along. I just love seeing Charlie interacting with people other than Claire, acting like a real part of the group...I wish we'd get more of that.

I'm still sick of them teasing us with promises...and no sign of Charlie in the promos for next week, either. :(

Oh, I'm frustrated too. :( I'm just trying to put a good spin on a disappointing situation.

As for our short but sweet Charlie time....that opening shot of Charlie on the beach with the guitar was absolutely beautiful. I hope there's a good screencap of it, because it might be my new favorite shot of Dom.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of, Becky! Thanks! There was something about the lighting in that little scene...I haven't been very inspired for avatars lately (lack of Charlie and all) but when I was watching, that really struck me as a beautiful, avatar-inspiring little moment. Don't know what I'll do with it, but I'll come up with something.

That Episode 11 will be ANOTHER Jack episode!! :censored: :furious:

Ok, I've never used so many angry smilies before, but that warrants them! Jack gets another flashback this season (2 this season, 5th total) before Charlie, Claire, Sayid, or Sawyer even get their first for Season 2?? Are they TRYING to make me bitter?

Ok, end of rant. But that's just not right, ya'll.

Dom is so cute and hot at the same time. I get distracted and forget to pay attention to what's going on in the scene. Have to tell myself to stop looking at his arms... so tan and defined ... and his jeans fit sooo nicely..... See how Charlie deprived I am.

That spoiler made me want to rant as well. I guess it would help if TPTB gave us some info when we will have a Charlie episode.

Maybe that's my most bitter point of all. They keep telling us to be patient, it's coming up soon. But those promises fuel the foilers...people keeping posting fake titles (I've seen, what - 4 or 5 different ones for Charlie eps so far) and posting fake premises. If they'd just say, "Ok, episode so-and-so will be Charlie centric, this is the title" then I'd be happy to patiently wait for it. But they're fueling the rumors by dragging out any kind of confirmation, which just makes the wait worse. :undecide: Oh well, it's Lost...I should be used to this by now, really.

Stircrazy, I sympathize with the deprivation. I know I got hung up on that opening shot for that scene...I love his hair now, it's better longer, how it hangs over his eyes a bit.

pacejunkie

I like it long too, except they need to trim the part that hangs in his eyes. Just a little, no one has to know. He looked deep in thought in that screencap. I agree I like his interaction with Hurley and Jin. Does anyone else think he just needs to stay away from Claire and he'll be fine?

Rock Goddess
11-24-2005, 06:28 PM
I think it wouldn't hurt if he maintained a bit of distance from Claire, at least for a bit. But I don't think if he just stays away from her, he'll be fine either. It's not Claire that's causing the problems, it's Charlie's own psychological issues, his need to take care of someone.

Through season 1, Claire was very childlike...she was perfectly ok with Charlie taking care of her. But now she's had a child of her own, and is becoming more free-thinking and adult. She needs space and freedom, room to grow and do things on her own. Room which Charlie hasn't been giving her.

There's also the fact that Charlie has in large part replaced his heroin addiction with Aaron and Claire. They keep him occupied, give him something to focus on other than the Virgin Mary in his backpack. But that's not healthy for either party. It will only end up making Claire feel more smothered, and it won't solve Charlie's problem. I think he needs to take time and and really take a long look at himself...at whatever pain causes him to depend on the drugs, whatever it is that drives his constant need to feel relevant and useful. Charlie needs to recognize and acknowledge those issues. Until he does, the cycle will continue; whether it's Claire, the drugs, or someone/something else, he'll continue his pattern of behavior.

I'm still a hopeless romantic when it comes to Charlie and Claire, but I do think a lot has to happen before they can have a mature relationship. I do hope we see some growth for both characters, but who knows on this show.

Haven't seen much of Charlie in the last few episodes. But I really loved how he welcomed Jin back. I thought that was very sweet. I really had a tear in my eye (well maybe a few more:biggrin: ) at that scene.

I liked that it was the second time in a row now you've seen him on his own and not hanging around Claire and the baby. I like him much better that way. And I loved the scene with Kate. I wonder if the writers are responding to the fact that the viewers have been finding him really annoying and decided to pull back on that. He hasn't been annoying at all since Abandoned.

We've come close with a hobbit brother (also Dom's former roommate Mackenzie Astin). I have mixed feelings about a LOTR star cameo. It's hard to buy into the show when people are on with such familiar faces. It seems too contrived.

I'll spoiler font in case. I'm really excited to see what those promo pics are all about. It looks like Charlie's going to be confronted by Eko about the statue and its contents. Was that one of the skeletons from the drug plane Eko and Charlie were looking at?

pacejunkie
12-16-2005, 08:30 AM
Looks to me like Eko breaks the statue (is it the one Charlie had?). Finds out it's Charlie's. Confronts him (he looks angry) and demands to be taken to the drug plane. They go and see the dead priest on the way. They reach the plane at night and we see Charlie holding another statue and deep in thought.
My questons are as follows:

1. Where does the preview fit in with the smoke monster? Is that on their way to the plane or their way back?
2. With everyone now aware of the drugs, how is Charlie ever going relapse like I hoped he would (c'mon, it would be great drama, you know you want to see it too). Now there's gonna be alot of eyes on him.
