The actor playing Desmond is not listed as a guest star (at least not on IMDb) in this episode, though. What's that about?

Actors can appear uncredited if a credit would be considered a spoiler or giveaway to the greater good. Which makes me think that maybe Desmond appears in other episodes, like maybe in the background, ala Alfred Hitchcock...

Ok now wait....let me see if I am understanding this clip correctly....Sawyer FAKED being shot to escape and helps Michael on the raft thus becoming a hero AND Desmond KNOWS Locke from more than just peering down the hatch?

Good point, but why show the guy in the promo if it's supposed to be a "big" surprise? Seems a bit counterproductive to me.

Concerning the first part as to what happened to Sawyer:

No, he certainly didn't fake it. When he pulls up Michael on the remains of the raft Sawyer clearly screams in pain. Also, if you look at the promo pics for "Orientation" and "Everybody hates Hugo" you will see that he is holding his arm/shoulder in most of the shots. He is also clearly in pain in some of these pictures. Plus: Somebody bound his shoulder with a shoelace. I assume while they were still out on the remains of the raft Michael tried to staunch the bleeding with a piece of cloth and used a shoelace to wrap it around Sawyer's shoulder so that piece of cloth would keep in place. You can clearly see the shoelace on the pictures. Also, on the picture that shows Sawyer being punched by Ana-Lucia we see Sawyer's back and his shirt is not torn there (unlike the front). So either the bullet just scatched him or it is still stuck in his shoulder...

while watching that clip .... i noticed at the end when desmond asks, "are you him?" there see to be marks on the wall ....like someone was marking off days...like in prison or something...just behind his right shoulder you see a good shot of it at the end....and ideas???:confused:

Ooooh good catch!

I rewatched it and saw:

that the whole wall seems to be covered in them. That's a HECK of a lot of days down there! I wonder if that implies that Desmond has been forced to stay down there... is he counting down the number of days there- or counting towards the number of days left until his release??:confused:

Some thoughts on Desmond's comment in the clip:

Desmond's "Are you him" comment leads me to believe that he is waiting for someone to come.

Anyone else would be an intruder, and potentially "infected" - perhaps this is why he innoculates himself. Hmmm

Not sure if it should be spoiler fonted or not:

What if Locke was "sent" to the island to take over Desmond's job as the "hatch watcher"? It would partially explain why Locke has been so determined to explore the island. Plus, it would be kinda cool!

Remember Locke did see the monster which the french lady said was a security system. The underground bunker sure looks like a control for the security system. Maybe Desmond is amazed to see the guy who saw the security system and survived.
