View Full Version : Best Episode Ever!!
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 04:44 AM OH MY GOD!!! I thought the season two epi was the greatest episode of Lost, ever!!!
Previously, I'd though the season premiere was the greatest of all time, but I am sure everyone will agree that episode two was the GREATEST hour of tv, all time!!!!!!
waltisfuture 09-29-2005, 04:46 AM I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first episode was full of clues to look up and this one has more character development and subtle connections. What will the third one bring us. Island answers I hope.
jet3004 09-29-2005, 04:50 AM You gotta be kidding me.
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 04:53 AM I was always under the impression that for there to be character development there had to be some sort of development to the character.
waltisfuture 09-29-2005, 04:57 AM I had a feeling this episode would be misunderstood. I have no desire to argue my point. It's my point, now make yours............besides being facetious you've said nothing.
If you didn't see character development in Sawyer, I don't even know what to say to you.
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:00 AM Character development in Sawyer? I guess I have to admit there was a little layer added over him for wanting to protect Walt.
I guess my problem is that I feel that the flashbacks were trying to develop Michael, but it didn't change anything. We know he had Walt taken away before and all that.
But yeah, in thinking about it, I guess Sawyer did have a little development...shame it wasn't his flashbacks though.
EDIT: Although, it's totally based on opinion and there's obviously no right or wrong...OceanBlue...what makes you think this is the best episode ever? Beating the Pilot, Walkabout, Exodus, Dues Ex Machina....?
jet3004 09-29-2005, 05:00 AM "Best Episode Ever" for "Adrift" is more of an overstatement than saying "OJ was guilty."
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:01 AM Kool, so far everyone has agreed with me!!
Season 2, episode 2,is the greatest hour of television EVER!!! Arrrggghh they have me wanting so much more!!!!
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:03 AM Kool, so far everyone has agreed with me!!
Season 2, episode 2,is the greatest hour of television EVER!!!
Whoa..whoa...whoa.....what are you doing?
It was actually the second part to one whole episode. It wouldhave been taken better if aired back to back with the first episode.
I still like it *alot* and im having fun hunting down the meanings in some of the clues given to us (you had to really look on this episode) but it was still better as a second parter...actually tacked onto the first part.

Michaels development is hard to follow. We are giving so little, but one part stuck out to me, and I didn't catch what he said, and I think it is probably important.
When he meets Susan and baby Walt in the park he says, "Let him know it's from me...once in a while" Something like that, but I know I have it wrong. I think it's a clue to how the polar bear appeared on the island. Walt remembers his dad?
I'm guessing he feels a lot of guilt, and put the blame on Sawyer, but after he dreamed about Walt, he admitted it was his fault.
FoxyJack 09-29-2005, 05:05 AM I have yet to see the epsiode as im in the U.K but why was it or great or so bad?
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:07 AM Both sides are argued here FoxyJack...

I think Michaels development was that he stopped blaming other people. Sure it was pure selfishness on behalf of Walt's mother to do what she did, but in all reality he could and *would* have won that case. Rather or not he should have won that case is questionable, but he still just gave up. And he has probably been blaming other people for that the whole time.
This time, he cant subvert the blame anymore. I almost wonder if there was anything else there we are missing. I cant help but shake the feeling that Michael's accident was set up by Walt's mother. She is very manipulative.
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:14 AM I've watched it three times tonight so far... And will watch it several times over the next few days to scour for more clues.
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:17 AM Awesome! I love clues! What clues have you caught so far, OceanBlue?
Awesome! I love clues! What clues have you caught so far, OceanBlue?
I sense sarcasm here, but there were quite a bit of clues in this episode. Personally Im still stuck on looking at the Mural. But now the whole 108 and Dharma thing is taking this to a whole new level. This episode totally tipped the scale on behalf of religious connotations.
Or course im not sure rather or not to take OceanBlue seriously. I sense sarcasm coming from that side too :ohwell:
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:23 AM I was actually being sincere, but I think OceanBlue may be trying to stir up trouble.
Anyway, I thought the only clues for the emblem on the shark, Walt's stuffed polar bear (which may turn out to have no relevance), and the, obviously, the numbers countdown.
So I'm honestly just seeing if there were any clues besides that...?
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:29 AM KyleSBeaver is a troll. Ignore him.
(You can tell his trollish status from his name alone -- the "beaver" reference is vulger enough.)

So I'm honestly just seeing if there were any clues besides that...? Well it takes a bit of research, and its been talked about at length in other threads. The hatch or what I now consider a bunker is filled with the random clues strewn about the background. We are able to deduct some organization with religious beliefs/aspirations is behind whatever is going on with the hatch, and perhaps the island itself.
But like ive mentioned before this episode was really (in all sense of the word) part two of the first episode. I think if it was tacked to the first hour back to back no one would really have anything bad to say about the second half. But the fact they feel cheated. Personally I say now is the time to get your crackpot theories down, because I have a feeling more then a few of them will pan out!
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:31 AM Hmm...OceanBlue. I have no problem with differing opinions but if you resort to personal attacks, we got problems.
And my last name is Beaver. ;)
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:34 AM my last name is Beaver. ;)
Bull -- freaking -- crap.
You're a troll, and a hater. You're just here to stir up trouble.
waltisfuture 09-29-2005, 05:36 AM When Susan and Michael are in the lawyers office, she mentions he is almost being evicted from his apartment. This is after she paid for all his medical bills. Did she do that to have something to hold over him later?
She fed his ego with the line that he has rare talent as an artist. She made it seem like he couldn't be a dad and pursue his career of choice.
KyleSBeaver is a troll. Ignore him.
(You can tell his trollish status from his name alone -- the "beaver" reference is vulger enough.) Im not really sure what games you are trying to run around here, but he has been very polite and concise with his opinions. A "troll" would be someone deliberatly creating threads to start arguments, and then going out of their way to degrade everyone else with a conflicting opinion.
Im sure you are familiar with the concept.
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:37 AM Aaaaanyway...I was just wondering how people have to watch this over and over to get all the clues when all I spot is 2 or 3. Just wondering if I was missing something.
And surprised that some people are calling this the 'best' episode. I mean, over the Pilot, Walkabout and everything else? I just figure it's quite a claim. :)
Edited to add: Thanks for the kind words, Jenn.

I don' t think it's the best episode by a stretch, but I can't stand complainers. Last week it was the clues are coming too fast, this week its too slow. The people that watch this show range from young children to the elderly, with a variety of reasons they watch this show, and every episode can't please all of us. There are at least 2 threads dissing the episode, that I haven't ventured into at all, and I thought maybe this one could be about discussing the show.
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:41 AM Jenn, are you a hater too?
I called out "Kyle Beaver" on both -- his trollish, hateful comments, and also his last name, which is trollish toward women.
I have reported him. Maybe you, Jenn, are a Lost-hater too, which is a damn shame.
KyleSBeaver 09-29-2005, 05:45 AM I guess I just felt that this episode didn't have any meat on it. I guess it was really an appetizer to what is going to be an incredible show next week.
Locke and Kate stories working their way to the present, Sawyer and Michael finding Jin, reaching shore, and other people...
I know we're only gonna have like 20 eps of Lost this year, I just hate to see one that's mostly filler. (i.e. getting to the story) When getting to the story can be a story itself.

Sadly this thread was made to create this sort of drama. But you know ignore the boars and they move on to other prey  .
KyleSBeaver: Filler episodes usually end up having their merits. You are a buffy fan, remember how much you probably groaned over most of season 4? Looking back how much do you actually enjoy them now? Im sure alot more!
Filler episodes are annoying during initial air time, but better the second time around. I *very much disliked* Jack's first flash back episode. It wasnt bad writing or anything, it was just it seemed mostly pointless. But I know that once I see the rest of the show I will look back and go OHHHH so thats why they needed to show that.
Im hoping at least! :)
OceanBlue 09-29-2005, 05:54 AM Kyle -- go onto the DH site and sing their praises. We don't need you here, bashing out show.

*breaks own ignore rules*
uhohlisa 09-29-2005, 06:05 AM Is this a joke?
Lost is good, even when it's bad, but this was probably the worst episode so far. The flashbacks being where it lacked the most.
EllsBells1960 09-29-2005, 08:36 AM I'm not sure it was the 'best' episode, but it was far from the worst. I didn't consider it 'filler' either. It was interesting to see the timeline in relationship to "the hatch" and "the ocean". It was also interesting to see "the hatch" happenings from a different perspective. It just shows that there are always things going on in the background that we don't 'see'. The only thing I thought was lacking were the flashbacks - it would have been better as the Sawyer-centric episode it was intended to be. The Michael flashbacks didn't tell us a whole lot - except my daughter said she was almost glad that Walt's mom died.
MaggieRyanJr 09-29-2005, 09:00 AM This definitely ranks as one of my favorite episodes. I think a lot of it has to do with perspective. I am a new dad, and many of my friends have young children, and the episodes that focus on Michael's relationship with Walt really move me. Those scenes with the female lawyer made me want to scream, and the scene in the park where Michael simply cannot communicate with his son almost drove me to tears. The cliffhanger from last year drives me crazy, especially after our glimpse of Walt last week. Sure I am interested in the Hatch and all that, but right now the father seeking his son plotline trumps everything for me. And it looks like that is going to be drawn out deliciously...
elfdream 09-29-2005, 09:15 AM I wonder if the original poster didn't start this just to aggravate ME since I'm the once most vocal about these subject headers...
However it was not the best nor was it the worst. It was somewhere in between. Too much Sawyer...and I wonder how many threads will be started about Him not being the brigthest crayon in the box for taking the bullets out of the gun and losting them...but since I am apparently a classier person than the Sawyer and Locke fans...I won't do it. (even though I find him annoying to the extreme)
KyleSBeaver is NOT a troll nor a hater. The poster is just being honest..
Huskie 09-29-2005, 09:54 AM Wow! So much hate in one topic.
Is everyone done using that "report post" button?
Can I have my breakfast now?
So the topic starter created a topic on this being the "Greatest Episode Ever".
There is nothing wrong with that. It's their opinion just like the opinions of the ones that start "Worst Episode Ever!" .
You know what to expect in these types of topics. They get heated to boiling point faster than I can get a pot of water to do the same.
Now stop the name calling.

Now stop the name calling. Well a review of this persons posts would show you that he/she has resorted to telling people to *go to hell * and *just die*. Its not the heated debate that bothers me, god knows! It's people registering just to tell people to go to hell.
Anyways, just wanted to let you know why this person was reported and as I type this I wonder if it should be a Pm...
Oh wells thanks!
Noeland 09-30-2005, 01:19 AM Wow, you guys are crapping on what could have been a legit, and fun thread because you don't agree it's the best episode ever, or you think someone is a troll? That sucks. Wrap it up however you want to, troll, hater, whatever. I enjoyed the episode too, that doesn't mean I suck, you didn't like it, that doesn't mean you suck. It's called a "disagreement" and they can be had in a mature fashion. Honest. :)
Sawyers character development was in the fact that he saved someones life. The life a person who has ZERO respect for him. He did everything he could, and he saved Michael's life. And by his expression as Michael is waking up, I'd say he actually cares for the guy. That is a pretty big deal for Sawyer.
He also said "We're HOME. Not "We're back on the mudhole island!" or "Damn, we're back in hell." Or anything negative. I think he has changed a great deal.
I think Michael will see this, and once he's gotten past this initial emptiness and trauma, I thnk Sawyer will be the first person he asks to go with to get his son back.
OceanBlue 09-30-2005, 01:29 AM Amen. Finally a REAL fan of the show.

I agree Jenn.
And there were multiple reported posts within this one topic by many people which you would not have known about. I was responding to them all as one.
Add those to the ones reported in the "Worst Episode Ever" topic and you have an admin here drinking lots of coffee and biting his tongue. :)
You forgot the latest one from another topic which is a new favorite of mine,
Where are the moderators when we have two identical threads in the board?
(edit: They're too busy creating more sticky threads)
OceanBlue,
Are you done with the bashing?

I think for me, every episode I watch is my favorite at that moment because I'm just so excited watching it and I'm all hyped up. In retrospect certain episodes don't necessarily maintain the glow as time goes on, but I can certainly understand how someone would feel this is the best episode (for now). But you are right, my favorite epsodes so far are much better than this episode was, so maybe this episode was just so-so? It doesn't really matter I guess. I enjoyed the episode while I was watching it and I'm still awed by this show in general, but after reading some of the critiques, I can understand how some people were not impressed with this episode.
However it was not the best nor was it the worst. It was somewhere in between. thats exactly how I feel, every new episode is my "favorite" because I'm getting new info. Looking back I prefer some over others, but I have never been disappointed after an episode aired.

yeah, I hear that. I guess I'm just really shocked because this has been the first time I've been disappointed after an episode. I guess I didn't like turning back the clock because I just wanted to move forward so badly. Just felt like I knew what was going to happen and was tapping my foot.
Ah well. Next week will blow my mind.
