I loved this catch. Green eggs and ham
down in the hole:
love this dialog
"youre finally here"
"well, here I am"
it's almost seussian...
I never thought about what happened when Locke hit the buttons, and now I can't wait to find out.

but what happened on the island?
but what happened on the island? Maybe the point beyond executing that code was so that something *doesnt* happen on the island.

I agree with it being to cause something not to happen on the island. Hence the alarm as the countdown proceeded. Would you really need an alarm to make something happen? Plus, Desmond seemed rather urgent about entering the numbers.
Ok, I'm not crazy. I saw the logo on the fin and started damning myself for not having Tivo.

i was thinking that maybe when the alarm beeped it was really the ships radar and he had to reset the numbers to coincide with the ship coming back to the island (the one carrying walt and the others) as coordinates to get them back to the island maybe. dont know.

I think by entering the numbers..it stops a timer that Desmond set. It would appear a virus has killed many people and he is the sole survivor (remember his around the world trip?? Is he a typhoid Mary??)) if he is of sound mind..he can reset the timer..if he is dying or delusional...the timer goes down and then the hatch self destucts taking the virus with it...hence the urgency...thoughts...?

There is obvoiusly some sort of timer for something. No idea yet, but I would bet it deals with the sickness somehow.
And how much would life suck to live life haveing to type numbers on a computer ever 108 minutes. Man you would never get a full nights sleep.
