When the alarm started to go off signaling a security breach why did the numbers have to be entered on the old TRS-80? My guess is as a failsafe, if they did not enter the numbers maybe somthing along the lines of a self destruct would occur. Or not.
Also what if Locke really is the "one" afterall.

I thought the same thing. Every 108 "minutes" he has to let some one or something know he is still alive! When the timer reset to 108 I almost freaked!

Which makes me wonder if the failsafe automatically executes after 42 hours. Maybe the island is ground zero for a deadly virus and this would insure its destruction if there was no one to enter the numbers.

That is what I thought afterwards. Every 108 minutes (which doens't seem like a long time how woudl you get any sleep) he has to punch in the numbers. If you don't what a Nuke blows up the island (something to do with the large magnet)?

I didn't think about that. The magnetic nature of the island is very interessting. There are so many facets to the mystery of the island that it is getting very difficult keep track of all the variables.
