The Geodisic dome architecture and old mainframe computers are very similar to the one in the final episode of The Prisoner in which the Village ( island ) brain center was kept. As Patrick Mcgoohan made his way into this room the Beatles "All you need is love" was playing, As Jack made his way into the room Mama Cass's " Sing your own song was playing" (this song is actually a LOST track never released by her....interesting,maybe Hurly can hook up with her....Oh yeah she's dead..nevermind). Patrick Mcgoohan was looking for #1. Desmond asks Locke if he is the One. Also the underground Hatch set is very reminiscent of the underground Village complex.

I think he asks Locke, "Are you him?"

Tattoo,

As you can see by my name, I was also struck by the similarities between LOST and The Prisoner.

*They both take place on an Island. An Island that is uncharted, location unknown.
*In both cases, the people have been brought there, and it is not sure why, or by whom.
*Also, the security system "monster". In The Prisoner it was Rover.
*And, of course, the non-stop symbolism.
*In The Prisoner the logo we saw everywhere was the penny-farthing cycle. Here it is the 8 sided figure.
*Both shows used science or pseudo-science to explain everything, no paranormal stuff.
*The black/white connection--Chess in the Prisoner, backgammon in LOST.

I think we should post more similarities on this thread.

Also, didn't #6 try escaping on a raft several times. A couple of episodes were dedicated to descerning who the prisoners were and who the warders (others) were. In the end there was a nuclear device at the center of the Village. And many many more.

Well, here's hoping they'll all get gunned down in the end. ;)

Some of the similarities to the Prisoner were brought up last season. A few of us were joking about the big white ball. I never did see the end of the Prisoner series, so thanks on those added observations.

Pretty much everyone. It depends on who you think parallels number 6. (The final episode, remember?)

I miss that show. *gets out Prisoner DVDs*

Actually, in The Prisoner, we never found out whether it was an actual island or not - the maps from the first episode indicate mountains and a body of water surrounding the borders. In the Simpsons' takeoff of The Prisoner, the location was changed from "The Village" to "The Island" - perhaps that's what you're thinking of?

I wondered if anyone was going to connect the Lostaways plight with The Prisoner. Is the "shark" TPTB's version the amorphous white bouncing bubble? Enough about me... Discuss!

If the writers are going to be "inspired" by any prior series, it might as well be "The Prisoner," which was one of the finest television series in history. They could do a lot worse!

Actually, that was another similarity to LOST I was going to mention. It may be an island, it may not be. You are led to believe it is in The Prisoner, but you don't really know. Also, there were a lot of maps in the Village, but none that showed where it was in relation to anything else. Sound like the other maps we may have seen?

Oh, and Black Rock, I was actually thinking the black smoke/invisible monster was more like Rover (The Big White Balloon).

With all these similarities, is it possible the "prisoners" are there because they know too much? Too much about what?

I would love to see the thread from last season about it. Can anyone link me?

Oh, and on the Prisoner, the cast and crew weren't talking either. :lipsseal:

I don't think it was an actual thread, just small discussions that popped up in other threads.

Cast and crew don't talk to one another on LOST? :undecide:

I meant that they were refusing to spill the secrets.

Me too. I wanted to buy the DVDs, but it's pretty expensive. Over $50 I think.
