I'm disappointed that they chose to show so much of Mike's boring back story that we already knew...when there's the very interesting backstory of walt's special powers they have yet to reveal.

A few times it's been hinted at that Walt has some sort of psychic ability:
1-he wanted to get on the raft
2-he told Locke not to open the hatch
3-appearing to Shannon, don't press the button
4-the dead bird hitting the window from a flashback and Brian saying to Mike that things happen when Walt is around

When will we have more clues/story here? I'm so curious. Maybe Walt is the key to the whole thing??

Don't forget that they have made a point of showing Walt reading about a polar bear shortly before one shows up on the island two different times in season 1. Also, when he and Hurley were playing backgammon he always got the numbers he needed.

That is what I thought he said too, but apparently the actor that plays Walt said on Jimmy Kimmel that he said "Don't push the button, the button is bad."

Oh right, I had forgotten about that.

He also appeared to make the rain stop early on in season one.

He and Michael are under a piece of wreckage and Walt is complaining the Mike isn't looking for Vincent. Michael say "as soon as the rain stops i'll go looking for the dog" at that moment Walt gives him a look, and BAM rain stops.

Wouldn't the writers have known that we would think it a drag showing us something we already knew? Maybe we overlooked an aspect of his flashbacks. Maybe theres something in there that we never knew...

Is that why 'they' wanted him? What did they want the other kids (babies) for then?

I assumed this is why they wanted them...

I'm not sure if it's the same "they" that wanted Claire's baby or not or Danielle's for that matter.

To the person who complained about too much of Michael's boring backstory... you have to remember - this show rarely has ANYTHING in it that isn't of some sort of significance later -- that's half the fun of the show is finding the connections in later episodes. So maybe it was boring last night, but in another few episodes you'll be really glad you watched it, because it will explain stuff later....?? Unless they were just trying to have Michael remember how much he had promised Walt, and show why he feels so strongly compelled to rescue Walt... if that's the case, then that just sucks!!! :undecide:

In any case, Walt says, "Don't push the button. The button's bad." And Locke pushed a button in this last episode (though we don't know if it's "THE" button he pushed) so we'll have to see what happens, as we all know that Walt is generally right on the mark and you should listen to whatever he says! lol

But then again... he told Shannon backwards, which wouldn't have helped her warn anyone even if she could have.

Heres a link of what walt is saying played in reverse:

The backwards thing was kind of odd. Does anyone remember if when the whispers happen if you can tell what they are saying? Maybe the whispers are backwards speaking too? And this is showing us a piece of what the source of the whispers is?

(I hope my comment makes some sense-- LOL)

I think this whole episode was designed to say that Michael will do ANYTHING to get Walt back...even kill if need be. I think Michael is going to turn into a major character this season and will end up doing things he might regret later on. He can be kinda scary when he gets mad!! I mean, where do you suppose the kid got his gift from???

You know what else...which could be a part of this thread:
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=20228
but I haven't the patience to read it...
I think Walt knew "they" were looking for them, because at the end of season 1 when he tells Michael he burned the raft Michael tells Walt they don't have to go, and Walt replies that they have to leave -- inferring that he knows something bad is going to happen or that they are coming for him.

Any chance you have a link to what Malcolm David Kelley said? Only thing I'm finding is that he was on the show Sept 27 - I tried reading through the message board there - but gave up on that fast. Or, did anyone else see this show? I'm curious as to what he talked about.

Walt's no psychic.

He got on the raft and promptly got waltnapped. He didn't see that one coming, did he?

He said not to open the hatch (well, we'll assume he meant the hatch), and yet there's electricity, showers, ping pong, darts, FOOD, music, shelter, and a scared dude who thinks the world has been destroyed down there. Brilliant prediction, Walt!

I thought that he knew they had to leave because of what he saw when Locke touched him. Locke touches him, he freaks and says dont open the hatch and then he tells Michael he burnt the raft but that they have to go. He seemed way to happy to see a boat for a kid that knew "the others" were coming for him.

You're right! Had he known there were boxes of candy and treats he probably would have been the first one down LOL!

I don't have a link, but I watched Jimmy Kimmel that night and MDK said almost nothing about LOST.

Jimmy asked him if he was a ghost or something like that when he was speaking backwards words - MDK agreed he was a ghost or something like that. Jimmy then asked him what he said and MDK responded that he said "Don't press the button".

Mostly MDK talked about trying to be a typical kid in his non-typical world. He plays basketball and has a girlfriend at school - when he attends. When he's on set, he has a tutor.

That's about it.

I think Vincent's the one with the powers.

Thanks! I'm sure all the actors are warned about what they can and can't say regarding the storyline. But at least we have some clarification on the button.. But I wonder which button he's speaking of -- the keyboard key? or another button?

ETA - I also agree that Vincent has.. something.. powers - who knows.. but something

According to what was said in the 4-11 piece last week (noted by the admin in the board announcements), Walt said: "Push the button, no button is bad."

Agree with Vertical, his psychic powers are spotty at best ;)

From the Long Lost List:
WALT'S SPECIAL POWERS, POSSIBLE INCIDENCES OF
(PIL2)
Walt was sitting calmly on the beach looking at the pics of the polar bear in The Green Lantern, a polar bear (presumably already on the island according to Rousseau) then rushed the tranceiver troop. I don't recall recall Walt being upset right then. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

(TR)
Michael said he'd look for Vincent when it stopped raining - the raining instantly stopped. Walt was upset that dad wouldn't look right then.

(COWBOY)
He had a very lucky streak playing backgammon with Hurley, rolling what he needed three times in a row. Not outside the realm of chance, but in the context of his other incidents it is striking. He was not angry then, he was having a good time and was confident in his game.

(SPEC)
Looking at a photo of a bird in his schoolbook, he got upset that Susan Lloyd and Brian Porter, his parents, were not paying attention to him. The same bird pictured in the book hit the glass window and died a bloody death. It's unlikely Walt was trying to kill the bird or harm anyone, the bird was just coming to his unconcious mental "call".

(SPEC)
Locke told Walt to imagine the knife going where it needed to go, to focus and picture it in his head. Walt threw the knife perfectly. Old Jedi Mind Trick. Walt was not angry, he was focussed.
(SPEC)
Locke tells Michael that Walt should be allowed to "realize his potential"

(SPEC)
Walt again looks at the polar bear in the comic book, and gets mad at Michael for burning the book and sending him to the corner. Polar bear appears and attacks Walt.

(SPEC)
Walt's mother Susan Lloyd became suddenly ill. Speculation: It is possible that he wanted her to stay home with him, and unconciously wished her sick. There is no evidence for this. He may have been motivated by sadness, attachment, need, but not anger - he just wanted his mommy.

(EX1)
There's speculation that Walt caused the plane to go down (I'm not fond of the theory, but...)
----- ---- When Michael told Walt he was in Australia to bring him home, Walt said, "I'm not going anywhere with you." After the crash, they are in the metaphoric middle of nowhere.

(BTR)
Walt tells Locke he is the one that burnt the first raft but he is not the one that is making his dad sick. Locke goes to touch Walt's arm and the following scene insues:
Locke - You think because I know you burned the first raft that I think you made your dad sick? [Walt nods.] We're friends, Walt. I didn't tell on you before and I'm not going to tell on you now. [He puts his hand on Walt's wrist.] And I know you would never do anything to hurt your dad.

[Walt looks down at Locke's hand and pulls his arm away.]

Locke - What's the matter?

Walt - Don't open it.

Locke - What'd you say?

Walt - Don't open it, Mr. Locke. Don't open that thing.

Locke - What? What thing?

Walt - Just don't open it.
Can Walt forsee what will happen if the hatch is opened? Or does he sense something evil lurking below the surface?

(BTR)
In a later scene in Born To Run, Walt and Michael are talking about going on the new raft...
Michael - Yeah, yep. I'm going to be alright. Hey, don't worry. I'm going to be on my feet soon. We'll be sailing home before you can even. . .

Walt - I'm the one that burned the raft. I didn't want to leave and I thought I could stop you. Sorry. I'm really sorry, dad.

Michael - Hey, it's okay, man. We can stay here. You and me. We don't have to go.

Walt - Yes we do

Again, is Walt sensing doom if they do not leave? If he was "in tune" then he wasn't "in tune" while they were on the raft...he didn't sense the "others" coming for him?

(MOSMOF)
Is is possible Walt is sending an image of himself to Shannon when she is out looking for Vincent? Shannon runs off to search for Vincent and Sayid goes to help her. They see Vincent sitting ahead of them in the jungle and as they go to catch him, Vincent takes off and Sayid runs after him. Shannon tries to find Sayid and she trips. She then hears whisper all around her. Walt appears in front of her. Walt is dripping wet (he was not wet when pulled onto the boat), raises his hands to his lips and says, "Shhhh...", whispers something to her. Sayid appears and breaks the vision.

According to sound analysis provided by the TV Guide Channel show The 411, Walt says, "Push the button. No button is bad."

There are a couple missed there, and a couple you added. Here was my list:

Episode #1.02 Walt is reading a comic book and a story about the Green Lantern encountering a polar bear. Later, the group runs across a polar bear in the woods, which Sawyer shoots and kills.

Episode #1.03 Walt wants his dog back and his father promises to go find him as soon as it stops raining. Moments later, the rain stops.

Episode #1.11 Walt and Hurley are playing backgammon together. Walt conveniently rolls the appropriate numbers each time to move his pieces off the board and win the game.

Episode #1.14 While Locke is trying to teach Walt to throw a knife, Walt is unsuccessful. Locke tells Walt to picture his target in his mind’s eye. Walt’s next throw hits the mark accurately.

Episode #1.14 As Michael throws the plane tickets on the table, Walt tells him, “I’m not going anywhere with you.” Later, the plane wrecks leaving Walt stranded with Michael.

Episode #1.14 Walt needs help with his homework regarding Australian birds. After he is unable to get Susan’s or Brian’s attention for assistance, and Bird of Paradise flies directly into their picture window, smack dead.

Episode #1.14 Walt is again reading his polar bear book. Michael gets upset and throws the comic into the fire. Later in the episode, Walt is held captive by a raging polar bear on the island, from which Michael and Locke have to rescue him.

Episode #1.17 Again, we witness Walt getting the dice throws he needs to win at backgammon, and he indicated that Hurley now owes him $83,000.

Episode #1.22 Walt, feeling the touch of Locke, knew immediately about the “thing”, told Locke not to open it, and now wants to get off the island… true fear.

Episode #1.23 Walt was able to convince his very stubborn doggie, Vincent, to leave him and go back to Shannon.

Episode #1.24 During a bonding moment between Walt and Michael, Michael allows Walt to steer the boat. Moments later, the boat rams a log and the rudder is broken off.
