Definetely.

I took it to mean that the "eye of the island" that he was refereing to was the security system, or whatever it was that he saw in the jungle in the beginning of Season 1. It didn't kill him, though. So I took "I looked into the eye of the island" to mean that he looked at the security system and came to some sort of understanding or revelation.
