I'm not sure where to post this...

Did I read a quote recently from someone from the creative team saying something like, "if it really is an island"? Was that supposed to be tongue-in-cheek? Can someone provide me a link?

you are definitely on to something... there have been multiple references by producers/writers about "if its an island".

whenever faced with this kind of mystery, often times the most basic premise that has been assumed is wrong and that turns every other extrapolation upside/down.

it certainly isn't an island in the sense we think of island.

Also, the cable Sayid finds on the beach is not electrical. The insulation was broken and the wires were exposed. If there was power running through it, he would be Fry-id. My thought is that it's some sort of anchor. Or actually, an anchor and not some sort of one. It's late.

I've always had this thought that maybe they were just on a deserted part of a continent. This would prove the whole "Dark Continent" theory true I guess. Check out that post - very interesting.

I read an interview with one of TPTB and he was asked if it was an island, he answered "Is it an island, indeed! " then went on to tell a story about when they first started filming which really in fact had nothing to do with the question that was asked of him, so he really never did say yes or no

I heard about this quote, too. I just don't understand it. Do they mean this in a literal sense or as a metaphor?

So, again, the only reason we suspect it's an island is that the survivors assume they're on an island? Well, that and the fact that Danielle said the security system is protecting the island. But Danielle could be making a big assumption, as well, huh?

Or, it could be electrical and just not functioning anymore.

Well, it would have to be an island for all the ships (the pirate ship, french lady's ship, oceanic flight, drug flight, the 'others' ship...) to all end up there. But I say its an island that is soehow orbiting the planet (desmonds "race around the world") and along its trip through space (and time?) its pickiking thing up... like a polar bear, what sounds like dinosaurs, pirate ships, airliners...
and remember, "the current brought us (the raft) back to the island..." like it was caught in the draft of a slow moving large object...

That cable will come into play as either an anchor or power source or maybe a way for divers to follow to get into the underwater hatch that I think we all know exists. It could be a man made, self contained floating bio sphere without...um..the sphere...

The raft did get caught in the draft it seems...

i love the spec that its not an island. in one of the ep's, sawyer looks back from the boat, and says ' how could anyone not have discovered this' or something of the like. between that and the shark, which i really think is just a security device to ensure no one goes to far from the 'island' its totally possible this is not what we think it is.
