I wonder about Walt's power to make the polar bear appear.. which is an obvious connection to the comic book.
Earlier we also saw Walt studying birds (in his backstory ep), and a bird crashes into the window.
It's been suggested that Walt has the power to make things appear - or make things happen.
Since Season 2 ep 2 - we saw that Walt and Locke share a "smile" on the plane and I wonder if Walt is the one making Locke's legs work? I would have to re-watch the ep where Locke's legs temporarily don't work - to see what (if anything) was going on with Walt at the time. Since Walt and Locke seem to have a connection from the first season (where Michael gets all bent out of shape for Walt learning Backgammon etc).
I think Walt is actually got more powers than just making animals appear.
Anyone comment?

The bird is the only visual evidence we have, Brian also suggested that there was a plethora of other instances. On the island, Walt has been playing Backgammon and calling the dice he has rolled, as if he can will things a certain way. Strange because he was still taken by the 'others' and was pretty helpless in what we saw.
Walt also told Locke not to open the hatch after saying goodbye to him, but Locke has his own agenda. Shannon sees Walt as an apparition telling her not to press the button (it was said backwards), as if he can see into the future. Why was Walt so drawn to Locke? Walt did not want to go to L.A., could his will have been imposing on the plane? There is a reason they wanted 'the boy'....

My impression is that Walt's "powers" are overrated. Especially since he didn't see the kidnappers coming for him and nearly killing the rest of the raft crew. Sometimes things happen around him, but not always. The bird and the polar bear appeared to be attracted to him, but Vincent was the complete opposite, very inconsiderately deserting him in face the danger.
Much more evidence is needed to make firm conclusions, and I hope we get a true Walt episode to deal with these things. Particularly why the Others want him. The writers don't have to give all the answers at once, but a few clues would be nice. A crazy thought-- at the end of a Walt episode he could be faced with the choice of pushing the button: make the wrong decision and the world or island is destroyed.

maybe walt is the whole reason why they crashed to the island. maybe the others needed him and he's the whole reason they are there. but if that's wrong then why do the others want him anyway? how would they know he has "powers" or maybe they don't even know he has those powers. guess we'll just have to wait and see!
but i like to believe he has powers either way.

The connection about Walt willing the plane to crash could be possible. After all, for some reason he did light the raft that Micheal was building on fire, right?

I can't determine whether having the fate of the world in Walt's hands is extremely hilarious or extremely terrifying.

Whatever else Walt is, I can't believe he's suicidal. Burning the first raft could have been an act of self-preservation. Originally he was afraid of sharks when discussing the raft trip with Michael. Also he clearly didn't want to be eaten by the polar bear. Therefore I refuse to believe he deliberately made the plane crash.

He may not know how to Control is powers, that is why he didn't know the Others were coming. I think he has a great use of powers but does not know how to control them. Like the polar bear, if he did make the polar bear appear why would it be trying to kill him? If he could control his powers he would make the bird, bear ECT do what he wants....

I am not a believer that Walt made the Polar bear appear... I believe that the Polar Bears were already on the Island... Do to the Zoology testing that was going on... But I do have a belief that he can summon them to him... and that the reason that he is coming to Shannon is because he is remote veiwing to Vincent... and she has Vincent... ... Just a thought...

I agree that Walt doesnt have complete control over his powers yet. But his powers will probably develop with age, allowing his connection with animals to deepen.
