Have the writers or producers ever said writers ever said if the numbers may be derived from some fairly common everyday thing? I thought I heard that somewhere. Anyway, below are some fairly common things that maybe the numbers are derived from, or maybe not. Please add your items and ideas to it

I am sure in some of the mega-threads on this board there is some excellent theorizing on the the numbers, but to be honest, some of the threads are too gosh darn long to start reading in it's entirety at this point. Therefore when posting an item, if it is expounded upon on another thread, then please post a link along with the thread page number.

The point of this thread is not usurp those threads. Merely to provide a launch point for people like me who have not had the time to keep up with all the fine, but lengthy, numbers and theory threads from their beginnings. Plus to add any items you may feel like adding.

Here is my list. I admit some of these may appear ridiculous, but I figure put them ALL on the ole whiteboard, then erase where needed.

Digital Clock with Time and Date
Bible Passages
Weather data (temp, humidity, etc)
TV Channels
A bar code (ten digits, but not spaced the same way); book ISDN #
Patent # (not enough digits, but maybe the last numerals are a sub-patent#);
Ham or shortwave radio dial positions.
Longitude/latitude coordinates on a map.
Phone #.
Date and time on a digital clock.
Metric measurements of some sort.
A lucky (or is it, unlucky?) lottery ticket. ; )

PLEASE ADD YOUR IDEAS TO THIS LIST. AND LINK WITH THREAD PAGE# TO OTHER THREADS WHERE APPLICABLE. THANKS!!!

Honestly, the only number I've heard the writers say was really important was 23. They're surprised on all the attention the lotto numbers generated. Of course, they had to know the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42.

But originally, 23 was the only number the writers considered important. That might have changed now.

Executive Producer Damon Lindeloff said in a recent interview that the numbers have to do with the writings of Robert Anton Wilson, and the most significant number is 23.

In Wilson's books, which detail Illuminati conspiracy lore, the secret Illuminati organization develops a vast computer in the early 1980s that analyses things based on the I Ching, and it spits out the number "23" in a Pa Qua octagon. 23 is the I Ching number for stripping away false reality, and leaving only the "Dharma" remaining. The scientists interpreted this as meaning that some great catastrophe or "sickness" was about to happen.

The ultimate goal of these I Ching numbers and the Pa Qua is to figure out a way of converting earth into metal, generating a powerful magnetic field (remember Jack's keys being drawn to the metal wall? the airplane experiencing electromagnetic disturbance and crashing?) as a sustainable power source.

The Illuminati also have the power of sustaining life (Sarah's legs, Locke's legs, Jack's dad being alive, etc.).
