View Full Version : So where is Desmond going?
danl08 10-05-2005, 11:09 PM He knows he is on an island. He knows there is no place to go. He knows there is probably no escape (remember him scoffing about the raft last week).
So where is he running off to so fast exactly?
shera11 10-05-2005, 11:21 PM Good question. I was thinking there may be an emergency evacuation plan (a boat hidden somewhere), but then again, why wouldn't he have left sooner? BF Skinner working his theory!!!
Countrygirl 10-05-2005, 11:27 PM Well, if his hatch was 3 of 6, according to the Orientation film, might there be other hatches on the island? Maybe he will try to locate one, or even knows of one?
Lost_in_Michigan 10-05-2005, 11:29 PM For some reason I think he might know Alex. I don't know why, I just do. Or maybe there's another hatch.
WHATISIT? 10-05-2005, 11:30 PM I don't think Desmond even knows where the other stations are because he mentioned that Kyle guy was waiting for him and brought him down to the hatch and showed him the numbers.
I don't think he had time to explore the island and locate the other hatches.

i dont think the other hatches are on the same island. there is probably a number of different sites where there are hatches. like different experiment sites on different islands. just a thought :)
LostPack 10-05-2005, 11:34 PM I think he thinks that if they don't enter THE numbers in time, the place will self-destruct. So to avoid going boom - he runs. Not to escape the island, but to escape the explosion.
sickotriz 10-05-2005, 11:35 PM He's so obviously going to get in his boat and continue his RACE AROOOOUND THE WOORLD!
DUHH!
Haha, who knows... but he was better off in the hatch, working out, listening to music, and drinking protein shakes. Now he's gotta be on the lookout for smoke-monsters, polar bears, the Gorton's fisherman and the Others (woah, that would be a cool name for a rock band!), the crazy French chick with a rifle, Shaft, the Logoshark, and who knows what else. But... he IS a world class athlete brotha!
Gentlemen... place your bets! Everything's gonna change.
WHATISIT? 10-05-2005, 11:36 PM i dont think the other hatches are on the same island. there is probably a number of different sites where there are hatches. like different experiment sites on different islands. just a thought :)
I think the island is HUGE and the other sites (hatches) are there on the same island. They all do something different. If you watch the film again, he explains that there are 6 different ones. One controls the weather, the other is an ESP one, the last one he mentioned has something to do with Utopia, another psychology one and I can't remember the others.
Maybe Desmond doesn't know where he is going but thinks anywhere but that hatch is better than staying there with the computer being broken!
Gobi-1 10-05-2005, 11:51 PM psychology = human behavior = The Others and the sickness.
Walt = ESP
teriaki 10-05-2005, 11:56 PM One controls the weather
Sure explains why Locke was so good at predicting when it was going to rain in the first season. Remember, he could basically go 'three, two, one' and it would start raining. If he's in tune with the island (or rather, the experiments on the island) he would have an innate sense of when these things would happen.

Great stuff.
Desmond clearly said he was rushed right into the hatch home right after he crashed- however, this doesn't mean he's never explored the island. Unless I missed some bit of dialogue, he could have easily taken a break, risked sickness to get some fresh air. Maybe he does know more about the island or where some of the other groups are. I'm sure he'll pop up once in a while to give us some cryptic plot shockers like Danielle loves to do when she feels so inclined.

He didn't leave earlier because he believed he was saving the world by pressing the button. Now that he thinks the button doesn't work, he doesn't feel the need to stick around.
But I do wonder where he is going.....
Amber 10-06-2005, 12:22 AM There's another question that nobody asked Desmond. Saving the world from what? What does the button DOOOOOO? Where are you going? Oh, by the way, you might want to watch out for these people called the Others!!! *grrrr*
coupons 10-06-2005, 12:38 AM He is a sailor he wanted to get back to the sea.
He did though take a lot of stuff including the meds for the short time he thought there was left.
Michelle Friday 10-06-2005, 12:57 AM He didn't seem too interested in the lostaways, joining them or at least planning
for the rest of them to get out of there. He just takes off without wanting to
know any thing himself. He's been down there all that time, alone. Now he's
done and on his way. I think they all act like they are suffering from post
traumatic stress syndrome.

It would also explain when Michael promised Walt he would go look for Vincent when it stopped raining...and in an instant it stopped. (Season 1)
flora 10-06-2005, 01:27 AM Heck, after three years of having to press a button every 108 minutes, he just got the heck out of there as soon as the "computer expert" showed up. LOL
Did anyone notice the weird resemblance between Sayid and the "electronics expert" on the Dharma film?
Seriously- I agree with those who said he got the heck out of there in case something really bad happened because the computer got shot. (Ha ha). But also- there were several people in the hatch at that time. He got dragged down there by "Calvin" who subsequently died. He's been doing that all by himself for three years, never possibly getting more than 107 minutes sleep at a stretch. Other people showed up so his duty was over- he bailed! Heck, I would too!
easydoesit 10-06-2005, 01:55 AM He ran so he can take computer repair classes so he can fix the computer and save the world from who knows what because apparently he can't tell anyone what he's saving the world from.
Colonel Sanders 10-06-2005, 05:44 AM I bet in the future (Probably in another season or two) we see Desmond pop up again on the show. He'll be ragged looking and will have found other interesting things on the island......
