View Full Version : Why does Hurley say
HawkChas 10-06-2005, 01:19 AM to Locke to stop inputting the numbers into the computer, and then when Locke puts in 32 as the last number he says to go ahead and put it in? Does anyone think there is any significance to it?
Also in the first episode of the season when Shannon sees "Walt" and he apparently says "don't push the button, the button is bad", do you think it is because he knows that the whole thing is an experiment to test mind control?
LockeLove 10-06-2005, 01:22 AM Hurley's afraid of those numbers and he realizes what Locke is punching in. He doesn't want Locke to input them just in case something bad happens. That's my guess at least.
Charlie 10-06-2005, 01:22 AM How do you know that's what he said?
EDIT: I mean how do you know that's what Walt said?

He told him to go ahead because 32 was the wrong number, therefore it wasn't the string of unlucky numbers with which Hurley has had bad experiences.
pisceschick 10-06-2005, 01:24 AM I think Hurley figured that whatever happened if the number was entered wrong would be better than what would happen after entering the number right.
Oggie 10-06-2005, 01:25 AM This means that Locke is now subject to the Numbers curse too. And Jack also since he hit Execute.

Someone on the net played back Walt's whispers and recorded it and according to the playback he says the button is bad.
HawkChas 10-06-2005, 01:26 AM But then why doesn't Hurley say anything after Jack comes in and gives the right number?

Good question. Maybe he figures no one will listen to him. No one has yet, really.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! I hadn't thought of that! :whoa:
Amber 10-06-2005, 01:30 AM I don't think he wanted to make a big deal infront of everyone. He already did his ' No don't use those numbers! They're bad!' bit when they were opening the hatch. He doesn't want people to think he's insane.. is my bet.
Charlie 10-06-2005, 01:34 AM And Locke got Jack to use the Numbers. Locke and Hurley and Desmond would have been the only people who had used the Numbers (to our knowledge) and who are now (in theory) affected by the Numbers.
But Locke got Jack to hit execute... whether Locke knew what he was doing (which would mean the Numbers curse isn't really a curse, if Locke would put it on himself knowingly) or if Locke unintentionally led Jack to put it on himself... he did.

Here it is forward.

I've listened this about a dozen times and I what I hear is, " Press the button. No button is bad." I do not hear a contradiction in this but rather push the button....NOT to push the button is bad.
Charlie 10-06-2005, 01:47 AM I agree with you on the first half of that sound bite... It seems quite clearly to be "Press the button". not "don't"
Joe Schmoe 10-06-2005, 01:52 AM My guess, on why Hurley didn't stop Jack is because he isn't going to boss him around. Most of them look at Jack as the leader, and I bet Hurley does to. Maybe he considered Locke as the same level as him? Thus, try to stop Locke, but not try to stop Jack.
And yeah, when Locke said the final number was 32, Hurley stopped fighting it because it wasn't his cursed numbers anymore
