I have an editing studio, and I'm going to try to re-edit some of the weird jump cuts in an order that might make it not quite so dire as it seems now. There are at least two points where something has obviously been cut out, the most obvious one relating to not using the computer for... something.

I just think that the initial purpose of the film was more benevolent (the film, not the project), and that it was re-spliced to make it seem like the end of the world.

I predict that at some point they will find two little lengths of film that when spliced back into the film will totally alter what is believed about the countdown.

Good thinking! I am most satisfied with this theory. I just can't settle with the idea of the Orientation tape being just that. No tampering? no way.

Well if the film strip was released in 1980 then the people in it have aged about 25 years, if that footage was also from 1980. So I'm sure they would use a different actor because it would take some very nifty makeup to have him appear 25 years (or more) younger.

After looking at the picture I can buy it that the girl on the boat is the girl on the film, but the other one. The guy being that old man that said, we're gonna have to take the boy. I'm not convinced....yet. Downloading the video now and I'm wondering if we hear the guy talk. If I could hear him talk I could absolutly make or discount the connection.

So...with these Nazi experiment theories flying around, why is no one suggesting that this experiment-on-an-island-in-the-South-Pacific-idea didn't start with the Japanese in WWII? They were doing experiments in that region...primarily medical ones on the POWs they captured. But oh yes. Alvso Hasbo was on the Allied side in WWII, so maybe that doesn't work. But then again I think even though Al Hasbo looks like Leslie Neilsen there's no reason that "Hasbo" couldn't originally be from the "Far East" or have any connections there...Heck, even the U.S. government used the information that the Japanese scientists extracted from the POWs they tortured- even when they held the trials for Japanese war criminals all the doctors were acquitted without trial, totally let off the hook in case their discoveries would be of use to the Americans either as torture devices or medical insight.

Of this, the most valuable information to me is the fact that the jumps and cuts in the film may very well alter the message of the entire video. Reminds me of a very campy futuristic 70's movie with Sean Connery called "Zardoz" (which in the movie turned out to stand for "The Wizard of Oz).

Also, in the first quarter of the film I thought I caught something in a frame that was not part of the film. You know, like subliminal messages hiding in advertisements? A film has 24 frames per second, and I thought I briefly saw a face flashing over the screen... which, of course, could have been wishful thinking on my part... ?

Amber, I agree with you about the bearded man...the beard not only is scruffy and gross but really looks fake, I was going to ask someone with some photoshop know how to see if we could get a pic of him w/o the beard and 'stach.

Your idea that he could be the evil pirate that took Walt is great! That's the theory that I'm going with for for now..good job!

So when I was going throught the slides, I notes things that seemed off to me (some have already been mentioned)
1. The first couple of pics with the DeGroots in their "office". The office is crap, first of all they share and nothing looks like it's expensive at all, except for the grandfather clock in the corner. It just seemed odd and out of place to me. Anyone?

2. In one of the first classroom scenes there is a teacher with veils over her head and presumeably her face, who is she and why is she veiled?

3. Bearded man, already talked about him...I REALLY don't like him!

I think the explanation for the cheap looking office is that they were still just university students or whatever. It wasn't until Hanso (and Greto?) decided to bankroll everything that it ramped up. I'm sure that all the footage we saw of them at the university was just stuff fo them prior to Hanso's involvement

Oh sure, they were just at a University probably stuck in the cornor of a basement somewhere with all this leftover crappy shelving and furniture, what was odd to me was that there was a Grandfather clock there. Now I have never bought a grandfather clock before, but I'm sure that it equaled the cost of the rest of the stuff in that office.

I wasn't questioning why they were in a crappy office, I was questioning why that grandfather clock was also in that crappy office. Most likely nothing, but it was just something I listed as seeming odd to me.

I noticed the Oceanic Airlines logo on the shelf behind the girls head in the office and it makes me wonder is Oceanic is not anopther company owned by Hanso?

I was so just thinking the same thing. I have the Lost magazine on my desk, and held it up to the computer looking at the other pics. I'm glad you said that, cause I was thinking people will think I'm nuts if post that! :)
