I believe that Desmond was quarantined in the hatch for a reason. I think it is because of a sickness or the experiments that Calvin did. The reason I think this is because if you remember back to the beginning of the first episode of this season, we saw Desmond giving himself a shot in the arm of some sort of medicine.
During last nights episode when he thought all hope was lost and decided to leave, you would have thought he would of grabbed more food than he did. Well he actually grab a handful of those viles that he gave himself a shot with. So I am thinking those viles kept Desmond healthy or something. It seems like he needs to take them to stay alive.
That would make sense why the hatch had "Quarantined" written on it. So I am wondering if they didn't press the button, they would be infected with some sort of sickness, hence Desmond taking the medicine.
Just food for thought. Can't wait until next weeks episode.
Peace Out,

Mmm..I think the shots may be some sort of radiation preventative. I mean being around large magnets and possibly a permanent electromagnetic field, can't be safe eh?
The quarantine does not make sense though because there was a front door and there was no 'quarantine' terminology on that door. The only thing I can think is that maybe the hatch happens to lie in two seperate areas - the back end is close to the 'danger' zone while the front door is in a safe area.

I'd lean more towards this idea than to the idea of Desmond himself being quarantined. This is just a thought here, but... a quarantine is to protect OTHER people, isn't it? Like, you put up a sign on a door or something that says "Quarantine" so that others don't get infected by whatever is inside the quarantined area. But wasn't the word quarantine written on the INSIDE of the hatch? To me that would seem like the bad stuff is outside on the island and not in the hatch.
Just a thought.

They're placebo shots. They don't do anything, but Desmond thinks they do. It's all just a cruel experiment on Desmond.

A quarantine is to protect other people, but that usually means keeping the infected people in a confined area, hence the hatch. If it was a radiation preventative, I could understand why he took the shots in the hatch because of the magnatism, but why does he take them into the jungle.
From my understaning, CALVIN immediatley took Desmond to the hatch.
So I do think that Desmond was in that hatch b/c of something he has. I also do believe this is not the last of Desmond by a longshot.
Why would he take the medicine into the jungle if he didn't need them for some reason.
This makes the anticipation for next weeks episode even greater. Later
PeaceOut

Quarantine was on the inside of the hatch. But wasn't on the inside of the front door. Per the hatch, the illness was on the outside. But per the door, there's no 'illness' at all.

Vertical pointed out to me in another thread that the door we saw last night was an "inner door"... you'll notice steps just outside the door, meaning that there is another door that leads to the outside which we didn't see. I'm curious to find out now if "Quarantine" is written on that one. We'll see soon (or I'll have an aneurism).
Let me also just say that I'm not saying that there is or isn't an illness of some kind... I'm just saying that the "Desmond is the one that is ill" theory doesn't make any sense to me.
