I have some thoughts which I have not seen posted elsewere...

The Dharma Initiative could be like the ending of the movie "Cube (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0123755/)". It turned out to be this montrous ghost project started by someone in the government, that took on a life of its own and never had anyone singly responsible for it. Just individuals doing various small tasks associated with building this thing, and continuing without questioning it overall meaning. The concept of difusion of responsibility, human behavior in survival situations, and role of government were themes explored.

There is also a book called House of Stairs (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0140345809/103-2316428-7780601?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance)by William Sleator which involves kids being placed in this random environment filled with stairs, and levels, and lights, etc. They had no idea why or how they got there, but strange things started to happen, and there was a box in the middle that rewarded them with food. They heard "whispers" every so often, and each of them interpreted the whispers differntly depending on what haunted their past. Eventually it turned out to be an experiment on behavior and how reward mechanisms can ilicit behavior (very BF Skinner like).

I think that the 108 minute countdown will not trigger something bad... but ironically be something that (could) save them. If this was all setup long ago, and two people were meant to possibly be observed to see how they handle sleep deprovation, test faith vs scientific beleifs, etc... then I assume that if the execution was not pressed, then the "founders" of this experiment would need to know about it, and go investigate/ clean it up / save the subjects who may be in trouble. I predict the cast will test their own faith in this idea given in the orientation video, and eventualy sabotage their own salvation by destroying the distress beacon the coutndown would have triggered somehow.

I also feel that the people in the hatch were actual subjects, and were monitored by the people who started the Dharma project. I predict they were originally selected by their beleifs, and would be a study in contrasts::: Science vs nature / Man of God vs man of science, etc. Locke and Jack are already playing that role, and pushing the code and excution button. The way they handled the "belief" of what the island/button/etc meant to them would be the actual study going on. Human behavior, not the BS "other" things mentioned in the video. Desmond is obviously more faith based, but has questioned it. Perhaps new "subjects" are simply filling a long-failed/abandoned experiment and perpetuating it without actually being studied by anyone.

All psych experiments give some bogus intro on why they are there, and what they are to do... but mostly this is a red herring to throw them off that THEY are the ones actually being studied.

Anyway, just some rambling thoughts...

Please give me your feedback.
