I hope you like it. It's a crossover somewhat with Carnivale. (you should still be able to enjoy it even if you've never watched that show.) It mainly features Desmond and Kelvin. (Locke will make an appearance in later chapters.)

Printing it out to read on the train is a good idea. I save stories in text format on my computer and load them on my Pocket PC to read on the bus or at breaktime.

Good story, Jane--but it doesn't really jibe with the timeline. Kate/Jack/James/Hurley/Michael had left earlier in the day, BEFORE Sayid left on the boat. And by the next morning, when you have Jade going to do the button-pushing, Locke and Desmond had pulled off the "take over the hatch from Eko" plan.

Oh, never mind. I know this is fan fic, and you can play with the timeline all you want. But Desmond taking up with another woman, nice as she may be? I hope I'm comfy with that when the time comes.

Jane, I just read Chapter 4 it was great. I could just picture the whole thing in my head! The waterfall, the music, Desmonds voice, and best of all Desmond's expression when he sees Jade..........This is better than Season 3!!!

I like your use of British terminology. Maybe you could also use the British way of spelling, too. Not that it detracts, it doesn't at all, just think it would be cool and add more to the flavor. Dr. Jack. Now there's a puzzle. The man has a giant sized chip on his shoulder. When I met him in the stadium I could tell he needed a friend, but he seemed afraid to reach out to me. When we met again on the island it was the same way. I admit greeting him at gunpoint wasn't the friendliest thing to do, but it was totally understandable under the circumstances. Hopefully he'll be more open to friendship now that things aren't so urgent.When he caught me after I left the hatch I got the impression he had a lot to unburden himself of. I'd like to offer him my support if he'll take it.

I never watched Oz.(I've heard it was good though.) I watch Prison Break and that's where I get a lot of my prison ideas and prisoner character ideas from.

I don't know what I'd do in this situation, whether I were Jade or Desmond. There's no guarantees either will ever get off the Island. And I'm sure after years of prison, then the engagement thing, then the race--well, how can I say "be a monk" to the guy?

Wasn't sure how it was going to go over. Mel's really focused on every little detail, and that takes a long time to read. Thought it might come off as boring. So thanks for the compliments!

Gotta warn you all: though I'd like to write Chapter 3 right this minute, it's going to be awhile coming. The reason's kind of obvious: the main time frame of this story is now at the morning after Hurley's return with The Others' message and news of the J/J/K capture. So I've taken the tale as far as it can go without new material. That material will show up in
Eppy 4, when Desmond builds his device and the beach campers do whatever the heck they're gonna do in Eppy 4. With that info given me, I can build on the story. (After all, Desmond can't stay with Mel long--he's got a device to make!)
Naturally, I'll have Mel's recollections of past days on the Island, too. But I have to have something to build it around. For a couple of days after the eppy, I'll be busy posting on the boards, like everyone else. So it'll probably be the last weekend of the month before Chapter 3 goes up. I tried very hard to capture the characters of Desmond and James in this story. I wanted to be true to the people I saw and came to know watching the show. I also wanted to get away from romance aspects. Enough romance fan fic on the boards already! (Right, Jane? ;) )

Yes, it is intense. Mel's an intense person, in a very intense situation--as all the lostaways are. But she handles it differently, and that's what I wanted to get across. When you get her backstory, you'll see why she is the way she is better. And yes, there IS a lot of me in Mel! But it's not a complete duplication, I assure you.

This story's been inside me for a long time. But it was never the right time to let it out. For some reason, Eppy 1 triggered the "it's time" alarm in me. Maybe cuz the eppy was so intense itself!

I really hope my personal situation resolves itself. I can see Mel's story continuing thru the season. IF her writer doesn't check out first! :frown: But I wanted you folks to have as much as the inspiration can type out, while I can.

I don't think Kelvin lived, but your scenario was interesting. Once The Others had "processed" Kelvin, it makes sense that They'd send a former CIA spook to fetch Locke. Here was a man who knew how to "get" people his superiors wanted. Good call on that!

Not at all sure that a Desmond-Kelvin reunion would've been that civil. But if it were going to be, it'd be like you wrote it. Kelvin having enough liking for Desmond to let him go (despite Others' "rules" about that) does make some sense. Still, I remember Kelvin telling Des he'd needed a rube to keep pushing the button. So how deep a respect or liking Kelvin REALLY had for Desmond is questionable. As a former spook, he knew how to keep his distance from people. Part of the job.

Two observations, if you allow me. One, that you interchanged the chapter's numbers (Ch 9 <=> CH10) ;)

The other. Now that the action takes place in three different locations, you might want to put some limitation mark between the storylines. It it understandable, but my braincells are overheated :biggrin:

Sory that this conversation was up there. I actually posted this last night, but then the computer went all screwy and it never got posted. I think that it's possible for Kelvin to be that friendly. I think it was done very well. He finds himself surprised that he's so happy to see Desmond. They lived together, alone, for three years. Two observations, if you allow me. One, that you interchanged the chapter's numbers (Ch 9 <=> CH10) ;)

Ok, just so that you all know. I just finished the outline for the complete story so there is a direction and the story does have an ending. I think it will unfold a bit faster once I hit a few more chapters.

In Sayid's FBs, Kelvin kind of liked HIM. But he still kept it all business. Just knew how to be friendly, too. "Don't get involved," Benry instructed Goodwin and Ethan last week. Kelvin knows how to do that! He'll make a good Other! Nice choice of storyline, xgirl! :thumbup:

I'll post about it when I have a little more time. It was a good story. I didn't like Mel's attitude towards the Others for some reason. (I guess I like stories that are more "Other positive", for lack of a better way to describe it.) I personally don't think the others are all that bad. I can understand her fear though. (maybe I'm biased towards them because I RP Benry and Kelvin (as an other). )

Sory that this conversation was up there. I actually posted this last night, but then the computer went all screwy and it never got posted. I think that it's possible for Kelvin to be that friendly. I think it was done very well. He finds himself surprised that he's so happy to see Desmond. They lived together, alone, for three years. I wanted to let you know that just finished your story and I LOVED it! There were a few things that distracted me though. You switch back and forth between first person and third person, mainly in the conversation between Sawyer and Mel (which I really enjoyed. I could see him as if he were right in front of me!) ... loved the library bit. LOL And I'm not one for rehashing what's already been seen. Brief remarks on what's done is ok but I felt a lot of your story was retelling what we already knew. But you wrote it all wonderfully and that kept my attention. I really think you are a very fine writer. Have you thought of trying to persue that for a career? It's something that you could easily do from your home with your computer.

I loved the ending, too. Desmond with a lady crying on her shoulder. Too, wonderful!

That's the Desmond that I love! His imperfections make him even more perfect! I love seeing him so strong and confident, aided by his lady, who can hold her own around him. And don't worry about the compliments. Believe it or not, but they're a good thing. ;)
