A good bit of what I said about the knives is accurate. The rest I made up for the story. I learned what I know from different books I've read.

After he disappeared, Libby began to suspect the truth. To silence her, Charles had her committed to an insane asylum, and kept drugged. But she got out of there. Blackmailed Charles to get David's money back from him (he'd become executor of the estate when Libby went "mad"). But Charles lived in fear that she'd talk. . .so when he learned a certain flight was scheduled to be brought down at the Island, he made sure to set it up that Libby went to Australia--and that she'd be coming back to the USA on Flight 815. On the Island, he need not fear that she'd talk!

It's good to know that there's still a lot of story left to go. This one is so interesting! When Kate asked to come along, it felt like the Kate on Lost completely! Actually, writing my fan fic has been good theraphy for me. It's helped me flesh out things the way I'd like them to go or just have them go ... know what I mean? I was actually surprised I could write another chapter this soon. I thought I'd probably have to watch eppys 3-6 before I'd have enough material to work with. As you've noticed, I'm writing this story as Mel's viewpoint of what's happening--in the story we are watching on the show. I love others' fanfics, taking the characters and telling a different story. That approach just didn't work for me, personally. So I'm glad that my retelling the story we know (only from a different character's perspective) is working for you readers!

I hope to have a piece or two of Mel's backstory in the next couple of chapters. That really depends upon events on the show, though. Hopefully, next eppy's events will play out where there is time for Mel to be involved believably within the time frame. For instance, I'd like for her and Desmond to be able to talk before
he sets off with the Pearl Station Mission group.

I had a plethora of material (two seasons & two eppys!) to work with in the first two chapters. Chapter 3, set entirely in Day 70 (aka, Eppy 4 time), came much easier than I expected. If Eppy 5 can equally inspire, you may have Chapter 4 by this time next week. If not, probably not until after November 8. We'll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, there I go again, being long-winded! Again, :group: for reading my story and saying nice things about it!

I read your chapter 3rd, it is just as intense and great as the first two. You give such a true picture of Desmond! And I am very pleased to see how Mel lets in the warmth of our guy, slowly but surely :rolleyes: You only give him the chance and he can work miracles with people...

STH, I loved chapter 3! The only thing I had trouble with was the only way Mel could see the expressions on Desmond, Claire and Charlie's faces were if she was standing out by the water. But other than that, the story is really good! I'm looking forward to chp 4!

I think I've figured out a way for Desmond and Mel to talk before the events of the next eppy begin to transpire. Still need to see the eppy to get full context, though.

Why do you need the next episode for context? I make my own context when I write.( I don't mean that as a criticism because your story's great as it is and everyone has their own writing style.) I try to stay true to what we've seen but I love thinking up my own ideas for what we haven't seen yet. (as I said before, this is just me.)

I'll try to get the next chapter of mine up tomorrow.

My style is to write the story in context with the story as it is happening on the show. Which means that I create interactions with Mel and the lostaway characters, but within the timeline and storyline LOST is airing. Thus, I want to see Eppy 5 before writing Chapter 4, so what happens with Mel matches up with what happens in that Eppy. Chapter 3, like Eppy 4, was set entirely in Day 70; Chapter 4, like Eppy 5, will be set entirely in Day 71. So I want to know what happens in Day 71 before I write Mel's Day 71 around it. Hope that makes sense.

It makes sense. It's just a different writing style than mine. (I'd feel constrained if I tried to follow the episodes that closely and had to wait before writing each chapter)
I don't think I have a set "day" that mine takes place on. "Reunion" started several days after "Further instructions" and this story is going from there.

Oh, I've got it. Jane does the same thing--except she's also altered plot points. (Libby's still alive, contact with The Others is different, the lostaways still have Desmond's boat, etc.)

That's a good approach, too. I just chose to stick with the story as it's being told on TV. To each their own--as long as good fanfic comes out of it, yeah? :thumbsup:

I do enjoy writing for Kelvin. (I also play him in a RPG) He is a fascinating character. (I hope we get to see him again, at least in flashbacks.) I'm glad you like Desmond and Danielle together. (I'd like to see them interact on the show ) I'm a Des/ Penny shipper but I also like the idea of Des/ Danielle as a couple. I think they'd be good for each other.

Well, I'm not happy with the Paolo that TPTB have given us so far. I decided to give him more to do in my fic and keep with the negative attitude that it seems that character has. Thanks eveyone for the good wishes about my getting better. I don't know what I've caught but I'd loke to throw it back. I got the flu shot this year for the first time, had a mild reaction to it and now this. It feels like I've caught a virus in my layrinx and while I'm tired from it, I can't seem to sleep for more than an hour and a half straight ... even taking night-time cold medication that's supposed to help you sleep. I don't wake up coughing, I just wake up. :mad:

As for my own fanfic, I will get to it. I have three months, so I'm not rushing. I'm letting it write itself in my mind, first. Got the first part figured out.

It helps to know that I have a whole day on the Island between the lightning rod event and the moment Locke & Party leave for The Pearl. I'll be getting Sayid/Jin/Sun's return in there (UNLIKE TPTB), and Eko and the hut fire and all that. But there's a day to play with, too. I hope to get other characters involved. Bernard, Rose, Claire--characters we've seen little or none of during this six-eppy arc.

Of course, I'll start with Desmond and Mel talking about his "gift." She's gonna have some amazingly applicable reassurances to give him (hint, hint)!

You know, Whina is a perfect example of how a story can change. When I first introduced her I had no plans other than her helping around camp. And while my story hasn't changed, I found that she would be good with an extended character development. Where she'll go ... I don't know yet. ;)

Chapter 25: Well. I hope Sayid comes along on his own in Chapter 26 and Jack cools down. (Like, where the heck are they supposed to LOOK for Sayid, anyway? And if The Others recapture them, how is that gonna HELP Sayid?)

Of course, Ben might have to double back to the radio tower if someone spots Locke and Desmond heading for it! :eek:

Why the last name of "East," Jane? Was there a particular reason? Just curious.

STH, your story seems like your kind of therapy! You want Desmond to have a friend who can understand and be there for him, so you make one for him. :) And it must be pretty theraputic for Mel to be able to help Desmond the way that he helped her, huh? And don't you worry about jane's comment. She's insanely busy and probably just wanted to make sure that she was able to get ANY comment in to you as quickly as she could. Believe me, sistah, you're not wasting anyone's time, especially with this hiatus!
Xgirl, you have so much happening! Is it just a coincidence about the man in the prison and Ben having the same tumor? I assume they're not the same person since Desmond said the one in prison would be fine, but said something else about Ben. By the way, November's almost over. Did you write your 10,000 words?
Jane, I love the advice that Jade gave to Charlie. I hope that he and John can become friends again. And what does the Alzheimers have to do with all this, I wonder. And those whispers were too cool.

I'll probably only have 20,000 words by Dec. 1st but that's okay. I'll try for 50,000 again next year. (I've been doing a lot of writing and enjoying it. That's the important thing for me.)

The tumor thing is just a coincidence and a way to show Desmond's abilities. (There will be a lot more on that in future chapters)

I'll try to get the next chapters up this evening.
