I haven't been able to read much fan-fic lately, but I actually had a day off today. So I've spent the afternoon catching up. Thanks so much to all of you for giving me something fun to do! I've really enjoyed all of your writing!

Jane: Why do you do this to me? That was so exciting! I have to know what happens next! I'm glad about Rascal and Vincent, but what happens to Jade? But it's nice to see Desmond and Locke working together to help someone they care about. And it's so cool to have Sayid and Ben working together.

Lea: Desmond and Becky feel like such a natural couple. I love that right as she's getting kind of nervous about him staying with her and them being a couple, he says and does just the right thing to put her at ease. I know if he whispered against my neck I'd be comfortable with anything he asked! Heck, I got chills just reading it!

Well, I have a blast writing this couple. It's what I feel Des needs, and I try hard to make Becky real and believable. She is the only character that is completely my own, with the others I just need to be faithful to what we already know about them.

It really feels like you're setting us up for something? This is gonna sound weird, but I hadn't thought about it that way. I've been more focused on telling the LOST story from Mel's point of view, and getting around to telling Mel's backstory. Hummmm--guess I AM setting up Mel's getting involved with the group. . .that will certainly come into play in the next chapter. I wondered about that day, too. I think that it would be very interesting to read about. It's like, we have Sayid, Sun, and Jin on the other side of the island and then they're back! I know that the show probably made a good decision to to do that for the sake of time, but I like that you're planning on going into it.

The idea was that IF the Others were to attack Beach Camp, Mel would take the pill before they could nab her. You know that I follow the actual LOST storyline in my tale. So you know that, as of the end of Eppy 6, the Others have not attacked Beach Camp. (Heck, it doesn't seem to be on their immediate "things to do" list right now, anyway!) So Mel won't have THAT reason to use her "exit strategy."

Besides, I ended the chapter with Mel realizing that Desmond had "seen" that she had a suicide pill, and where she was keeping it. So in the next chapter, he will confront her about it. And she won't be able to avoid him. She doesn't even want to: she has to tell him what happened in the meeting! Also, she wants to talk to Desmond--remember her thinking that he was a comforting friend that Sun could use right now? MEL could use his friendship right now, too. . .and she's gonna get it!

The reason Sun is weeping isn't just because of the horror of having shot someone. She also remembers that Colleen had said that the Others weren't enemies, but if she shot her, they would be. Sun has taken this to heart; and, indeed, there is no reason why she shouldn't given the lostaways' history with the Others. And a retaliatory attack is certainly possible, based on what WE know so far of the Others. But then again, no such attack has happened. Unless it does on the show, it won't in my fanfic, either.

But none of the lostaways know that at this point of the storyline. What they do know (or think they know) is how I have to write things.

So as dark as things look, don't give up hope!

Chapter Seven should be up in the next week sometime. It's in my head and my typing fingers now. But it will take time to type up, and that ain't gonna happen today (I've yet to get to bed, and hope to be up in time to say "hi" to the new year, which I sure hope is better than this one has been!).

I thought I'd get caught up with the current LOST storyline by the end of Chapter Seven, but now it looks like I'll have to have a Chapter Eight. Seven needs to cover Mel and Desmond's next chat, AND the hut fire and Eko's disappearance. So Eight will have to deal with the next morning, up to the time Locke's group (including Desmond) leaves for The Pearl. Heck, I may even have her spot Locke and Sayid sneaking back for shovels, so she can get the news of Eko's death!

So there's much more to come before I have to stop and wait for future LOST eppys! Hope you'll keep on :reading:!!

Oh, STH, that was very exciting! And thank you for writing in that extra day. I think that you wrote Sayid as being pretty true to his character. He acknowledged losing the boat, but was also pretty matter-of-fact about how he didn't mean to. It's the kind of reaction I would expect of him - apologizing to the group, but not necessarily to Desmond. And I hope that Mel does well with Locke singling her out like that. Is she going to become a bigger part of the group now that she's sort of the mediator between the group and Desmond? I can't wait to see what Desmond says to her about that pill. That should be an interesting conversation!

You're too funny! I am enjoying the fic I'm getting time to read but am really enjoying writing this story. So yea, I guess it's not just you. ;)

As to Mel's involvement with the Inner Circle, it will, by necessity, be outside of the show's main action. Mel, after all, is not on the show! So she can't be in any scenes ON the show--unless she's observing it from afar. (You've seen me use that technique a lot in this fanfic!) So expect her to interact more with the main characters, but NOT be directly involved in the happenings you see in coming eppys!

Of course, the actions of characters who ARE involved in the TV storylines might be influenced by their encounters with her! We'll have to see if I can make that work out.

Rose is kind of an influence on me in this regard. We DO see her on the show--yet never really IN the story actions. For instance, she had little to do with the Claire kidnapping story. Yet her praying with Charlie helped him deal with it, lifting some of his false guilt issues. THAT played a part in how he dealt with her once she returned. Another good example: she visited the hatch. But mainly to help Hurley with the supply inventory. She never participated in the more dramatic events down there. Yet she did convince Hurley not to blow up the pantry. Which led to his decision to just hand out all the food. Which eased tensions around camp, and provided a happy time, even if it was only for one night.

That kind of thing is the kind of impact I'm hoping Mel will have on our characters. If we can get her past the suicide mode, that is. . . .:eek:

But I get a lot of distractions on the train. My best time is at lunch. There's a nice place outside that is like a stone wall that doubles for seating and at one end there's a higher portion that tapers down and I use it like a desk. It's off to the side so I get nearly no interruptions.

Well, Lea, they've already reached the level where he could tell her about his suicide attempt (in more detail than he did with Locke in LTDA), and she could tell him that the pill had been in her life for 12 years so far. So they're getting to the "fess point"!!

Of course, upcoming events on the show might preoccupy them both too much to have any quiet times together to share confessions. We'll just have to see how it goes.

The next couple chapters of Redemption are Locke centric. He is in an obstacle course of a sort created by Dharma and used now by the Others. There will also be another flashback to the commune.

Will Locke be finishing the course next chapter? Then we find out if he really WILL be set free? Right now, it does look like they see him as a particularly intelligent lab rat, and that's why they're putting him thru the maze. Am I close?

I think they know how intelligent Locke is. The course is more about testing his endurance and will to survive than his intelligence. I'm not sure if the course will finish in the next chapter or not. (there's a flashback to the commune that will take up much of chapter 21)

I finally got a chance to catch up on your fic. I thought it was really good. I'm curious about Mel and that pill though. Was she a CIA agent or a spy or something before the crash? (maybe it's the kind of books I read but that's what my mind immediately went to when she said she couldn't talk about it)
I'm also wondering if Desmond's ability allows him to sometimes know what people are thinking about, not just what is going to happen. (that's how it seemed to me)

It will probably be after Feb. 14 before the next chapter is out, cuz I follow the show's storyline, and

since February 7th's eppy seems to be all-Alcatraz, it will be February 14 (Desmond's eppy) before we are back on the beach, where Mel is! But it IS Desmond's eppy, and Mel and Desmond are friends. So there should be a lot of material to work with!

I thought that was funny too. The idea for that came from a RPG I'm in on LJ where we're playing it that Tom is gay and has feelings for Ben. (Ben is Bi in the game)

I'm probably in the minority but for some reason I don't like the idea of Desmond and Jade together. In my mind he should be with Penny. (at least as a serious thing. That's why I'm not going to have him get seriously involved with Athena in my fic.)

Well, the first one is short. It started out as a tribute to the returning Desmond in S3. The second has 7 chapters, so I can call it medium size. Now things got out of control I think :21: Don't really know how long it will be when it's done. I have not had a chance to thank you all either for the time and effort everybody has put into the Fan Fic. It has been a wonderful experience reading your ideas. As always I wonder how such a talented group of friends have come together. Des/Ian sure brings the best people together to support him. Keep up the wonderful work! I sure look forward to reading every word of your writings. When the day goes bad there is always the Fan Fic to get us thru...................Thank you everyone :group::clap:

I have as much fun writing my fics as you do reading them. Speaking of which, I am diligently working on the next chapter of Redemption and will try to have it up by the end of the week. (if not before)

I echo xgirl's sentiment. It's as much fun for me to write as for you all to read. It's been a great way to get through the hiatus and it's been great towards getting me back into writing again. I think I might just start my children's books next (and begin a new fic after the season ends). Thanks to all of you, too! You've been very helpful with my creative juices and I really appreciate all of you! :hug:

I'm already half way through Act13 as well :biggrin: I made the scheme of all the events now, and it is all coming down quickly from now on. I always had the outlines of the story in my head, but it is nice to have the order of the events ready and all figured out... :rolleyes:

I still haven't had time to read the previous 2 chps. But I will. I'm working hard at finishing mine. I think I'm going to just write until it's done and then spend the weekend typing it up and uploading it. You'll get several chps at once that way but then it's done.
