They sailed for 3 weeks and then wound up right back at the island. It was not the real boat, it was Smokie "pretending" to be the real boat to get all of the Others in one place so it could destroy them.

As for Kate (and Sawyer, too I'd guess), maybe she decided to finally do the right thing and turn herself in. The island does, after all, fix everyone ... eventually. ;)

Rose and Bernard: I thought about keeping them on the island but since the electromagnetic field was down and Locke was still walking, I took it that she was healed and no need to stay anymore.

I am going to do a sequel but not sure just when.

Folks, after tonight's eppy. . .I don't know how I'm going to deal with my fanfic. I'm really going to have to work thru this. As it is, I can't see how I can get Desmond into Mel's story, given what's happened with/to him in this eppy. And I'm committed to sticking to the show's storylines.

If I can't figure out a way, you may not see much Desmond in the next chapter. I love Des. But in his current state, it could drive Mel to that pill. So I may have to cameo the guy till I see more of him in future eppys. (And I have no idea how much or little we're gonna see of Des in future eppys.) Ironically, I may be able to work CHARLIE more into Mel's story after this. . . .

We'll just have to see.

What you're fogetting is that Desmond is following the route of the original race. They have check-in points and these are those. :biggrin: It may a bit longer but they need to check in to be sure their boat is ok and that they have ample supplies.

Unfortunately, honeypoppy, Des has quite a few of his OWN issues to overcome right now. I'm just hoping that, as the TV story unfolds this season, I can find an opportunity for Mel and Des to be there for each other again. Right now (as you could tell from this last chapter), I don't even see where they'll be spending time together. But I want them to--a strong platonic friendship is NEEDED in a Desmond fanfic, IMHO.

Face it, Lea. This Island ain't no paradise. And things only seem to be getting worse on the show (and it's that story I'm using in my fanfic). Yeah, it's pretty dark. I had a real struggle coming up with all the components of that backstory. It finally fell into place last night--and I immediately went to my blog to type it down! Didn't really WANT it to be what it was. But no one can be as dark and distance-putting as Mel without it being something terribly violating. And for a woman, there is NOTHING more terribly violating.

Even so, there is a hopeful sign in all this: though it was a good deed that triggered The Event (Mel helping Darlene), Mel did not stop wanting to help people. The testimony at the congress could not have been easy (clearly, The Event came up during her testimony, as the panelist's report stated). She tried to reach Darlene (she failed, but she tried). She pitched in at the alternative community, and became something of an enviromental activist. Wanting to help is just too much at Mel's core to have been eradicated--even by The Event!

Yes, and again, helping was too much at Mel's core for her to stop doing it. She was very much a help in the early days after the crash, before retreating to "invisibility." But, as we've seen all thru this story, when opportunities arose where she could help someone, Mel couldn't turn her back on them. She might rage at the beachie "sheeple," but when they were hurting, in need, there Mel was. She couldn't deny her own nature. Ironically, The Event brought what hurt and need felt like very personally to Mel; it actually helps her relate MORE to the people she's helping!

Eventually, I hope Mel sees this. I hope that her compassionate heart and caring actions WILL start the healing process in her. Still, it's been 12 years. Mel's done a lot of caring stuff in that time--and she's still terribly wounded. The healing process will be slow in coming. Still, we've seen how the Island speeds healing, now, haven't we? ;)

Well I've done something very stupid and I have no explanation for how it happened. I seem to have lost (no pun intended) the first three pages of chp 9. I hoped I'd left them at my office but now that I'm here and searched every where, I was wrong. I can't for the life of me figure out where or how this happened. So ... I have to try and remember what I had written. I only recall a very small portion of it so I don't know how long it's going to take to fix. I am so angry I can't tell you. I suppose you'll get around to telling us about Whinna. She seems to truly love Jack and their daughter. She was sincerely caring and helpful to the losties while they were there. Oh, and why the elaborate setup of Boris's "suicide"? Why'd the duo have to split up? What's going on here?

Desmond's visions of his (unknown to him) son made me :sob:!! I hope the two will get along when they finally meet!

That is absolutely true. I never expected Redemption to be as long as it's turning out to be. I'm just going with the muse and letting the story flow.
I'm working on chapter 23 now and hopefully will have part to post tomorrow. This chapter deals with Kelvin and Danielle and has a flashback that explains more about the Others and Alex's true parentage. (I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with this and the idea just came to me yesterday.)

Both of my fics take place mostly after that time period but in mine Des doesn't go into the future at all but he does have his precog abilities. I finally got to read your last chapter. It's hard for me to say but it's just ... I don't know ... not getting my sympathy. Your writing is stellar, I love your style and how well you know the Losties and convey that but I just can't buy your heroine's story. I don't feel she wants to commit suicide at all but wants the attention she gets from carrying that pill around ... even if most don't know about it, some do and she does. I have to be honest and tell you that if I knew her, I'd tell her to snap out of it. She has much more to live FOR than what has happened in her PAST. She cannot change her past but she CAN shape her here and now and she has a lot to be grateful for in the present. I know this may sound harsh and I don't want it to but I just can't get into her and her story or attitude. She's too dark and to me, for not a good enough reason. She's had a long time to deal and move on but I don't see her as wanting to and that irks me. But I'll keep reading because like I said, your style is fantastic and you truly have a good grip on the Losties. :clap:

I have just finished my latest Dessy centric fanfic. I wanted to write a story exploring what has been going through Desmonds mind since 'Flashes before your Eyes'. I must warn you that this story is very dark and angsty with a very tormented Desmond.

Jane--Chapter 14 was touching. I am looking forward to finding out how Whinna got brave enough to risk the sickness and escape Island #3. I suspect that you'll soon have Jack, Alex and Danielle meet up with John, Eko, and Boris and settle that plot line. Because I know you're going to want to skip over most of those 4 months before Des and Mac arrive. (Or else, we're gonna end up with 50 chapters again! Not that I mind, but I know how :eek: that is to you! :D)

As to your critique: I truly appreciate it. I was trying to tell Mel's story as completely as I could, without drawing it out. The thing that haunts Mel is less the rape than the tragic aftermaths for Buddy and Darlene. Though she's truly NOT responsible for them, their deaths weigh on her. She's not unlike Hurley in her view of all the bad luck just kept coming and coming--and she seems to be the common link.

I guess I didn't convey this well enough. Nor have I thought about how it wove thru her life after she joined the commune and got environmentally involved (aka, Years 5-12 after The Event). I'm gonna have to think about this, so that her continuing depression and death wish is more understandable. Thanks for pointing this out!

Right now, I think I'm waiting until after Eppy 12 to get into the next chapter.
It's Claire's eppy, and Desmond is going to be involved with her and Charlie more. I need to see Desmond's story arc before going much further with Mel. Even if they don't spend much time together, Mel feels connected to Des--she feels she can't consider the pill without telling him first, as she promised him. So what happens with him affects HER story.

Of course, if the muse strikes, and a good story can emerge before then, I'll write it. After all, James has come back, and he and Mel have the literary/outsider connection. So I might be able to do something with that. We'll see.

I have just finished my latest Dessy centric fanfic. I wanted to write a story exploring what has been going through Desmonds mind since 'Flashes before your Eyes'. I must warn you that this story is very dark and angsty with a very tormented Desmond.

Jane--Chapter 14 was touching. I am looking forward to finding out how Whinna got brave enough to risk the sickness and escape Island #3. I suspect that you'll soon have Jack, Alex and Danielle meet up with John, Eko, and Boris and settle that plot line. Because I know you're going to want to skip over most of those 4 months before Des and Mac arrive. (Or else, we're gonna end up with 50 chapters again! Not that I mind, but I know how :eek: that is to you! :D)

As to your critique: I truly appreciate it. I was trying to tell Mel's story as completely as I could, without drawing it out. The thing that haunts Mel is less the rape than the tragic aftermaths for Buddy and Darlene. Though she's truly NOT responsible for them, their deaths weigh on her. She's not unlike Hurley in her view of all the bad luck just kept coming and coming--and she seems to be the common link.

I guess I didn't convey this well enough. Nor have I thought about how it wove thru her life after she joined the commune and got environmentally involved (aka, Years 5-12 after The Event). I'm gonna have to think about this, so that her continuing depression and death wish is more understandable. Thanks for pointing this out!

Right now, I think I'm waiting until after Eppy 12 to get into the next chapter.
It's Claire's eppy, and Desmond is going to be involved with her and Charlie more. I need to see Desmond's story arc before going much further with Mel. Even if they don't spend much time together, Mel feels connected to Des--she feels she can't consider the pill without telling him first, as she promised him. So what happens with him affects HER story.

Of course, if the muse strikes, and a good story can emerge before then, I'll write it. After all, James has come back, and he and Mel have the literary/outsider connection. So I might be able to do something with that. We'll see.

That's how my knees look now. I'm so glad it's not summer and so I can keep them covered most of the time.

I wouldn't say brainwash so much as implant false memories and remove any current memories of Dharma and Alex. Unfortunately something didn't work exactly right or it was the passage of time and now she is remembering a few things. (Like who Alex is. She still doesn't remember who Ben is.)
Kelvin does have his work cut out for him but he has a plan.

Please DO read that chapter, xgirl! It includes a major piece of Mel's backstory. Brace yourself. Except for the flashback, it all takes place on the day Desmond saves Claire to save Charlie.

I am probably not going to write the next chapter until after Eppy 12 airs next week. At that point, we'll have tied together enough of the beach action so that I can involve Mel with events (Desmond's death flashes about Charlie, Hurley finds a van, James and Kate return, Kate/Sayid/Locke leave,
the Big Ping-Pong game is played, and the aftermath of that, and Claire's bird project.)

I really don't think I can really tell Mel's story till I can see what interactions she may be having with Desmond (if any), Charlie, James, Hurley, Locke or Sayid, Claire, and Sun. Some of these won't happen; I need to see the action to see where Mel could be involved in it.

Also, there's another part to Mel's backstory, and I need to see if it will fit into this chapter, or if it needs to wait.

But PLEASE read the current chapter! You need to catch up! (And there's a kewl little scene with Hurley in it that I think you'll like.)

LOL I began chpt 19 today on the train to work but don't think I'll finish it on the way home. I'll try to type some today at lunch time and at home tonight. It was my impression from the show (but just my take on it) that flashes of Charlie's death were the only ones Desmond was still having on the island. My theory is that they were possibly persisting because of something Desmond was doing, but otherwise, Desmond doesn't seem to be having any more flashes of anything else.

Take Locke's speech for example. He knew Locke would say it, Desmond didn't try to stop Locke from saying it, Locke said it and it was done. If Desmond had stopped Locke from saying the speech, maybe Locke would have made his speech the next day. Since saying a speech is no big deal, Desmond had no need to stop him and no course correction ensued.

I think he is only having flashes of Charlie dying now precisely because he keeps interfering. If they stop, that will be that for his flashes story arc (and Charlie will either live or die on his own). I can't see Desmond having these kinds of premonitions through the entire series. Which is the main reason why I don't like the idea of Charlie sacrificing himself for Claire or anyone else. For Charlie, that's not heroic, that's being a martyr, which is something he's always been because he doesn't think he deserves better. He values the lives of others over his own.

Now that I think about it, it's something he and Desmond have in common. It looks like Des has also been the cause of a lot of his own troubles and doesn't think enough of himself to realize he deserves better. Maybe they'll both grow through this.

Me, I'd have just found Jack unable to get through the tunnel blockage and have to go back. He could confront Whinna about it once home. Get the story from her. Thanks. I felt kind of sad writing it... Becky is not unsure of herself, she is bold and confident. But loving someone that much makes you uneasy... it feels like you're cheating life, that you have something that no one else has. Nothing can scare one more than happiness. There is a Santana song... it goes something like "Pain never makes me cry but happiness does..." It is hard to believe that it is happening to you :rolleyes:

OK this weekend I will get the next chapters up. Right now I'm finishing up chp 23. I think a few more and it'll be done.

Oh, I appreciate it grandly, believe me! :hug: I do try to remember it, and other mistakes I know I make often, but the story takes me in, and I can't focus on both at the same time :D I correct it afterwards, but some can slip my attention...

It's fascinating how I started a simple little story about relationships, and how it complicates itself on the way... New doors open behind every corner and it is hard not take advantage of that...

Ice is not too friendly, either. It was three years ago, I was walking all alone on a shopping center parking lot, when my right foot slipped out from under me. My ankle was dislocated, and my right fibula was broken in five places near my ankle, and my right tibia was split at the bottom. I had surgery, and now I am the proud owner of a six inch plate with eight screws, two pins in my tibia, and a semi-stiff ankle that swells up from time to time when I overdo it. Well, I can walk, run for short distances, ride a bicycle and drive a car. Except for a bout of celluitis from the surgery, I survived the entire ordeal.

In NYC I stepped off a curb into the snow and the foot that went into the street hit black ice and slid out away from me causing me to land my whole weight on the other knee. I still have a lump on that knee due to the accident. But you are really fortunate. That is, I think, the worst result from a misstep I've ever heard of! Thank goodness you're still able to do all that you do.
