Forgive me if this has it's on thread already.
I was just wondering if anyone has said specifically that the sickness is
radiation from the hatch.
Because of what Sayid said in this episode "The last place I saw something like this was Chernobyl"
[sp?]
anyway, I just realized that when he had made the chernobyl comment and I was wondering if that's supposed to be common knowledge on the show, or if it's just another theory.
(If it is a theory then it's right...i've decided)

It's never been stated what the sickness is exactly. I think in Exodus, Part 2, Danielle says what may be a side effect of it, when she says that one of her team members lost their arm. I'm not exactly sure, so if anyone would like to help me out, please do.
That's a good theory, though, Elliot.

Whatever the sickness is I'm almost positive that it is related to the incident referred to in the orientation film. I am really looking forward to finding out more about this incident.

Elliot_Smith, ya may wanna check out a thread I started in Spoiler Theories here (http://thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=22455) which builds on gutsdozer's "Chernobyl" theory which is very similar to yours...
i_love_dmjgmfna, this is what Danielle Rousseau said in Exo-II: "The Black Rock is not far. This is where it all began. Where my team got infected, where Montand lost his arm. We must move quickly."
It seems to imply that the infection resulted in loss of limb (gangrene, perhaps?)

So far all we've know for sure is that Danielle blames the sickness on the downfall of her group. But I don't recall her giving specific symptoms beyond behavior. (I'm sure someone will post that before I go and look for it :) ) From her conversation with Sayid its not clear to me if her whole group died as a mercy killing or some died from the sickness and she termed the others. But either way - she mentions the sickness. Desmond makes the other reference when he asks if anyone up on the island is sick - or has died. So as far as that part goes, and having the quarantine sign inside the hatch leading out, those were the only clues to anything. I'm leaving out Desmond's self-injections because we have no idea at all what thats for and there's nothing that says that has to do with the sickness..
Moving ahead to the Orientation film, when the mention was made of "the incident" I personally figured that was the first major link we had to the sickness. But it didn't tell us what happened. When Sayid mentioned Chernobyl - light bulbs went off in my underdeveloped brain and I took that to be a major clue that something happened that could possibly indicate what might be causing the sickness. At this point, I don't know if I could believe it was necessarily a nuclear accident or incident - but I do figure that whatever it (the incident) was had to be contained as the reactor was contained at Chernobyl and would likely be associated with whatever the sickness is. As far as it being common knowledge - I think Jack, Sayid and all of us know about it lol.
ETA- Jocko's post above mine describes Danielle - thanks Jocko :)

I know that Danielle tells Sayid to watch the others closely and says something about their eyes. Either she saw it in her teams' eyes or that's the first symptom/sign of the sickness which could mean craziness to redness to blankness....

Or.. maybe... one eye turns black and the other white? :)
I think she had a pretty scattered look in her eyes. And I realized why she's not with the Losties and all by herself - Sayid fixed her music box and now she has hours of unlimited entertainment. :lipsseal:

does somebody remember what claire said, when danielle appeared at the beach and kidnapped the baby?
somethink like "why did i scratch you?!?!" to danielle..
this must have happened when claire was kidnapped by ethan, but why did se scratch danielle? or am i wrong?
Hi All,
I'm new to this so forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but Danielle refers to one of her group members as losing an arm and I noticed that the man in the orientation video that Jack and Locke watched in the hatch has no use of his left arm. It appears to be an articifial limb. Just thought I'd mention this.
