View Full Version : Pairs of legs. . .but not normal
silveranswer 10-20-2005, 12:44 AM Did anyone else notice that some of the 'Others' pairs of legs seemed to walk by more than once?
Also- I counted 12 "others"- I really expected it to be 8 or 15.
bgmacaw 10-20-2005, 12:49 AM 4 + 8 = ?

Couldn't count fast enough. But the legs were the same. Twins?
silveranswer 10-20-2005, 01:04 AM I went back and rewatched that part a few times and there certainly seems to be repeated legs. I'm pretty sure the first 2 pairs repeat at the end right before the teddy-bear carrier. Screen caps could confirm?
It's weird because even the pattern of dirt on one pair of legs looked the same both time- most twins I know don't smear mud on their legs exactly the same way!
Living_for_the_weekend 10-20-2005, 01:20 AM I thought they looked the same towards the end.
kimbrchick 10-20-2005, 01:28 AM Yeah I noticed when I saw the same muddy legs walk by. I said to my husband, "hey didn't we see naked guy walk by already?" Then we see the same legs with the brown pants, then the person with the teddy bear and I'm not totally convinced that it was a child with the bear.
jbdean 10-20-2005, 01:30 AM I noticed the woman's legs that repeated immediately. Seems they replayed those frames as if they were more of the group. Who knows ... maybe they thought they'd filmed enough but in the editng room they found they needed more so they just repeated two of them. They not only were the same legs, but the stepping was exactly the same. But I don't think it has anything to do with the story. Just something done in the editing room.
MFerris 10-20-2005, 01:32 AM I liked how they shot them out of phase. They used a different frame rate, made them look like they weren't in the same time/space as Echo and Jin.
I have to review my tape but what's up with their clothes? They look homemade.
jbdean 10-20-2005, 01:34 AM I didn't notice them moving any differently than anyone else. Will have to rewatch that portion. But the clothes just looked worn out and tattered to me.
50Ft.Queenie 10-20-2005, 02:28 AM Hi. I'm new, and this is my first post. I've been a fan since day one though. Anyways...I too noticed that the legs seemed the same. I'm rather doubtful that it was any kind of lazy editing. I would think they know what kind of close scrutiny they're under, especially when this is the first time The Others are being seen on their territory. I'm very much in favor of the idea that there was some kind of time weirdness happening, remembering that Sawyer was once reading A Wrinkle in Time in season one. There's something going on with how/where/when The Others are perceived. Echo explains to Jin that The Others leave no tracks, but how can that really be? Perhaps they're simply not left in such a way that the survivors cannot see them. Ethan left tracks, didn't he? Also, given the way that Walt appeared to Shannon--that misty, backward-talking, apparition form that hearkins back to Twin Peaks--I'd definately say that time weirdness is at work. Still, given that the science folks were all freaky with the technology, does anyone think it's possible that there are some clones running around with The Others?

I also counted twelve and yes, it appeared to me that the two at the front of the line looked exactly like the two at the end of the line? Ran out of extras? Not enough crew members about? What?
sawyerkissme 10-20-2005, 06:57 AM I wondered if it was just the view that Jin had of the legs and then Ecko's view of the same as they passed in front of him... Not sure how the teddy bear gets involved but the one carrying it could be Alex, needs teddy because he didn't have mommy growing up and has issues? Aside from not leaving footprints. :)
chellly 10-20-2005, 07:07 AM Regarding the leg movement. It was very jumpy to me, very similar to the technique used in many scary movies...one that comes to mind because I just saw it was The Ring 2...when the little girl is climbing up the wall of the well.
It was incredibly creepy.
sawyerkissme 10-20-2005, 07:11 AM Oh, I said the same exact thing! The herky jerky movement very creepy!
uhohlisa 10-20-2005, 07:31 AM is it just me or has it seemed like there have been a lot more editing errors this season? they know how us lost obsessives are, of course we'll catch this stuff!
but who knows, they could be messing with our heads.
chellly 10-20-2005, 07:55 AM There have been theories that the errors are either intentional to mess with us, or they are there for a reason. They are not simple oversight.
The discussion started around Hurley's lottery ticket in EHH. Check it out. Some really great thoughts on here: http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=22691

I believe it's likely that one of them is Alex too, however, Alex is a she..:)
Oh, btw.. long time lurker, first time poster...

I came here this morning just to ask that very question! I was asking people in my office if the first two pairs of legs repeated and no one else had noticed. They were definitely the same. And there is no way that was an editing mistake.
dingbat 10-20-2005, 09:44 AM I thought they repeated legs too...but spouse suggested that we were just seeing the same types of people--he said they all looked like former students in tattered uniforms (skirts for girls, tattered pants for boys).
deankeaton7 10-20-2005, 09:53 AM someone said it before, but to repeat, the legs and their movement was weird. it reminded me of walt when he appeared to shannon, and also lockes mom and boone, when locke had the hallucination. Theres def. something para-psychic going on around here.
silveranswer 10-20-2005, 04:01 PM I noticed the woman's legs that repeated immediately. Seems they replayed those frames as if they were more of the group. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same footage. The first time the muddy woman's legs walked by one foot kicked a twig and the second time that didn't happen. I'm sure they just had the same people walk by multiple times, but the question is WHY?
Zombie clone children of the corn?
Rhorsley 10-20-2005, 04:42 PM Hello all. This was the 1st thing that struck me as funny. Not only were the legs repeated, they were superimposed on the jungle background. I work in TV and have done this myself before. All the other legs move through the jungle and interact with it, brush against ferns, make leaves sway...The 1st two pairs only affect the floor debris, which was probably part of the cut out. They were also at a slightly different frame rate as mentioned before. I don't think this necessarily means anything. It could be they wanted to lengthen the scene for dramatic effect or they could have used it as an example of how "they don't leave tracks."
Ohhh, just came to me while typing this - Maybe only the 1st two were meant to be others and the rest were captives? It's probably just an editing choice. Anyway if you check out the freeze frames you can just make out the tiniest of an outline in the cut. Whoever did this is a much better editor than I am.
lostinSLC 10-20-2005, 04:47 PM NOT naked legs. I don't think a skirt either. Shorts or cut-offs would be more like it.
And for those of you who don't know... when someone walks barefoot in the woods, your feet become acclimated to doing so, and the more carefully you walk, especially without shoes, the least likely you are to leave any tracks, because you have more control over your movement. Some of them are walking on their toes only, which goes along with this. And if you notice, they are not walking on dirt, but on plants and leaves. The VietCong used to do this in Vietnam so as not to leave trails for the soldiers. It is a technique commonly used in guerrilla warfare.
I didn't see children or young adult legs. How can you tell anyway? I saw legs with tattered and dirty clothes. Another thing... this was probably NOT all of the others, but more likely a reconnasaince group or hunting party (creepy if you think WHAT they were hunting)..
JDisLost 10-20-2005, 06:11 PM I also noticed the repeating legs, but I just assumed it was to make it look like more people were there. But after reading the rest of this thread I'm starting to wonder if there was more to it than that.
