As you've realised the explanation assumed for why only 14 of the 40 plus surviors is because those character have importance and pivitol roles.
Jack for example is a doctor. Now how many doctors do you know?
The same can go for characters such as Claire (when she was pregnant) Not all the women we know in life are pregnant.

This is actually a good way of presenting the series as new character can just be introducued with an explanation being that they were already part of the survivors but not focused on, such as Dr. artz.

The series could introduce new characters such as a priest or any other character at the drop of a hat.

It would be hard to present a new major character whose backstory is just "they didn't do anything interesting until now." That works for a bit part like Arzt or Ethan but, we're a season deep already, it wouldn't fly for a major player. Unless they had a really good reason for keeping very much in the background of the group that was central to their character.

A perfectly valid reason for someone to suddenly come to the forefront would be that suddenly *snapped out* of being shell shocked from the trauma of the crash.

I think the producers might like to do that:laughing: have a big name actor just show up and say, " I can't keep quiet anymore ...you people need to listen to me".:)

i love that idea, the original losties would be like "whaaaat" " we didn't even realise you guys had mouths and could speak"

You all should read the LOST novels. So far Faith, Dexter and George have all had their own adventures with the main cast on the periphery.

I have no idea if they will ever show up in the tv show although it would be pretty cool.

cool i was thinking about getting those books but i had no idea if they were any good or not
